This one, of course, has to be a part of the race, and I'm thrilled to say I ADORED it. The cover caught my attention and the story grabbed me on page one and never let go.
We follow Willow and Dev, who have known each other since they were kids because Dev is Willow's brother's best friend. She always had a crush on him, and he had no idea. Then they kissed a year before the story started, and Dev couldn't stop thinking about her since. (She fell first, and he fell harder.) Dev is a famous F1 driver and he finds himself in a big social media scandal, which leads him to offer Willow a job of his social media manager to help him recover his image. Enter lots of forced proximity and delicious tension.
The romance is addicting, fun, lighthearted, sweet, and sexy, and I loved every second of it. Willow and Dev communicate really well, and the progression of the romance feels so natural and right. They're both sunshine and charming, which makes the book the ultimate comfort read. There is not an overwhelming amount of angst, so it's perfect if you want something lighter and less intense. There are also some really fun side characters, and I'm excited to see them in the other books in the series (I hope there will be lots of them).
Needless to say, this is a sports romance I will recommend over and over. If you want to read a forced proximity, brother's best friend, sunshine + sunshine F1 romance, you need this on your TBR and shelves immediately. ...more

The Moon on a Rainy Night by Kuzushiro follows Saki and Kanon - they run into each other on the street and end up being in the same class at school. It is definitely grumpy/sunshine, and Kanon doesn't want to talk to Saki at first but then she warms up to her, and they become friends.
I loved watching their friendship evolve, seeing Saki pine over Kanon, and the whole dynamic between them. There's no romance in this book yet but it should hopefully evolve into one in the upcoming volumes, and I cannot wait to see that!! I loved their personalities and it was such a fun read. Kanon is also hard of hearing, so if you've been looking for more books with disability representation, this is an amazing option.
I highly recommend it if you'd like to read a sapphic manga that's mostly slice-of-life, sweet, fun, and easy to read....more

I have no idea where I’m supposed to find the words to express how much I loved this book. I don’t think they exist in my vocabulary. My *deep breath*
I have no idea where I’m supposed to find the words to express how much I loved this book. I don’t think they exist in my vocabulary. My heart’s bursting with feelings after I just finished it, and I’m speechless. But if I don’t write this now, I don’t think I’ll ever get it out. So, let’s start at the beginning.
This book follows Julie and Elle – Julie’s coaching a high school basketball team, and she meets Elle when she comes to the school with one of the players, Vanessa, since she’s her foster parent. Elle is Julie’s old crush and idol, and she is very nervous around her at first, but they quickly start becoming friends when Elle agrees to be an assistant coach for the team. This means she can spend more time with Vanessa and Julie as well.
The two of them immediately click, and their friendship is so strong and beautiful from the start, it starts getting deeper when Elle offers to help Julie practice dating so she can figure out if it’s for her. I adored the way the two of them find home within each other, and so much tenderness, care, love, and understanding. It feels so safe, like a warm blanket, or a tight hug, and it made my heart ache with its loveliness. I cried on multiple occasions from how much Elle and Julie meant to me, and how many things resonated with me.
There’s exploration of identity in Julie’s case, since she’s not quite sure where she fits in the spectrum of labels. She feels like she might be a bit ace or demi, she knows she’s queer in some way but not which way exactly, and she doesn’t know how to define any of it. I loved how supportive Elle was of it all, even as someone who’s been comfortable with her own label for a long time. It’s so incredibly beautiful to see.
It explores so many things. Figuring out what to do with your life. Foster parenting. Mental health. Friendships. Love. Healing. I loved the foster parenting storyline and Vanessa as a character. The way that both Elle and Julie cared about her. I loved that we get to see the characters from the previous books and all the wonderful friendships. I loved everything about Elle, Julie, and this whole book. There’s so much kindness and compassion in it, and I didn’t know how much I needed it until I read it.
This story reminds you that you are worthy of patience, of understanding, empathy, and love no matter what state you’re in. No matter how much you have figured out. That the way you are is already enough, even if you feel lost and maybe a little broken. That you can open up to the right people and they’ll help you find your way. That you don’t have to face everything alone. You can ask for help. You can love and be loved in a way that’s right for you.
It’s sweet, tender, raw, honest, and vulnerable. I hugged the book when I finished it, and it feels like, emotionally, it hugged me too. So if it’s not clear I recommend it? Well, you probably didn’t read any of those words above.
I almost don’t want to recommend it because of how much it meant to me, and want to keep it all to myself. But if it sounds like you need this book more than you need air, then yes, you do. Go read it. Go pick it up.
I’ll just be here desperately waiting for the next Anita Kelly release. ...more
