Primero comenzaré hablando de mi amistad con el autor, que data desde hace ya unos 6 años o incluso más, sí bien ambos somos del mismo país, vivimos en diferentes ciudades y de momento no nos conocemos en persona. Comenzamos como simples desconocidos haciendo negocios de compra y venta de libros por facebook y con el tiempo transcurrido puedo decir que es una de esas buenas amistades que me ha dado el mundo de los libros y las redes sociales.
Hace ya un tiempo había tenido el gusto y placer de leer uno de sus relatos, "(Desambiguación)" y me gustó bastante, en este se nos plantea un futuro distópico similar al ya contado por Ray Bradbury en "Fahrenheit 451" pero a la inversa, puesto que en ese se queman los libros, ya que es un delito leerlos y poseerlos, y en este relato de Gabriel, el delito es la mala ortografía, una organización que comienza multando anuncios publicitarios de mega empresas termina adquiriendo mucho poder para ensañarse luego con el ciudadano promedio que puede llegar a desconocer la infinidad de reglas gramaticales que existen. Una idea brillante que logra desarrollar de manera corta y sencilla homenajeando la premisa planteada ya por Bradbury, pero que logra transformar en algo totalmente diferente. Es con ese punto de partida que sabía debía comprar la autopublicación de su libro en formato físico, ya que anteriormente solo existía en digital para así apoyar no solo a un amigo, también a un escritor emergente y prometedor.
Uno de los tópicos más recurrentes que nos encontraremos en los 9 relatos que componen la antología, es la literatura en sí, tendremos personajes que son lectores, escritores, estudiantes de literatura, bibliotecólogos, etc y que generalmente estan involucrados en situaciones de lo más cotidianas como pueden ser el estar estudiando o trabajando. Es así como el autor logra reflejar y evidenciar su pasión por el mundo de las letras, ya que antes que escritor es un lector empedernido como muchos de nosotros (sí estás leyendo esto es por qué lo eres). Es así como podremos notar reflejadas sus influencias con historias un tanto clásicas al puro estilo de Stephen King, Poe, Lovecraft, George Orwell o el ya mencionado Bradbury, pero también otras un tanto más experimentales y arriesgadas del corte de autores como James Joyce, Thomas Pynchon o David Foster Wallace. Es por eso que una de las características o puntos fuertes que puedo darle a este libro es el que está escrito por un lector para lectores, algo que claramente ha sido de mi total agrado.
Ahora en cuanto a los relatos, "(Desambiguación)" me sigue pareciendo excelente y es sin duda uno de mis favoritos, pero claro, como en la mayoría de antologías hay relatos que gustan más o menos y aunque si bien hubo uno que no fue de mi total agrado como "Escaleras, inundaciones y otros detalles que olvidé cuando desperté" que sentí confuso, enredado y un tanto denso, o en "Una imagen es más valiosa que mil palabras" que sentí me hizo falta algo más para potenciar el final, puedo decir que realmente todos vale la pena, es interesante conocer y adentrarnos en la mente de la persona detrás de estas historias que logra dejar en evidencia sus pasiones, obsesiones, sueños y también por qué no, sus más profundos temores. Claramente no quiero ahondar a profundidad en cada uno de los relatos, ya que me parece puede resultar mejor para aquel lector o lectora que decida entrar en sus páginas y así no dañarle la experiencia, pero debo decir que después del último relato, también uno de mis favoritos, hay cierto anfibio al que no podré volver a ver de la misma forma.
Sin mucho más que decir, solo puedo felicitar a Gabriel por trabajar en la concepción de estas historias y en la publicación de las mismas, ya que sé no fue una tarea nada fácil, que sea el primer libro de muchos más. E invitar a todos los interesados en que compren su libro....more

Un disfrute total esta lectura, claramente en mayor parte gracias a la edición, pues muy seguramente de haberla leído en otra no sería lo mismo. Esto principalmente por la excelente versión en prosa de Samuel Butler, la cual cuenta con un lenguaje muy amigable y de fácil comprensión para los neófitos como yo, las ilustraciones sencillas, pero acertadas de Calpurnio y los datos importantes que se nos van soltando a pie de página en algunos momentos importantes de la trama, así como la cronología que permite establecer una posible fecha exacta en la que inicia y termina la historia. Personalmente leer esta versión me recordó a cuando leí los Mitos Nórdicos de Neil Gaiman, esto en cuanto a la forma en que se adapta algo que de por su antigüedad, leerla de manera literal puede resultar difícil, denso o aburrido, pero cuando expertos trabajan en adaptar una historia de esa magnitud a un lenguaje actualizado permite que se pueda disfrutar por todos en tiempos modernos.
Quiero mencionar que dos cosas me impulsaron a querer aventurarme en este gran clásico y salirme de mi zona de confort, el primero, mi deseo de leer Ulises de Joyce en un futuro no muy lejano, y en segundo, mi anterior lectura "El Infinito en un Junco", en el que claramente se le atribuye una gran importancia a la obra de Homero en ese contexto de la antigüedad y el origen de los libros por lo cual cada vez que se mencionaba quedaba bastante picado y con ganas de querer leer tales obras.
Puedo decir que quedo completamente satisfecho de conocer todas las aventuras y desventuras de nuestros personajes míticos e icónicos, tales como Ulises, Telémaco, Penélope y demás, creo que una de las mejores cosas que te quedan de leer obras tan importantes es que ahora vas a poder entender absolutamente todas las referencias que vas encontrando en otras novelas e inclusive en películas o videojuegos, que inclusive me pasó hace poco cuando veía la película de "El Lector".
Ahora espero leer pronto La Ilíada, que sí bien es cierto quedé con la duda respecto a sí debía leer ese primero, pero como la editorial sacó primero este pues así quedo decidido mi orden de lectura aunque no creo que importe mucho....more
