В их словах не ощущается ни интонации, ни человеческого чувства. Главному герою легко сопереживать и вовлекаться в его жизнь в первой половине книги, но чем дальше, тем более пустым, скучным и бессмысленным он начинает ощущаться, позой без содержания, высокомерием без единого к тому повода, человеком, не умеющим ни любить, ни жить, ни понимать реальность мира и людей вокруг, знающим рабочий долг, но не личную ответственность. Хотя если верить послесловию, задумывалось всё совершенно иначе, и измельчавшими должны были казаться все остальные по сравнению с ним. Но мне не удаётся это так увидеть. К концу произведения во мне не осталось ничего, кроме безразличия....more

Она делала выводы быстро и честно перед самой собой, но сделав их, не требовала и не ожидала немедленного согласия окружающих, продолжала смотреть на людей с ясной непредубежденностью первого взгляда, так что каждое впечатление от них -- отдельный слой, не зависящий от предыдущих и не отменяющий их, не обещающий ничего в будущем, но от того не менее настоящий.
