Wow, I honestly don’t even know where to begin with this book. I experienced many raw emotions while reading…Intrigue, happiness, and sadness ruling among them.
In Amy Harmon’s new release readers are introduced to Benny Lament. Benny is a song writer making a name for himself amongst some of the greats. In an era where music was truly part of the soul of our nation, seemingly connecting everyone all while the daily living habits was set up to keep us separated. Yes, it’s true, the America of the 1960’s was full of pivotal life altering moments. This story captures that important time frame all while ensnaring you in an unforgettable love story. This is The Song Book of Benny Lament.
Esther Mine is a singer, a tiny woman with a big voice. She spots Benny in the club she performs at and decides to reach out to him after learning he’s highly connected in the music industry. It takes some convincing but eventually Benny agrees to help Esther along with her bandmates that includes her three brothers. Song writing comes naturally to Benny, after all it’s something he’s been doing since he was a child. However, it’s the witty banter between he and Esther that enhances their songs adding an edge that quickly wins over their fans.
The undeniable chemistry between these two also raises speculation causing people to wonder if the duo are actually a couple. Now if you recall, I previously stated that this takes place in the 60’s so you can imagine the possible backlash of a white man loving a black woman. As their songs begin to get radio air play their excitement of making it big grows. Yet, one song in particular that is performed live stirs up a bit of controversy.
“That song is going to bring the devil to our doorstep” – Gloria Mine
Ultimately, Benny teaming up with Esther garners the attention of someone very powerful. Someone that wants to keep secrets buried in the past. Not backing down, Benny and Esther release a song that tells of that past, causing dead bones to rise in the process.
My Thoughts Harmon’s writing is utterly captivating in The Song Book of Benny Lament. It was as if I was there, I felt very present in each scene of this book with its many ups and downs. A fly on the wall in a sense, capturing each moment. I especially enjoyed how Harmon wove radio, music, family and romance alongside a plethora of importantly known voices, faces and places in that era. Readers will be swept away in time with The Song Book of Benny Lament. Make no doubt about it, this book will have you all in your feelings. Do I recommend you read this book? ABSOLUTELY! ...more
4 STAR Review for Derailed by Dominique Thomas Spoiler Free
Reviewers Note: Dear reader, when you start reading my review it might feel like I’m giving 4 STAR Review for Derailed by Dominique Thomas Spoiler Free
Reviewers Note: Dear reader, when you start reading my review it might feel like I’m giving away the story a bit, but I promise I barely scratch the surface. Read on! The book opens to a family meeting and trust me the tension can be felt wafting off the page. When the youngest son of Angie Lacoste, Malik comes home to her and his two older brothers to let them know that his life is about to change.
This does not go over so well with his family. You see, each boy has a path that they are to take. School and what they study is especially important to the Lacoste legacy.
Therefore, Malik dropping the bomb that his equally young girlfriend is pregnant and that he will be taking time off from school is not ideal. The reactions he receives are similar to what you expect from a mother and older siblings that want only the best for their loved one. After hearing open rebukes a sullen Malik and his girlfriend leave.
The events that follow young Malik’s revelation to his family take this book into a whole other direction. One too painfully familiar in the African American community as well as our country.
"I have to get close to the Lacoste family.” -Jaylah
Jaylah Cole is an anchor woman for Baymoor Falls news station HLN20. She’s recently been recruited by her boss to infiltrate the Lacoste family under the guise of a friend to get information that can help the police.
Jaylah is told that if she does this and is successful it will advance her career. Believing that the Lacoste family runs a major drug organization she happily agrees to help.
Oshun “King” Lacoste is charmed by Jaylah. Yes, she’s beautiful and that grabs his attention. However, he also sees another side of Jaylah. You see the thing is Oshun can spot a fake and he notices certain things about Jaylah that does not sit well with him.
Needless to say, he keeps her around anyway much to the dismay of some in his circle. Keeping Jaylah around actually causes bigger problems for both of them. Some problems you see coming and some you won’t expect.
My Thoughts No one is going to like Jaylah once they start reading her character. Or who knows, you might initially like her, but I know I didn’t. She’s a complete mess and not in a good way so just bare with her and give it some time.
Everyone will Love King (Oshun) he’s THAT guy! Together, Jaylah and Oshun are definitely fire! Both characters grab your attention for vastly different reasons. First of all, Jaylah will have you wanting to choke the life out of her…and well Oshun will have you just wanting. PERIOD! LOL!
The writing is good but please be advised that it is also emotional due to the painful experiences of both its main characters. This is a romance story however it is PACKED with real-life issues.
Delicate real-life issues. Derailed also focuses on a viewpoint within our community that we all occasionally run in to. Ignorance mixed with denial and a form of self-hate. My recommendation? READ THE BOOK!
TRIGGER WARNING: A Rape is discussed though not retold in vivid detail.
Additional things the reader should know if you’re a Dominique Thomas reader than you’re already familiar with some of the Lacoste men from The Promise series.
Each man has an appearance. If you’ve not read The Promise series you might want to do so after this. Honestly, after reading this book I am craaaaving a book for Deen Lacoste as well as another couple that shall remain nameless…for now at least....more
SPOILER-FREE: A Total 5 STARS My Heart can’t take this read!!
I LOVED IT!! Last Comes Love is an incredible swoon-worthy best friends to lovers romanceSPOILER-FREE: A Total 5 STARS My Heart can’t take this read!!
I LOVED IT!! Last Comes Love is an incredible swoon-worthy best friends to lovers romance that completely wrecked me. Admittedly, I wasn’t ready for where this book took me, even with the words ‘A Bittersweet Love Story’ on the cover. Even now, days later as I write this I still feel emotionally shipwrecked. Why? Why, would Brookelyn Mosley do this to ME? That was my last thought right before I fell asleep early Saturday morning; after starting the book late Friday evening because I. COULD. NOT. PUT. IT. DOWN.
“Then I… I guess what I really want is to be happy beyond measure, without conditions, and to feel worthy of being in receipt of something so special, knowing it was always meant for me.” – Rylee Daniels
In Last Comes Love you meet Rylee Daniels, a beautiful, driven, hardworking millennial making moves as a Trader on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. She’s good at making money multiply, it’s her passion and it shines through as you read. After a failed engagement Rylee is just trying to move forward, using her 31st birthday as a stepping stone to her future. It’s at her Birthday dinner with her three closest friends that fate seemingly intercedes. In a subtle move, a reminder if you will, with the mere mention of a pact made between friends her path in life is about to change course.
“Hey Best Friend, Yeah That’s My Best Friend” – Lex (my train of thought EVERY time Lennox is on the scene) *closes eyes and Slow GRINS in delight*
Lennox Walker is a local Sports Reporter, he’s also a successfully very tall and handsome retired NBA player that just so happens to be best friends with Rylee. When readers get to his POV we are able to note just how much of a player Lennox still is well after his ball player retirement *rolls eyes in annoyance*. He made mega millions while balling in the NBA, so when he shows up and shows out by gifting Rylee the best presents on her birthday, it really comes as no surprise to her girlfriends Nadia and Parker. When the pact he and Rylee made is mentioned that evening Lennox doesn’t put too much stock in it. However, later on, as you read there is another conversation he has with a close male friend that does have him rethinking things and asking himself, “What if?” Ultimately, it spurs him to take his friendship with Rylee in a whole different direction.
“As innocent as the conversation seemed on the surface, he’d finally tilled the soil of their friendship and planted the seed of their inevitable future” -Inner Monologue of Lenny
As Lenny and Rylee start a new journey neither are prepared As Lenny and Rylee start a new journey neither are prepared for what’s ahead. The readers are just as blindsided as their story comes to a head. And then suddenly we’re all left to allow our minds to just process… For real, for real, I’m still processing.
What I loved about this book was the closeness and love both Rylee and Lennox had with one another. What saddened me was that it took them years to admit it and face it head-on. In doing so, the story showcased how precious time gained and time lost can be. There are situations in this book that may turn off some readers; readers that prefer their books to be completed in a pretty little nicely wrapped bow. If that’s you? MOVE ON TO THE NEXT BOOK. This is a ‘Bittersweet Love Story’. Overall, the writing was good, the characters were relatable and the storyline pulled me in. I wouldn’t dare add or take anything away from it. Great job Brookelyn Mosley!
Series: No. At least not that I know of… Recommendation: All Romance Lovers that enjoy a true to life story should read this!! Plot/Storyline: Best friends to lovers bittersweet romance! Writing: GOOD! Had me alllllll up in my feelings. ...more

Not even sure how to adequately put in to words exactly how much I loved Coast. It was an emotional yet fulfilling ride to experience as these two characters find themselves in love and together once again. Time has passed between the end of Kick Push and the start of Coast. When the book begins we learn both Josh and Becca have been living separate lives for some time now. In spite of that their lives still manage to collide.
Joshua Warden
“I met a girl with raven dark hair and eyes the color of emeralds. I came into her life with an insecure past, and she came into mine with a tortured one. My future was set, and hers was uncertain, but at the time, it didn’t matter.
When I think about Josh... I think loving father, I think four wheels spinning on concrete, I think giver, I think kisses on porch steps.
"She made me feel weightless, feel free, feel airborne."
I love when Josh would reflect on his love for Becca because his description held it with a comparison to his other love which is skate boarding. Josh was always a provider; I mean being a single dad solidified that. However in Coast his finances are in a much different place and how he handled that just made me love him even more.
Becca Owens
“If you want to learn what someone fears losing, watch what they photograph.” -Unknown
When I think about Becca... I think photography, I think cordy, I think bucket list, I think school paper, I think views of emeralds. M Y B E C C A There's this poignant scene where Becca describes what MY means to her and it literally stole my breath away. I just....GAH. It was beyond words. You gotta read it.
The writing The story is told from dual points of view, both Becca and Josh. Honestly, the strong writing hand of Jay McLean exceeded my expectations which is not something that occurs for me often. I could easily say she is my fave New Adult romance author. As I'm convinced her writing is tailored to my taste buds and that's not something you find often as an avid reader. Coast is raw, heartfelt, has great displays of character growth, it also delves into the trenches with internal conflicts faced by the two main characters that will surely touch the hearts of readers.
Coast is a five star read that I absolutely LOVED! I loved it because she told me a story I could not guess, nothing in it felt predictable. I loved it because there were bits that seemed poetic. I loved it because it was intense, whether the tone was happy or sad. I loved it because I was truly invested in these characters.
Series: Yes, this is book 2 in The Kick Push series. Recommendation: Yes, I recommend this book series to all New Adult Romance lovers. Plot/Storyline: Strong, will hold your attention and tug at your heart Writing: Strong, raw and beautiful Steam Factor: 1-10 I rate Coast a solid 7, Medium heat. Definitely has moments that sizzle.
McLean is vicious with a pen. Her writing just gets better and better. Look, I know this review might look long but trust me when I say I'm holding back to not give anything away. One would easily start this book thinking Lucas is going to be one of those sweet best friend to lover reads. And it is...well..kind of. The thing is, Lucas and Lois have a love story that sort of goes against the grain. Their path is waaaaay different than your average teen romance novel. You see, it's at the precise moment that you think the story is going to go right that it actually goes left; giving readers so much more than they bargained for. At least, I know it was that way for me.
When Lois is eleven her dad lands a job as the site foreman working for Tom Preston. She instantly gains a whole new family as the Preston's welcome her with open arms. However, there is one Preston that she grows to love in a way that differs from the rest. ❤️ Lucas. The thing is I think it would be more accurate if I stated that Lois has a special relationship with EACH Preston to a certain degree. Only Lucas has her heart in every way possible and it's totally obvious.
Now, you know I gotta keep it real and let you know that there is nothing, I repeat NOTHING easy about their love story. When you expect things to progress between them you hit a sharp quick turn. This turn suddenly lands both Lois and Lucas in a somewhat awkward position as best friends. As a reader there are things you think you know but until the real details unfold you're kinda just going with the flow. Only you'll hit another sharp twist that will have you literally just sitting there holding your breath. I'm talking devastation, Jay McLean wrecked me.
My Sweet- The Preston's are BACK! Tom, Kathy and all their kids Lucy Lucas Leo Logan Lincoln Liam and Lachlan My Sour- He whom shall not be named.
My Thoughts In Lucas Jay McLean boldly yet somehow still cautiously touches on a darkness that so many face daily. It's considered a silent epidemic and McLean is strategic on how she unpacks the story. Careful not to swallow readers whole without allowing them to chew on a few things first. I'd like to also add that according to a recent article I read this horrific act/s occurs every NINE seconds in America.
The Writing Listen, I am a true fan I've been down since her first book and I'm not going anywhere. Her growth as a writer has been remarkable thus far. Lucas was a G R E A T read. It's witty, heartfelt and emotionally charged with high doses of character charm. She doesn't just write, she develops and presents these characters in a way that draws you in like a moth to a flame. I can honestly say that Lucas has taken the number one spot for me out of alllll of McLean's leading male heroes. He is officially my number one! It's crazy, this guy really just stuck to me like glue. I loved being in his head, receiving his thoughts, those candid moments of honesty, I admired his maturity, read on about his leadership, love love loved his loyalty, and enjoyed his sense of humor. I can also see this book topping bestsellers listings as the author has penned some of her best writing yet within the pages of Lucas.
What readers should know The book holds strong dark undertones as certain characters reach and in some cases possess a brokenness that will bring tears to your eyes. At one point while reading I was rendered speechless... If you're a true fan you've most likely met Lucas in More Than Forever(Lucy & Cam's book)
To buy or Not to Buy? BUY! Go 1click! Series: Yes. This is the first book in a new series as far as I know. Plot/Storyline: This book was nothing I expected it to be yet everything I needed it to be. Mainly due to the path the lead characters take. Writing: Beautiful, Sweet, Heartbreaking, Emotional...STRONG! Steam Factor: High, on a scale from 1-10 I say 8.
Now go forth and read, then come tell us what you thought about it! If only just a few words, reviews are important to authors...more

"He was the epitome of the perfect calm, right before the most dangerous storm." -Bailey
I knew there was something about Nate DeLuca that I liked. In Combative we are somewhat introduced to him. In Redemptive we get to piece together some things we could of never known with the little bit of breadcrumbs McLean gave us initially in book 1.
“So you are afraid of me?” he asked. “Yes. No. Maybe.” The corners of his mouth lifted and he bit down on his bottom lip, trying to cover his smile. But he was too late, I'd already succumbed to the full effect of it.
Bailey becomes and I almost hate to say this but she falls prey to circumstances. I'm not sure what she could of done to prevent it or change it. Things just happened so freaking fast at first that even the reader won't expect it.
"I feel your pain. I live your fear." -Bailey
Just flip me upside down and turn me all around why don't you.
What readers should know Combative is a mystery in theme, in plot and even in its characters. It has the reader constantly questioning things. Who, what, where, when, why and how. Total mystery. Total intrigue. Redemptive is more of a mind catcher...meaning the story unfolds and you just get CAUGHT UP in it without consequence. Your flipping the page with one question. WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? So yeah, total mind catcher. Redemptive will take hold of you, grip you up then against your will release you, with no idea of where to go from here.
Everything with these two(Nate & Bailey) is at an escalated level. Their attraction, their affection, their love, what brings them together, what fights to keep them apart, their will to survive is all at an escalation throughout the entire book. The whole connection is just WHOA. Alright, alright I gotta shut it down cause I talk too much.
My thoughts I was not expecting this at all. And there is not much you can say without giving too much away. The book starts and ends on two distinct separate levels of desperation. In fact totally desperate, it's palpable and it will cling to you.
The writing Jay McLean has a strong hand when it comes to capturing moments and making those moments count for the characters. In turn these moments are impactful for the readers. I looooove this about her writing.

This book. This book. This book. THIS. BOOK. In The Ground RuSpoiler Free Review 4 STARS out of 5 Genre: Adult Romance (Erotica) Series: Book 1 in series
This book. This book. This book. THIS. BOOK. In The Ground Rules two married couples seemingly meet by chance. They soon become friends and later decide to swap partners to spice it up to gain some fun and experience in the form of sexual gratification.
These are the ground rules 1. Don’t sleep around. 2. Don’t kiss and tell. 3. Be nice. 4. Don’t text or call. 5. Don’t fall in love.
This book started off a two star read and slowly inched its way to four solid stars. Now, I should let you know that I started the book in the afternoon after seeing it as a recommendation in a thread on Facebook. I then finished it that night. So yeah, I was definitely glued to my kindle; only stopping to cook dinner and get some play time in with the kids before bed. Then I was back ALL UP IN THIS BOOK! I had to know how it ends!
While out on a date night married high school sweethearts Mirella and Gabe find themselves dining with a couple their opposite; rich and sophisticated compared to their middle class rough around the edges. Dinner goes well with Gabe completely at ease chatting with Bridget, hitting it off in a flirtatious yet innocent fashion. Mirella and Weston however have an...uneasy start. That is until Weston tells Mirella a few things he's noticed about her simply from observing.
At the end of the night both couples go their separate ways yet Mirella can't stop thinking about Weston. When the opportunity presents itself for the foursome to unite again they willingly go. However it's the call for a private meeting that takes place where things become more apparent. Desires surface. The Ground Rules are set. They couple swap. Rules are broken. Hearts are tested. Marriages are tried.
The Writing: In all honesty I found the writing to be fair. It didn't stand out in any spectacular way, yet it didn't fall short. It just sort of hovered in the middle. If that makes any sense to anyone but me.. Personally, I'm positive that the plot itself carried most of the weight. It intrigues you. You want to know; where is this going? How will it end? Will it destroy people; if so is there a way to restore what was lost?
The Characters: Mirella- I'm sorry I could not stand her. I wish we had multiple pov's she was kind of bland to me; but that’s just me. After the tease for book two I really wish I’d gotten THAT persons pov as well as Mirella’s. Just sayin. Gabe- love him!!! I'd give anything to be in his head, to get just a snippet. Weston- peculiar yet he slowly pulls you in. He kept me reading. Plain and simple, Weston had me by the palms! If he was on the scene I did not want to put my book down! Bridget- I want to know more. I don't really know her.
My Sweet and Sour My Sweet- The tease given at the end…
Let's just say I'm off to cyber find the author to discuss a few things, like say how soon she can get me book two! NEED. WANT. MUST. HAVE. NOW.
My Sour- having Mirella's pov. Wish we got more from the other characters.
Notes share: Below is a few notes I wrote in my kindle while reading! -Weston and Bridget breeze in with an air of polished sophistication. -Weston is intriguing. That alone pulls on my attention!
Final Thoughts: I surprisingly enjoyed it! I failed to hold a strong connection with Mirella. I wish I got both her and Weston’s pov. I have no idea why I never fully connected. I'd like to add that this book is NOT for everyone. Read at your own risk.
Cliffhanger???(view spoiler)[ No. But more is to come. (hide spoiler)] HEA??? (view spoiler)[ I…it was a HFN ending for me. There is more to the story according to the preview for the next book. Sooo we shall see. (hide spoiler)]
My Ratings Writing Style- The writing was cool. Like I said the plot and the idea carried the weight. Well that and Weston ;) POV Told in her(Mirella’s) pov, I was not happy about that. I failed to connect strongly with her. Plot/Storyline- A date night for two married couples turns into a mate swap. Only feelings take control for two of the mates. Rules are broken. Steam Factor-( Lo-Med-Hi) I say High. On a scale of 1-10 I say 8 Entertainment Level-(On a scale of Lo-Med-Hi) I say High Overall- I enjoyed it!!!

Tempting Bad is about two popular secondary characters from the VIP Trilogy. Brooke and Devon share a very close friend, Ysabelle, and have gone years without actually meeting one another up until the last VIP book where they then become very much acquainted. **raises eyebrows** Brooke is a VIP. Devon owns a bar. So here is a quick background on what is VIP: Very Important P*ssy, an exclusive escort service to extremely wealthy from around the world; sheiks, politicians, princes, celebrities, Doctors. I know what you’re thinking…Yes, this includes both men and women.
Brooke is a woman use to getting what she wants from the opposite sex just as Devon is a man of equal standing when it comes to women. He owns a bar in Miami and he’s HOT so as you can imagine he’s being hit on constantly. However his main problem is that he takes the women home. Brooke on the other hand does not take work home, she has a penthouse to play in. **wiggles eyebrows**
Alright so here is when things start to get interesting, after meeting these two hook up. During these hookups a friendship develops. Devon manages to have Brooke do something she has not done in years, take the heels off and wear *gasps in mock horror* SNEAKERS. No but really he allows her to let her hair down, to not always be in VIP mode, to instead be in Brooke mode. Though Brooke catches on quick she is far from ready to tuck away her f*ck me heels. In fact as things begin to unfold Brooke sets her sight on the crown. She wants to VIP.
My Sweet and Sour My Sweet- I LOVED the way these two accepted one another flaws and alllll. And trust me there was a lot going on. My Sour-This one scene where a breaking point is reached…It just shattered me to pieces. Like my whole being just shattered as the exchange went down.
What Readers should know : Both Brooke and Devon’s characters are introduced in the VIP Trilogy. While a small part of this story could be considered a minor spoiler to some I do believe this book can be read as a standalone. Honestly a TON of things happen in the VIP Trilogy so getting this one piece to a huge story overall would not ruin the experience the book has on readers
My Thoughts M. Robinson NEVER disappoints me and if something is off and not flowing right within the story or with its characters…well, I just tell her. LOL! No but really, I was immensely taken in by these two characters. That’s her strength when writing; she nails her characters. You meet them and get an understanding of what they want, desire, need even when they can’t see it, even when certain things have yet to be revealed. She tells the story with dual alternating points of view so that we are able to get in to a character head. Readers will often find themselves invested immediately.
The writing is hard hitting, she prefers to hold no punches and tends to go straight for the wind pipe with her hits. The direct approach mostly, giving you characters that are forward, honest and approachable though not willing to fully give their self to another…Thus creating a bridge to one of the conflicts present between the couple. The flow is face paced, yet careful and dare I say methodical. Yes, I believe I can as each character and their experiences are well thought out.
WARNING: This author has NO PROBLEM with pushing her characters’ to their limits right along with your sanity. Don’t say I never warned you. **insert sinister laugh here**
My Ratings Characters- Seductive in every way Writing Style- steamy, vividly descriptive, emotionally charged and WILD Plot/Storyline- A guy falls for an escort and her for him. But what she wants does not exactly line up with what he wants. And the past comes up uninvited to bite them in the butt. Can they have true love and survive the storms that come to take them out. Steam Factor- Lo-Med-Hi I say High, On a scale of 1-10 I say 10+++ Entertainment Level- On a scale of Lo-Med-Hi I would say HIGH Overall- I loved love LOVED it! Now go forth and read. Then come tell us about it on Goodreads! For more reviews got to:www.realitybites-letsgetlost.blogspot... ...more

The story goes from past to present day whereThis book is rated ‘G’ for Good! 3 STARS out of 5 Genre: YA Romance that transitions into NA Romance
[image]
The story goes from past to present day where readers quickly get the feeling something is happening we just have no clue exactly what. Present day moves at a slow pace giving us tiny glimpses as we zoom through the past to catch up. Now when I say zoom I do not mean that it was rushed in any way. In fact the author takes time and care with the story allowing readers to connect with both Alex and Jess.
When Alex Tanner’s mother became sick with Cancer her world starts to slowly crumble. Her father becomes jobless; eventually they lose their home and find themselves sleeping in their car in the hospital parking lot. One day Dr. Mason discovers Mr. Tanner and his young daughter sleeping in the car. He intervenes in a way that honestly will put most “who have” and are the able to help others to shame. NOTE: I refer to those blessed well enough to help others yet fail to do so because not everyone who can is willing to lend a hand.
So yes, Dr. Mason with the assistance of his wife helps to set Mr. Tanner and his young daughter on their feet. This part of the story is truly inspiring. It takes a real man to see another man at his lowest point and know that he has the ability to help and then he does it.
Eventually Alex and her father move to the small town of Arlis, Texas. They stay in a small home on a ranch owned by the Mason’s. Somehow in the midst of the good happening; Alex’s young mind decides that she will pay back the Mason’s for all their charity, she tacks on each kind act done to her list. The Mason List.
The Mason’s have a son named Jessup(Jess) he and Alex become best friends and well I think you see where this might be going...
If not let me break it down...Boy falls for girl, girl is blind to his love, boy admits love to girl, girl is SHOCKED, boy let’s girl know one day she’ll be his, girl is still shocked…girl runs from love, boy waits patiently. What boy does not know is that the girl has slowly become bitter. The bitterness has to be removed from around the girls heart in order for her to let the boy and his love in.
My Thoughts I thought this was good. I just personally did not love it. I more so clash with the heroine. More particularly I clash with the way she was written. I’m not a fan of running from what is right in front of you. Annnd I usually have patience so it could have been my mood. I don’t know, regardless I am not with running from love in the manner she did. So let that be clear, it was the way she frustrated me, it’s personal I can admit that okay. Okay.
I found the writing was good, providing detailed descriptions and I definitely became emotional while reading. Hendrickson knows how to pull at your heart this I can’t deny.
My Sweet- Sadie! I love her it would be nice if she got her own book! My Sour- Two things.1. Alex and her bitterness towards the Mason’s. 2. This can be seen as a spoiler to some while others won’t mind so I’ll hide it. (view spoiler)[ I dislike waiting the mass majority of a book for a couple to get together. (hide spoiler)]
- As far as I know this book is a standalone and it was told from Alex(the heroine's) point of view.
My Ratings Characters- Kind hearted, Sweet and Frustrating Writing Style- Good Plot/Storyline- After becoming homeless a young girl and her father are taken in by a Doctor and his family to live on their ranch. She then becomes best friend with their son as they get older he falls in love with her and whether she admits it or not she falls for him too. Steam Factor- Lo-Med-Hi Low, on a scale of 1-10 I say 5 Entertainment Level- Medium, I think the story had some great realistic aspects to it and dealt with real life situations. It kept my attention, had some sweetness in it and a few witty lines that had me smiling Overall- I liked it!
Sebastian and Ysa are slowly but surely building a beautiful life with one another. These two have been through so much both together and separate. Regardless one thing has always been clear to me; they belong together. The story since book 1 has been told in dual points of view so readers get the full measure of passion, anger, love, regret and fear.
After erecting walls as high as the empire state building, Sebastian must once again find a way to break through those walls to get to Ysa’s heart. Giving her heart to him is risky with the potential to destroy her. After all it's happened once before.
‘We hadn't said it to one another, and I wasn't going to be the one to say it first, even though I felt it in my being. He was the one… Love is a battlefield. There are two opponents on each side of the scale; one person moved forward, backward, side-to-side and the scale tips. In order to make it work, you have to work together. It takes two mutual parties becoming one. Communication is key. It’s the very foundation that will make or break your unity.’
Adjusting to their new life together on the island is not exactly easy…for either of them. MVP has Ysabelle swimming in some unfamiliar territory. Self doubt. Whenever she takes two steps forward she suddenly finds herself thrust back three steps. Feeling as though she is not enough for Sebastian, she begins to question herself and their relationship.
Her feelings of inadequacy consume her thoughts; when the timing could not be any worst one phone call alters EVERYTHING. Unable to be free of her past she is once again back at the cathouse. Only this time the circumstances are very different. Power has shifted.
Welcome to Miami Up to her old tricks Madam seeks out the one thing she covets more than anything else. Ysabelle.
…You’ve always been her favorite, we all know it.” “Why do you think that is?” “That’s like asking why the sky is blue and the sun is bright. We won’t ever get answers, Bella. She does what she wants, that’s what makes her The Madam.” I nodded, she was right. Except for the first time… I wanted answers.’
Ysabelle is not the only one who wants answers. Sebastian knows that Ysa does NOT belong at the cathouse. No, she belongs by his side. For Christ-sake the woman is permanently etched in to his heart.
MVP is very emotional conclusion to Sebastian and Ysa’s story, one I never saw coming. As a heads up I think you should know M. Robinson writes very well as an author for me because she knows no bounds. This suits my taste buds just fine. I think it’s safe to say she does not put limits on her characters. She writes according to her characters…going where they go, seeing what they see, taking what they want with a force called ownership. I like this very much! Therefore reader beware.
THREE. BOOKS. It took three books for me to like Julia. I can’t front she came through in MVP and was very sincere with it considering…EVERYTHING. Listen, sooo much goes down in this book. My mind was spinning, it was a very emotional ride and I actually cried at one point because it was just too much to take in. My emotions came in rapid succession as the story climaxed I was sad, devastated, angry then more anger. I just could NOT breathe I held my breath so long in one particular scene.
There was a scene between Ysa and Brooke that really piqued my interest. Brooke was evasive about her past. Of course I now need answers. LOL! Alright moving on, what I loved was the connection between Seb and Ysa. It truly ran soul deep. When she cried, he cried, I cried, we ALL cried together. Also the sex was off the hook. MELT YOUR PANTIES HAWT! LMBO! No really, be prepared this book is not to be read in public people.
My Ratings Characters-Lovable, Sexy and Flawed Writing Style- Raw, Sensual, exciting and emotional. My preferred cup of tea Plot/Storyline-Rich guy falls for escort and she for him, the two go through ups and downs and are trying to move forward only they are faced with many obstacles Steam Factor-HIGH/VERY STEAMY on a scale of 1-10 I say 10++++ Entertainment Level- High, the book is UN-PUT-DOWN-ABLE Overall- I LOVED IT! Young Ginny Lemon is abducted and taken out to the everglades of Florida where a notoriously dangerous biker gang resides. Living in what appears on the outside to be an old rundown motel. Brought to the leader, Grizz as a gift she fears of what will happen to her next yet somehow young Ginny plays it cool.
Stripped of her identity and given a new one, Ginny now known as Kit learns to survive day to day gradually adapting not knowing if she’ll ever be free from the biker gang...from Grizz
As time passes friendships are built, a relationship grows, secrets are revealed, loyalty is tested and Ginny’s abductions plays a huge role in the gangs life span. Bigger then you could ever imagine.
The characters These characters are entrancing. Each and every one of them brought something to the table either good or bad or just plain crazy. Everyone held a purpose within the story, even if that purpose was to show you something about a main character. The role of the lesser character would somehow provide insight in some way. I thought that was very interesting but also clever of the author. In this I found the writing to be cunningly understated, it simply catches you off guard.
My Thoughts When the book started I thought hmm not sure this one is for me. Next thing I know… I. CAN’T. STOP. READING.There is something about the voice, Ginny (the main character and narrator) it almost felt like an autobiography. Not sure if that is the tone the author wanted nevertheless it works. Ginny gives us a detailed account of her story and it truly felt like a movie playing out in my head on the big screen. **hint hint** I can totally see this on the big screen!
The other thing I enjoyed was the subtlety in the writing, it was smooth and I kind of touched on it above a little. The best way I can describe it is that it was like being a passenger in a car, you’re engrossed in the beautiful scenery around you so much so that you have no clue the driver is about to drive you right off a cliff. And this happens multiple times. I found myself cruising and then falling…Utter jaw dropping shocks to my system with each twist revealed.
My Sweet - Ginny's strength. My Sour - Mo(The character) I can't say more sorry.
- This book is mainly told from Ginny's point of view though readers will get a surprise pov. This is book 1 in a series. WARNING: This book does have a rape scene so readers beware.
My Ratings Characters- Sweet-Smart-Strong-Dangerous-Deceptive Writing Style- Strong, Clever and relatable in how the narrator connects to the reader Plot/Storyline- Young girl is kidnapped and taken to a biker gang in south Florida, where she witnesses first-hand how dangerous they truly are. Steam Factor- Lo Med-Hi I say Lo on a scale of 1- 10 I say 4 if that..Maybe 3 Entertainment Level- High, I found myself riveted, I was glued to my kindle Overall- I loved it! Now go forth and read. This book did things to me and I took it personal. You know what. I see what you did there Jenni Moen annnnnd I j4 STARS out of 5 Genre: Romance
[image]
This book did things to me and I took it personal. You know what. I see what you did there Jenni Moen annnnnd I just don’t know how I feel about it. I don’t even know how to review this book…or how to rate it.
How can a twist be so epically wrong? I’ll tell you how…. It alllll depends on the reader; how receptive they are to…changes. *smirks* So you see to some the major plot twist is epically wrong and to others it’s epically right. If anyone is stuck in between, I feel your pain because that is where I am. *sighs heavily*
With the Father is about decisions big ones-small ones, either way those choices will shape and/or change your life FOREVER.
I had a choice, and I chose wrong.
GAH, I don’t even know what to say. How do I NOT spoil this??? Seriously this book was flowing for me the author managed to pull me in. She provided a certain intimacy between her main characters that radiated off the pages and then….
I had an extremely hard time moving on from one particular twist. Crazy thing is… I guessed every twist and turn EXCEPT this one. I’m actually angry about it. I won’t lie. I went through so much Grace, her character really called out to me. In With the Father Grace experiences a heartbreaking tragedy. While trying to piece her life back together she starts to realize that not everything is as it seems with her life prior to the tragedy. Sounds like something you may have read before right? Well let me tell you that this is not the case.
I was a priest, not a saint.
Father Paul is lusted after by all of the women at the church. He is a true gentleman and upholds his vows. *raises eyebrows* As far as we know… Grace is his game changer; it is very apparent that he has feelings for her once we get his pov. Grace and Father Paul, become very close during this sensitive time in her life. As he helps to guide her through the multiple stages of grief a budding romance forms. It’s slow building, very sweet and intimate. These two just connect almost…and I really do mean almost like two missing pieces to a puzzle.
‘I fooled myself into believing that my interest in her wasn’t inappropriate and that I was content just to observe her, knowing it would never be anything more. After all, she was a married woman and my life had never been my own.’
Grace seems to be oblivious to Father Paul’s attraction towards her. Her sister however sees it clear as day. After alerting Grace to Father Paul’s crush her eyes is open to something that was never really hidden. He loves her.
My Thoughts What I expected this book to be was a forbidden romance but it turned into something else entirely. With the Father is NOT an easy read. Father Paul is somewhat of a mystery. Grace has no real background info on him and he is not as forthcoming on his own. He even manages to evade direct questions that are asked about his past. I found that interesting. I really wish that the author provided more than what was eventually given about his past. I wanted more. Aside from that the only other issue I had was that twister that hit me. The writing was good; it flowed easily, with slow story building. Plus, readers are eased in to the romance which I enjoyed.
My Rating and Why All I kept saying to myself is don’t you dare rate this out of anger. That would be unfair. The way I went about rating this was to literally break everything down. So I rate the first 90% 4 STARS, the last 10% 3 STARS, I also rate the characters and writing each 4 STARS. I know what you are thinking, that my reasoning is weird. I know this. I don’t care. *shrugs* The last 10% did not have a change in writing style there was a twist in the plot line that I personally did not like. Can’t rate a book solely on disliking the twist now can I?
My Ratings Characters- Lovable, Endearing and Sweet Writing Style- Good Plot/Storyline- A woman experiences a tragedy, she becomes close to a priest and they fall for each other Steam Factor- Lo/Very very light on a scale of 1-10 I say 2 the book did not need it and it did just fine without it Entertainment Level- Lo-Med-Hi I say High, the book held my rapt attention. I not once became bored. I would get upset if I had to stop reading. Overall- I loved then liked it. Am I confusing you? Sorry this book did things to me. Now go forth and read. Then come tell us about it on Goodreads! For more reviews got to:www.realitybites-letsgetlost.blogspot... Like us on Facebook:www.facebook.com/realitybitesletsgetlost ...more

Kate Sedgwick has faced many adversities in her young life thus far; having a mother who was not so motherly and in addition a sister Grace, to care for all on her own... Instead of cowering in fear at the cards life dealt Katie did what she had to do, she grew up fast. When the book starts Kate is about to start college in the small town of Grant Minnesota; leaving behind her best friend Gus and the sunny skies of San Diego, California.
As Katie adjusts to Grant she moves into the dorms and makes a new friend along the way, Clayton. Whom by the way I LOVE!!! Eventually she decides to seek out coffee to feed her daily addiction. Her search leads her to Grounds where she befriends the owner. With his help she lands a job that same day.
It’s not long before I realize that there is something special about Katie. She has the power to change a person…an atmosphere… I can’t even explain it. I guess the best way to say it is that Katie impacts lives. You don’t meet her without a mark being left. Her presence is almost enchanting because the second she opens her mouth she has your attention with her witticisms and sass.
It's not long before one trip to Grounds changes everything. Katie meets Keller Banks an easy going extremely HOT guy working the counter. A semi flirty verbal spar over coffee ensues. Eventually after spending time as friends Keller makes his intentions clear in a very sweet and swoon worthy way.
“Keller. What is this, birthday week ? This isn’t necessary. You took me out for dinner last night, remember?” He shrugs. “That was from all of us .” He smiles sweetly . “This is from me.” I open it. It’s a twenty-dollar gift card to Grounds. “Thanks. It’s perfect.” Thinking back to our conversation a few weeks ago at the flower shop, I add, “Is this blackmail or bribery?” “Neither. It’s insurance.” “Insurance?” “Yeah. That’s twelve cups of coffee . Twelve trips to Grounds . Twelve chances to see you.”
Soon Katie finds herself falling for Keller; and as much as she tries to keep it platonic between them he still breaks through her walls and gains entrance to her heart. Seeing that her defenses are ineffectual towards him she gives in.
After enduring hardships no one should have to face Katie’s optimistic outlook in life had her coined as Bright Side by her best friend Gus. Gus is very protective of Katie and with good reason; she has one of the biggest kindest hearts you could ever come across. So when you realize that she is hiding something important you feel a bit slighted.
Only she’s not the only one holding secrets…Keller has a few as well.
Life changing secrets…
[image]
Just when you think you know someone, they change. Or you change. Or maybe you both change. And that changes everything. -Keller
[image]
FAVE SCENE
'He’s not yelling at me, he’s yelling with me.' -Katie (You have to read the scene to understand let’s just say I wept right here)
There is also a scene with Gus and Keller that I LOVE!!! [image]
My Thoughts HUGE SHOUT OUT TO Donna at The Romance Cover and Jenny at Totally Booked for recommending this to me!
OH MY GAWD! Where to start? Kate, let’s start there. In one word I would describe Kate as jovial, always of good cheer and humorous at heart. The second she speaks people listen whether they like what is coming out of her mouth or not. She's also ballsy, which I loved! She has the lovingly precious friendship with Gus that just melted my heart. There is SO MUCH I want to say about him but I won’t. You need to meet him for yourself, trust me he will not disappoint. If I know anything I know this. Readers will want MORE OF GUS!!
The Writing -The book has a slow start as you go through the everyday small routines of a college girl. HOWEVER in these small mundane daily tasks Katie is causing these small tremors in the lives of those she comes in contact with. It may be small, like a song choice that pulls a smile out of someone who rarely smiles. OR it could be big and courageous like standing up for what’s right in a world filled with people who prefer to duck and look the other way.
At a certain point the book will take the air right out of your lungs rendering you BREATHLESS. Don’t let that stop you, keep reading.
I like Kim Holden’s style; she’s always saying something or maybe I should say relaying something about Kate in her writing when you’re not looking for it… its genius really. Pay attention tell me if you catch it. Watch the impressions Kate leaves on those around her. Yeah…I really dig Kim Holden’s writing style. Her words are well thought out and served with a purpose. Am I the only one who caught that? (Question is posed to readers)
My Ratings Characters- Lovable, Sweet, Endearing and HOT Writing Style- Strong and Methodical, which most won’t understand but it is, EVERY word served a purpose as I previously stated. Plot/Storyline- A girl leaves Cali to go attend college in a small Minnesota town where she makes new friends and finds LOVE. Steam Factor- High/Very Steamy on a scale of 1-10 I say 8 BTW, the steam came out of nowhere. HIT ME LIKE A HUGE WAVE OF FLAMES! Entertainment Level- Lo-Med-Hi I say Medium, the book held my attention, pulled out a few laughs and caused some big grins to spread across my face. Overall- I LOVED IT! I HIGHLY Recommend you read it! Now go forth and read. Then come tell us about it on Goodreads! For more reviews got to:www.realitybites-letsgetlost.blogspot... He is next to me but not beside me. We are both in this bed, but we are not sharing it.
“We’re not in love anymore,” I say. Just the sound of it coming out of my mouth makes my skin crawl and my adrenaline run. I am shaking. Ryan stares at me for a moment, no doubt shocked , and then he pulls his hands to his face, burying his fingers in his hair. He is a handsome man. I wonder when I stopped seeing that.
In this touching novel readers see how a couple can fall just as deeply in love as they can out of love. Only out of love comes at a slower pace, released over time. Told in the heroine, Lauren’s point of view we journey with her as she meets the love of her life, Ryan in college for the first time. After that they are pretty much inseparable.
‘I had never understood the concept of making love before. It seemed cheesy and dramatic . But I got it then. It isn’t just about the movement. It’s about the way your heart swells when he gets close. The way his breath feels like a warm fire. It’s about the fact that your brain shuts down and your heart takes over.’
Where is the L O V E They marry and ever so slowly over time they disconnect, become comfortable and just live in a routine. Day in and night out followed by weeks… this becomes year after year full of repeats. The simplest question can spark an argument. Eventually one must admit what has become obvious the love is G O N E.
Sadly the thrill is gone baby. Both Lauren and Ryan admit that the love they once had so strong is no longer there. They both decide to spend one whole year apart, living separate lives and at the end of the year they will re-evaluate the state of their marriage. The separation is far from easy as Lauren struggles with the decision to live apart from Ryan. It takes some time but eventually she finds herself living and no longer moping. It is in her living that she is able to have an identity minus Ryan. But it that necessarily a good thing...
After I do questions…what marriage should be after the vows? How important is monogamy in marriage? When you feel like love is gone can you get that love back? Will it be as strong as it once was?
My Ratings Characters- Sweet and lovable Writing Style- Good, it will easily pull you in to the story Plot/Storyline- A couple discovery that after years of marriage the love is gone. They decide to spend one year apart in hopes that the time will help them once again find the love they held for one another once again. Steam Factor- Lo-Med-Hi I say Medium. Twenty six years ago Jules Doucette made a decision that knocked her world off it’s axis. This unfortunately sends Jules in to a downward spiral of darkness and in turn she loses the boy who loved her since they were kids in the process. Since then she has been living a life that was pretty much premeditated by her mother.
A life with missing pieces…
[image]
Noah is finally home after twenty six years, wanting to be close to family now more than ever. Only his return brings him face to face with an angry unresolved past.
“Once upon a time you thought you’d die without him. Then you thought you’d crumble into dust if you ever saw him again.” She leaned forward at me, intending to be forceful. “Well, he’s back. And you’re still standing.” –Ruthie to Jules
Secrets are revealed as Noah and Jules find a way to deal with it in the here and now. You start to wonder if there is hope for these two. This is a romance after all and there is an obstacle blocking them from getting that happily ever after you so eagerly crave. A major one that left me thinking how in the world is this going to work out.
My Thoughts This story was heartbreaking at times and absolutely beautiful at times. What captivated me so well is the gravitational pull between Jules and Noah. If they’re in a room together, together they will be, somehow always finding one another. In fact this does not go unnoticed by other characters. The chemistry is on point which we all know is crucial in a romance.
Another attention grabbing thing about the book was the real life issues Jules has to deal with on top of her sexy as all hell ex returning. For one, she is divorced, from that marriage came Becca her daughter. Well.. let me tell you, Becca is a rebel looking to carve out her own path NOT the one her mother set for her. To top that Jules has this pivotal moment that we all dread; the one where our mother’s voice comes out of our very own mouths.
‘Echoes of my mother’s voice rang in my head, but I was too far gone to think about that.’
*face meet palm* Yeah, I’ve been there and it is not fun. All in all this book is about life, love and relationships. The story is very emotional I cried a few times and laughed a few times as well. I highly recommend you keep a box of Kleenex near.
Not sure if anyone noticed this but I’ve been trying to keep my reviews a bit shorter. It’s NOT my job to tell the story my job is to convince you why you need to read it. Read the book!
My Ratings Characters- Lovable, Sweet and Endearing Writing Style- Excellent, Solid 5 Star read for me Plot/Storyline- Reunited love after a twenty six year separation. Noah and Jules grew up best friends and eventually became lovers when one choice changes the course of their life. Steam Factor- Medium/Moderately Steamy on a scale of 1-10 I say 7.5 Entertainment Level- Lo-Med-Hi High, I was very entertained I mean even the dog played his part, I just Loved it! Overall- I highly recommend you read this! 2014 FAVE! Now go forth and read. Then come tell us about it on Goodreads! For more reviews got to:www.realitybites-letsgetlost.blogspot... ‘What is it about Troy Heathgate that just won’t let me be?’ -Shayda
Could it be that the man can charm the panties off of any woman he encounters. Yeah, that must be it! Shayda Hijazi is in love with a man who is NOT her husband. Placed in an arranged marriage, Shayda has just taken the cards that life has dealt her, never really taking the time to do what she wants in life. She is a wife to Hafez, they have two children but Shayda has secrets. Secrets that could leave a person shattered a secret that has left two people broken, a secret that can tear a family apart. Shayda holds them tightly inside tucked in a little corner as she goes through life being a mum, a wife, a daughter and a friend. Alive but not truly living. Not living for Shayda and then she meets Troy…
“So what’s it like? To have it all?” -Shayda “Like flying. Soaring. Until you come across the one thing you’d give it all up for, and can never have.” -Troy I suck in my breath.
As do I. You suck in a breath as Troy casually tells Shayda that to the world YES I seem to have it all but in reality I don’t, I don’t have YOU. Troy Heathgate is rich, gorgeous, charismatic, and intelligent. He is lusted after by women all across the globe. He takes whatever it is he wants in life and most times what he wants is freely given. It’s not until he meets Shayda that he realizes he can’t have it all. Or…can he?
“Shayda, if we’re going to do this, there’s something you should know. I don’t do threesomes with shame or guilt or regret. You need to check those in at the door . They don’t belong in bed. I intend to get to know everything about you—every curve on your body, every dirty, sexy thought, every dark, hidden spot. Everything…” -Troy
[image]
A love story that spans time covering three decades of love, guilt, secrets, fear, sorrow, helplessness, beauty, pain and joy.
I was careful to leave A LOT of things that I would love to say out of my review. I pretty much went in to this read blind and am very happy I did. There a things you should read and feel. I want that impact to hit you how it hit me. I will say this and you’ll have to read to understand, my fave scene involves the big red ‘O’.
Leylah Attar does an awesome job with this book, I was totally enraptured by Shayda and Troy! Attar includes our changing and forever evolving world by incorporating computers and the internet which is Troy’s main source of income as the internet was just in it’s beginning stages around the timeframe set in the book. I really liked that, when real life connects with book life.
There are a few scenes that WHOOSH and knock the wind out of you. Especially in relation to relationships particularly Shayda and her father. With that I think this author does something that not all can do well let alone pull off wonderfully. She explores. She explored Shayda’s life, culture, customs, love, infidelity and how all these things work in terms of cause and effect. Damn, what I just wrote..that last sentence just made me change my 4 stars to 5.
My thoughts Excellent! Well written! These characters will stick with me FOREVER. This is not your typical affair it’s so much more to it. I’m kind of pissed I waited to read it; this book was sitting in my Kindle for weeks. At first I was not convinced that this book was for me. As I started the book for about the first 10% I was just not in to it but I kept going. By the time I got to 19% I knew this book had me. From then on, if I had to stop reading for real life I would get pissed. In my humble opinion I believe this book can easily be a best seller, it completely sucks you in. My Recommendation is READ THIS BOOK!
My Ratings Characters- Beautiful, Charming and Witty Writing Style- Very solid with an intense undertone that tackles morality, being human and making mistakes. Plot/Storyline- A woman has an affair, but it’s not what you think. She was placed in an arrange marriage one of convenience and ancestry not love. Steam Factor- High/Very Steamy on a scale of 1-10 I say 9 Entertainment Level- Lo-Med-Hi Highly entertaining! Loved it! Overall- I recommend you read the book! It is a 2014 FAVE!
