No not the cussing but every other sentence had Lex-the-cowboy saying 'ya' instead of 'you'. I realize he was a cowboy and they talk differently than I but it was VERY distracting to say the least. OK, moving on: I can't imagine being in love with someone and leaving them for three YEARS! Alright, I can, but waiting that long for someone to tell their son, "I'm gay & in love with your bestie" is a bit much for me. I'm all for adding, 'so like it or lump it, dude'. (Maybe not in those words but I'd say something with the sentiment in mind and I'd give you a Look so you'd know 'I really wanna say that verbatim but you're my son so I'll cut you some slack but do. NOT. push. me.')
I didn't feel this was a tearjerker so much as a frustration, hence the two stars only. The highlighted portions of the book tell me that this is a reread (I remembered most of it) and that the sex was phenomenal. Still is!

Thank you Hanukkah Harlot for this book! I liked it. More about Marek and his journey through life than about hockey, it was still a wonderful read. (Thank you Hanukkah Harlot for this book! I liked it. More about Marek and his journey through life than about hockey, it was still a wonderful read. (I'm newish to hockey but even I wonder about a hockey enforcer getting all zen!) I got a bit tired of Marek running himself down but that was his personality before yogi Shey entered his life. Marek was very relatable with all his imperfections but trying to do right anyway....more

Elias was a bastard then and years later, Elias and Zane were classmates (diff. grades) at Jackson Academy and meet again at the multi-class reunion. Elias was a bastard then and years later, he's an older bastard- with a growing concious. Nevertheless, he's still likable. (It's the ex-wife that gets the negative reviews and boy-howdy, she deserves it.) Zane teaches Elias how to be a better human/father/boyfriend while somehow doing this MASSIVE artwork in E's building. I totally recomend this book, especially if being emotional is your 'Thing' as Elias and his daughter are on the autism spectrum.
(My only question is: was Zoe named with Zane in mind? The Z's intrigue me!)...more
I really loved this book: the inclusion of what felt like the ENTIRE town of Fairfield in CO was a bit much for this tired brain. (I have friends, too, but they don't need to come out n' play at the same moment in time complete with backstory and who's bangin' who, etc. Yes, mystery is a 'thing'!) By the same token I was extremely glad for the backstory of Sam and what brought him to CO. I was also impressed with Niko, his story and the merger of these two sweet guys- AFTER the intro of baby Maisy so Niko always knew he was second to the child! (After his biological parents reaction, the way Sam acted to Maisy was very important to this reader.) I didn't read the first book but I look forward to reading about future pairings....more

The review: I very much liked this story even with the underlying abuse. I could see this playing out like a stage production that I really wanted to end on a high note and luckily it did. I understand Levi's reason for quitting but I still don't see it as a sin. (What he did there was a sin but not necessarily his job as a bartender. It was a JOB and I don't see ANY job as sinful.) So the family irked the beejeezus outta me! As for the whole "healing Jaime" topic, YAY! I'm glad there was someone TO heal and help Jaime after all the crap laid at his doorstep as a child. I give this story a 4.5* for the depth of each MC and the wonderful ending....more

I was a photographer, she's a model so my interest in her was on a more 'professional' level. I didn't know the person and why she did some things and not others. According to Brooke, she modelled & acted when she chose and her mother wasn't a harpy. Good to know. Her mother was a drunk and an alcoholic who gave her daughter fits. As a child of an alcoholic one would think she'd be a teetotaler but you'd be wrong. Brooke probably thinks she can handle it-- her mother undoubtedly thought that as well as she went to & thru rehab but never admitted anything was wrong. This was a good interesting read but ironic as hell....more
