And it had a few illustrations which were so well done. Overall, a heartwarming, whimsical adventure that was so enjoyable to read! Also, it was genuinely very funny!!!

Enjoy the dynamic characters, wild plot, beautiful settings, & fantastical world! A story that starts small and gradually expands and connects in a masterful way. This will be tough to beat and I am so sad for it to be over.

I felt so many strong emotions. HOF was about Aelin's growth and healing. QOS was more about her letting go and moving forward. Aelin is such a great character, if only for her hard exterior combined with her deep love for her friends. The cemetery scene with her and Sam was so sad, but also beautiful. Thank GOD, Lysandra killed Arobynn. What a SCUMBAG CREEP. I was so happy she was finally able to free herself from the man that wrecked her childhood and Aelin's. I was so glad to see Aedion reunite with Aelin. This man has had so many close calls... I don't understand how he is still breathing. Rowan and Aelin are cute af and I will be devastated if anything happens to separate them.
"What could I ever ask of you that I couldn't do myself?...That's the problem. Yes, you can do most things on your own. That doesn't mean you have to" (Aelin & Aedion)
"I was always looking toward the horizon, always wondering what waited across the next ocean, over the next mountain. But I think... I think that whole time, all those centuries, I was just looking for you" (Aelin & Rowan)
I loved reading about Manon and her slow, but powerful journey into emotion and compassion, even in its most subtle forms. "Made into monsters", a line that was repeated over and over in Manon's head. Her realization of her own brainwashing was SO EXCITING. And, her connection with Dorian:). I can't wait to see where this goes. And Elide <3. I need her to run into the squad at some point. Lysandra's return was also iconic.
"I enjoyed it because I thought it was better to be someone's pawn then nothing at all" (Lysandra)
And I almost forgot, one of the most dynamic characters so far- Chaol. Going from being disgusted by magic to sacrificing himself before the king. Major slay. I think he is secretly in love with Dorian by the way he was obsessing over him.
Finally, my girl, Kaltain, getting to let out her vengeance on the disgusting demon pigs of Morath. Slay queen!

There were single sentences that included so many profound connections and descriptions. This was also a hard read. It was long and there were not traditional chapters, so it felt like there was no concrete stopping points. It felt somewhat spiritual which I enjoyed. I loved some sections, but I would never want to reread completely lol.
My biggest takeaway was an increased awareness and appreciation for trees. It seems so simple, but something i have never deeply thought about. I was 20 pages in, walking out in my yard, considering the ages of the trees around me and how many lives they’ve lived. I am now obsessed with the idea of visiting the Redwoods, seeing trees that are centuries old.
The characters were so well fleshed out. The first ~nine chapters outlining the characters could’ve been their own short stories completely separate from this. They were so enjoyable and heartfelt.
I underlined sooo many things, so it’s hard to choose a few fave quotes.
“To be human is to confuse a satisfying story with a meaningful one, and to mistake life for something huge with two legs. No: life is mobilized on a vastly larger scale, and the world is failing precisely because no novel can make the contest for the world seem as compelling as the struggles between a few lost people. But Ray needs fiction now as much as anyone. The heroes, villains, and walk-ons his wife gives him this morning are better than truth. Though I am fake, they say, and nothing I do makes the least difference, still, I cross all distances to sit next to you in your mechanical bed, keep you company, and change your mind.”
“It is no answer to say that streams and forests cannot have standing because streams and forests cannot speak. Corporations cannot speak, either; nor can state, estates, infants, incompetents, municipalities, or universities. Lawyers speak for them.”
“Patty learns that real joy consists of knowing that human wisdom counts less than the shimmer of beeches in a breeze. As certain as weather coming from the west, the things people know for sure will change. There is no knowing for a fact. The only dependable things are humility and looking.”

It’s a non-stop story that looks into the ideas of divinity and immortality. Is it all it’s cracked up to be?? It also has a quality ending.
Fave quotes:
“But in a solitary life, there are rare moments when another soul dips near yours, as stars once a year brush the earth. Such a constellation was he to me.”
“I mean that he was made only of himself, without the dregs that clog the rest of us. He thought and felt and acted, and all these things made a straight line. No wonder his father had been so baffled by him. He would have been always looking for the hidden meaning, the knife in the dark. But Telemachus carried his blade in the open.”

I loved the characters, watching Evelyn teach Monique so much in such a short time. Her life story contains so many important elements, but none of them overpower the others. Idk if that makes sense, but I was telling my sister if I would compare it to a movie, I would say Ladybird. It’s a book where everything happens, but nothing happens. It is just LIFE (the life of a super famous movie star, but stilllll). It’s told in such a raw and methodical way that it feels balanced and I FELT for the characters. The love story weaved throughout and the irony of the title<3 I can’t wait to read another one of her books. ...more
