If you're looking for Civil War history and history of big name politicians, this is not the book for you. There's plenty of other books out there where you can learn about the battle on top of Lookout Mountain.
This book tells the stories of the "inconsequential" people. The everyday people. Both good and bad. These are the kinds of stories that the author found by digging through the archives at the local library and talking to people who have lived there their whole lives. You won't find monuments for these people. Not even a tomb stone for some. But the author, a Chattanooga local, believes that these stories paint a more accurate picture of the people of Chattanooga today than the stories of politians of yesteryear ever could.
I love local histories like this and wish they got more love in the world of history books. Not everything is defined by war or the deeds of governors.

I just picked a random book on my absurdly long TBR that I thought would be a good audiobook listen for my commute. I didn't realize just how invested I'd get. I have been home from my commute for a few hours, but I just couldn't stop listening. It's midnight and I'm baking cookies, but I needed to do something with my hands while I listened to the end.

It'd have worked if it had been intentionally campy, but it felt like it was taking itself too seriously. Also, the dialogue is repetitive, which Quincy does point out when she pleads with her boyfriend to stop asking her if everything is okay, so I'll let that slide. I still rolled my eyes a lot, though....more
