I did not like Poe’s character. She came across as Very juvenile and immature. Her inner monologues made it VERY difficult to finish this book. It got to the point where I found myself skipping through here “scenes”. Also, the amount of unnecessary detail that’s added when she describes Any event is so annoying and unnecessary. Like, you don’t have to walk us through the process of doing a load of laundry (using laundry as an example). Just say you washed your clothes. Not, I opened the washer after separating the lights from the darks. Next I added fabric softener, detergent, and a splash of bleach. After turning it to gentle cycle, and closing the door etc etc etc………………….UGH! That was one of the main reason I would fast ford thru here parts. I guess that’s his co-writers “thing”, but for me it messed up the story. I returned the book to Audible, and decided to start his Infinite series. ...more

I don’t know if I’m over the zombie genre, or if this book was just that lacking. It seemed less about zombies, and more about the crazy doctor!! Half of the book was about him and the stupid “hootie”. Dr. Freeman went from being a normal guy, to snapping within a 24 hour period! I understand being out of it after losing his wife and kids, but damn!! He was F’d up the ENTIRE book!
And what was the deal w/Greg and Nick? Father and son where turning on each other every other chapter. Their explosive dynamic didn’t even contribute to the story (IMO). This book was more about the side stories than the actual zombies!
Also, there were continuity issues in the audiobook. Example: Glenn watched as his father and GLENN walked into the office. How could Glenn watch AND also be the one walking into the office?? There were Multiple instances like this that pulled me out of the book. ...more

VERY few zombies in this story, just the science behind how they were created. This should’ve been a part of a trilogy, or a novella (stand alone) after the fact. To start a series off with this was not a wise choice (IMO) as it makes me NOT want to go on to book 2. Plus Dr. Bri came across as weak and uncertain. I did not like her character at all!!...more

I was excited to start a new series where each book would be from the POV of various survivors. Unfortunately, this book did not make me want to continue to the next one. Since it was on Audible, the narrator had a few nuances that would pull me out of the story because it was so noticeable (at least to me). The main one was the way he read the word vehicle (pronounced like Veil-Co) which isn’t a problem in and of itself. HOWEVER, at one point the word was used 8-9 times in a single paragraph, and oh boy did it become annoying!! Not only that, but it was used Numerous times throughout the book, that it became a glaring problem as it it would pull me out of the story with his pronunciation. Plus the story just did hold me like I hoped it would. ...more
