Brutal story telling with the most amazing prose. Reminds me of what's going on in today's politics.

Example: Heroine plans to meet gang leader to get info she had convinced him to provide. Knowing he may bring help even though she told him to come alone, heroine happens upon a former Army sergeant who happens to be at hotel in the area. Heroine pays Army sergeant $1000 to risk her life by rollerblading by the bad guy and grabbing the briefcase with the info. Army sergeant does just that, then kicks bad guy with her roller blade while spinning the briefcase around and knocking out his accomplice. Army sergeant then skates into hotel and heroine chains the door closed behind them to keep the bad guys out of the hotel. And this is just one example of the ridiculous story line that Koontz has penned. Maybe if you like really unbelievable plots then you will like this. But couple this type of excitement with long sentences that use big words and your have a book that is simply unreadable....more

Each sibling is given their own date in private, and the novel follows each siblings throughout their lives as they live (or don't) with the knowledge they hold hovering over them.
Would the impending date loom over your entire life and cause you to leave in fear? Would you seek to live as full a life as you could, no matter how little or long you had? Or would you simply ignore the warning and live your life as you see fit?
With characters who each have their own distinct voice and narrative, The Immortalists is an excellent novel exploring the possibility of a known death in a fun and exciting way. There was never a dull moment as the narrative raced towards the death dates of the protagonists.
Intense and thought-provoking. This book is well-written and will suck you in to the lives of the Gold family. Highly recommend....more

We all have deep rooted memories of home. Some, we want to forget, some we wish to never let go and others that make us run far away as soon as we get the chance.
That about sums it up with BONFIRE. A debut novel written by Krysten Ritter, aka actress from such well known shows like Netflix original series, Marvel's Jessica Jones, Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23, AMC’s Breaking Bad. Krysten’s work on film includes Big Eyes, Listen Up Philip, Life Happens, Confessions of a Shopaholic and She’s Out of My League.
So, basically, she can do it all. But, this was more than a great thriller for me. There was a hauntingly familiar tone to her writing. The nuance, style and the subtle way the plot emerges which made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. She reminded me deeply of my favorite author. One that I have been missing. Gillian Flynn. The plot, successful lawyer Abby Williams, returns home to dreadful place where she was once bullied daily, to investigate Optimal Plastics, the town's wealthiest company that has ties to the town's water.
Memories stir and Abby can't help but feel there's a connection to her old friend Kaycee, who Abby vividly witness get sick 10 years ago. But, when all of her other friends get sick, they confessed to faking it. But, why did Kaycee go missing and not take anything of value? What really happened to her? How close is Optimal Plastics to the people in town? And is Abby ready to go back to "The Game"?
Too many secrets. People in power with money verses a small town in need is bound to uncover things Abby doesn't really want to see. Thanks to NetGalley and Crown Publishing for the ARC. I can't wait for this to come out on November 7th, 2017. Maybe Krysten will star in her own novel?...more

Which is a shame as I enjoyed Strawser's Almost MLots of characters and tons of things going on, but there wasn't much I connected with on this book. Which is a shame as I enjoyed Strawser's Almost Missed You tremendously. For me, I think it came down to the fact I kept seeing Big Little Lies on each page and felt like it was sort of a copycat.
The characters needed to be fleshed out more. The dialogue was flat. I wanted to be drawn into their world and I just felt uninvited. The surprise ending was good. But, I kinda figured that one out too. Thanks to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the ARC. I really appreciated it....more
What happens when the world you've built, based on a sandcastle of lies, starts to crumble around you? When your past, and the truth, surface and you What happens when the world you've built, based on a sandcastle of lies, starts to crumble around you? When your past, and the truth, surface and you can't stop it? What happens when you begin to question what you know, what you thought you knew?
Josie has a built life on lies, a life where she left behind, for the most part, her family. But thanks to an ambitious podcaster, that past has reared up and come back to haunt her. The podcast reporter is investigating the murder of Josie's father, looking into the guilt or innocence of the person who was convicted. This of course upsets Josie and her remaining family members. Josie returns home to be with them and ends up digging into what really happened ten years ago, while also dealing with the fallout of her lies, and the death of her mother.
Often, when I thought knew what was going to happen, I was wrong. The story was a mix of twists and predictability, mystery and family drama, and the pacing of the novel was slow, then fast. The book was slow to reel me in; I had a hard time warming up to Josie. There were times when I was completely exasperated with her, wanted to smack her, times I just didn't understand her behavior, and times I felt for her. I can't imagine going through what she did....more

I'm always looking for a good story that is exciting without being overly gory in details of murdering the victim. Another priority for me is limited bad language. This book was great on both accounts. A story that kept me guessing and interested. The characters were believable. I can usually pick out the murderer when reading or watching a mystery but I didn't on this one. Enjoy discovering new authors and Teresa Driscoll's mystery is worth the read.
A tale of intrigue and pain, Driscoll weaves a narrative from the perspective of three individuals tied to a missing teenager. From these intertwined individual connections, one becomes sensitive to how a single crime impacts so many families and people. Definitely worth checking out....more

Lead character Alice Vega When Lee Childs writes, “Opening this book is like arming a bomb--the suspense is relentless and the payoff is spectacular. Lead character Alice Vega is sensational--I want to see lots more of her.” I knew I was in for something spectacular. My pulse raced from page one. Two sisters go missing strip mall parking lot in a small Pennsylvania town. And their mother hires Alice Vega, a female tough as nails bounty hunter. I loved this book for that part alone.
The police are little to no help which left me suspicious from the very start. Then enters Max Caplan a disgraced former cop who is willing to help Alice. The two merge into one hell of a rescue team. I kept hearing the line from the movie TAKEN "I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you." This book was one hell of a fun ride. It had well developed characters, great prose and a plot with an unexpected ending....more

Is it her drinking or her unbalanced nature that has made the wonderful Richard take up with another?
I really liked the main character, I liked her from the beginning of the book, all the way to the last page. The authors did such a fantastic job with character development, there was such a wide cast of characters, all whom came with traits that I both loved and hated. i had thought that I knew exactly how this book was going to end, and I was pretty disappointed that I had it figured out, and with just the turn of the page they kept it from becoming predictable. Which was so fantastic, as I read a lot of Domestic Thrillers/Suspense. So it was nice to read a book that kept me on my toes.
