AndreDead Girls Don't Dance is the story of the beginning of the relationship of Andrea and Daniel, who you’ll meet again in Undead and Unappreciated.
Andrea, after a couple of years unconscious straggling around as a newbie vampire, now runs into Daniel. Andrea had a serious crush on him in college, but back then, Daniel wasn’t interested in her.
Now he is very interested. Daniel reacts very smoothly to the news that Andrea has become a vampire, and attaches himself to her side.
Daniel had a hand over his eyes. "They're never going to believe this at the reunion."
He is sweet, funny, perceptive, and endearing.
"Oh, baby, if I get laid when you feed, then slap a sign on my ass and call me a buffet."
Andrea is very lonely, her life centers on feeding, and hiding from daylight. She wants to die, for real this time, but she hesitates to walk into the daylight, or to starve herself. Daniel’s concern, comfort, and affection give her life a new perspective.
"Now, come on. You're not bad, Andy, you're just—in a bad situation. Yeah. And it's so totally not your fault, it should be a crime. In fact," he said, warming to his subject, "it was a crime! Like, murder, anyone? You're just doing the best you can. And you said yourself you only go after scumballs . You're—you're doing a community service! Yeah, that's it, they oughta give you a friggin ' medal.”
The story follows Andrea and Daniel on their ride from Chicago to Minnesota, where Andrea is about to meet the new vampire queen, Elizabeth. If you’ve already read the Undead series, you will be very pleased with the short episode featuring Betsy and Eric Sinclair. If you haven’t, it will make you more curious about the sassy, shoe-obsessed, all-powerful vampire queen, who is so enviably adored by her consort, Sinclair.
Awesome, laugh-out-loud funny novella of the Undead series. Do not miss it. ...more

"Let me guess, Velkan wants to see me?" "No. The only thing His Highness would like to see in regards to you, Princess, is your disembowelment."
It is a Romeo and Juliet story embedded into the Dark-Hunter Universe.
The main characters are Esperetta, daughter of Vlad Tepes, and Velkan Danesti, once a sorcerer, now a Dark-Hunter with shape-shifting abilities. They were enemies by families but fell in love and got married in secret more than five hundred years ago. Both of their families disowned them, and after a tragic chain of events, Retta ran away from Velkan.
The story is very tense from the beginning: what happened to Esperetta in fact? Can she believe Velkan? Who is the real monster? Which one is real: their mutual hatred or desire?
Dignity and pride don’t allow them to express their feelings. They are both unbelievably stubborn not to reach for each other for five centuries. It is just unimaginable for a mortal like me to waste so much time.

Anyway, it is nicely worked-out, both for the main and the secondary characters. Aside from one little mistake in the plot, it is a great story. ...more

A collection of short stories based on words that don’t have an exact English equivalent, the only thing you can do is to explain them, circumscribe them.
Some of these stories fit into existing ‘verses (Foundations!verse, Turn!verse, Fluffy!verse, All Life Is Yours to Miss), others are stand alones.
Word #2 (view spoiler)[Tartle (hide spoiler)] A Foundations!verse story. Clive’s first birthday party at the Malfoy Manor. Cute little story.
Word #3 (view spoiler)[Mamihlapinatapai (hide spoiler)] This word captures that special look shared between two people, when both are wishing that the other would do something that they both want, but neither want to do. A stand-alone. I loved this one!
Word #5 (view spoiler)[Fremdschämen/Myötähäpeä (hide spoiler)] A really great stand-alone! It is set in Hogwarts, told from the viewpoints of Blaise, Pansy and Greg.
Word #22 (view spoiler)[L’esprit de l’escalier (hide spoiler)] The first one I’ve heard before. Foundations!verse, no appearance of Harry and Draco, only Eloise, Cecile, and some other healers and nurses. Fun story.
The staircase is quiet for long seconds as department heads, trainee Healers and nurses alike gaze around at each other, exchanging delighted, conspiratorial smiles and basking in the unexpected connection that despising Augustus Tremellen has given them.
Word #25 (view spoiler)[Bilita Mpash (hide spoiler)] An amazing dream. Not just a "good" dream; the opposite of a nightmare. A Hogwarts short. Too short, actually.

A lovely short story featuring Cecile Mackenzie and Terry Boot.
It’s sweet to follow the seventeen steps of Terry of falling in love with Cecile, but maybe it took only one.
Harry and Draco are only mentioned.
“Look at them,” Terry murmurs, pointing to a mostly-hidden angle of the house where Malfoy has Harry practically pinned against the wall. He’s never been into public displays of affection, but there’s something uncomfortably intense about the way they hold on and steal kisses that makes it hard to look away.

Cat and Bones are on a job to protect a spoiled heiress, Tammy Winslow, whose life is in danger because her cousin wants her dead.
As Don doesn’t succeed to find said cousin (Gable), Cat and Bones take the matter into their own hands. They make a nostalgic visit (or two) to the place of their first date, the nightclub called Bite.
The story accurately summarizes the events of the previous books. The newly turned and grief-stricken Justina is here, an unusual self-defense lesson is presented, as well as a hot sex scene and an action scene where Justina (view spoiler)[ saves Bones’ life (hide spoiler)].

Story 6000 years earlier, Cratus, a sentinel of Zeus, had defied Zeus’ order and had spared a life he should have taken. He had been punished severely,Story 6000 years earlier, Cratus, a sentinel of Zeus, had defied Zeus’ order and had spared a life he should have taken. He had been punished severely, his godhood taken, and forced to live on Earth as a mortal, deprived from even the tiniest morsel of happiness or satisfaction. Plus, he has been tortured and killed every night, and resurrected by the morning ever since.
The story sets in the present: the Greek pantheon is threatened by two Source gods, Noir and Azura. As Cratus (now Jericho) is a Source god himself, the Greeks send two Oneroi gods, Phobos and Delphine, to convince him to fight on their behalf, and in return he’d get back his godhood and powers.
The first 30 percent is very repetitive and boring. The rest seems chaotic and soap-opera-like. New and old characters are thrown randomly into the plot: Greek Gods, Source Gods, Oneroi, Skoti, Atlanteans, Daimons, Dark-Hunters, Gallu demons, the “original gods of sun and of fire” – I’m not sure I mentioned everyone. Plus the maze in which they are all connected somehow.
Romance The insta-love is justified with fate, no development.
Characters Jericho is tortured yet he has compassion and a soft side – unexpected even for him. He is tall and handsome with a lethal aura, and insanely hot.
Delphine is beautiful and perfect, with grace, a playful and caring attitude, and incredible fighting skills.
By the way, in this world all of the male characters are insanely handsome and tall, with a lethal aura, and all the women are petite (except Astrid, who is tall), beautiful, funny and wise.
All in all I read Dream Warrior two years ago, but I had to re-read it now because I didn’t review it then and I couldn’t remember a word from it.
I started to read this series more than 10 years ago, and I loved it back then. But obviously, my reading taste has changed a lot, and I don’t enjoy PNR books as much as I did. I’ve abandoned not only this one, but many PNR series I had started to read because of the same reason. Sometimes I feel guilty about it, so I read the next one in line, but they usually don’t satisfy me. Sadly, it happened again with Dream Warrior....more

The main part of the story covers the events of the Immortals After Dark series from the first novella, The Warlord Wants Forever to the end of book 5, Dark Needs at Night’s Edge.

“You can't go through life alone. Trust me on this one. It's lonely as hell.”
Short and satisfying.
Celena, a Squire, who lives for the rules, is in constant worry for the ones under her care, and does everything to ensure their safety. It is especially true for Rafael, for whom she has been longing secretly for years.

Rafael Santiago, an ex-pirate, now Dark-Hunter is fascinated by Celena’s fierce beauty, and strict protectiveness. After an almost fatal, but luckily ended adventure they confess their feelings for each other, and live happily ever after.

I’m amazed again by the fact that Ms. Kenyon is able to jam incredibly many things into only a couple of pages: humor, background story, emotions, a Daimon attack, an Apollite wedding, surprises, action, erotica, and Acheron. Nicely done! Too bad it is short.

An affectionate and sincere marriage is not like the one presented here, friends don’t talk to each other like the way James and Kent do, and – not that I know much about this – I don’t think the everyday life of a president is like that. This story is very artificial and unrealistic. The characters are thinking way too much about the same thing over and over again, the writing style is killing me, no humor, no steam, no development.

Driving made her happy. The feel of the power at her fingertips. The rush of the wind past her open window when the weather cooperated. And the faster she drove, the freer she felt. Fifty-five miles per hour wasn't happiness.
I loved the contrast between Nate’s calmness and soberness and Jenny’s lightness, vehemence, and delightful charm. Not only the both of them are nicely delineated, but Ms. Dahl did a great job even with the characterization of the secondary characters, making them distinguishable.
Loved the story, too, it was simple, realistic, humorous, without too much drama, without exaggeration. The erotic scenes were delicious as well.
It is the first story I’ve read by Victoria Dahl, but I'm sure there will be more!

Josh expresses his desires to have sex with a woman because he feels he is missing out. Nick says their relationship is strong enough and gives him permission, if the possibility occurs, to do it.
But first, to make their anniversary perfect, they have sex, and based on how they are verbalizing their satisfaction it must have been pretty good.
But I didn’t feel it.

Laura is staying at the same hotel as Nick and Josh are, and she sees Josh at the beach next day. She is immediately attracted to this “perfect specimen of manhood”, but to her disappointment she notices his wedding ring. As if that would be the only obstacle to have a chance with him. Too bad, because “his smile is enough to cause her bikini briefs to spontaneously combust.”
But Josh buys her a drink and invites her to have dinner with him and his husband.
She accepts the invitation and the evening is wonderful. Both men are “devastatingly attractive” and Laura is apparently Josh’s dream come true (in less than a day).
“Laura, I’ve never been with a woman, never really, truly wanted to. Until now.”
After this, you get a sex scene with sex-education from Laura and porn-like dialogues. (view spoiler)[

The plot is smartly built. The odd, discursive dreams turn into some volatile reality. The human world and the supernatural one exist closely each other. There are interesting twists and turns, nothing is what it seems.
I was bored a little by V’Aidan’s whining about his true nature and his feelings, around the middle of the story. It was exaggerated, and unnecessary. The end is too easy, some kind of reverse Sleeping Beauty, but as a whole, it is a nice novella.

Like Dragonswan is about the Arcadians and the Katagaria, Phantom Lover gives background information and characterization of Dream-Hunters, Skoti, and Oneroi. It is not essential but it is worth reading it if you want to get a clearer picture about Dream-Hunters.
What I like the most in the Dark-Hunter Universe, is that, as in real life, things are not exclusively black or white. Things not always are what they seem to be, good and evil are not separated clearly. Anything could happen....more
