Book Review ~ 📚

Title : Wither: A Zombie Novel
Author : Z C

I used the holiday to read the book. Post lunch I picked up the book thinking I would finish one chapter and go off to sleep! The first chapter took me off my feet and I landed back only when I completed all of them by evening. It was a 6-hour roller-coaster ride of emotions. The characters are still ringing in my head!

Z C's thrilling and violent zombie book Wither transports readers to a world overrun by the undead. The author examines the dark aspects of the apocalypse and the psychological toll it has on the protagonists through a story of survival and the fall of human civilisation.

The story revolves around a man in a makeshift home prepares to harm a restrained woman, seeking revenge for his own lost family. He justifies his actions by claiming a new family needs his care. The woman, battered and gagged, defiantly extends her middle finger to him, prompting a sinister laugh. Unfazed, the man reveals his twisted pleasure in harming women and children, suggesting he is about to inflict further harm.

"Wither" by Z C is a gripping and moody zombie novel that takes readers on a roller-coaster ride of emotions. The book delves into the characters' psychological reactions to the end of the world, adding depth to the narrative. Z C's attention to detail and expertise in survival techniques and fighting scenes add authenticity to the story. "Wither" contains brutal and violent sequences, making it unsuitable for sensitive readers. Overall, it is a compelling and thought-provoking read that will captivate fans of the zombie genre.

I did not enjoy this book. I don’t know if I’m over the zombie genre, or if this book was just that lacking. It seemed less about zombies, and more about the crazy doctor!! Half of the book was about him and the stupid “hootie”. Dr. Freeman went from being a normal guy, to snapping within a 24 hour period! I understand being out of it after losing his wife and kids, but damn!! He was F’d up the ENTIRE book!

And what was the deal w/Greg and Nick? Father and son where turning on each other every other chapter. Their explosive dynamic didn’t even contribute to the story (IMO). This book was more about the side stories than the actual zombies!

Also, there were continuity issues in the audiobook. Example: Glenn watched as his father and GLENN walked into the office. How could Glenn watch AND also be the one walking into the office?? There were Multiple instances like this that pulled me out of the book.

I connected to the characters in this books and was on a roller coaster of emotions rooting for some while hoping others would meet their eminent demise sooner rather than later. Wither is not in my typical genre, but was such a pleasant surprise sucking me in within the first 50 pages. I can’t want for more books from Z and C!
