The book mixes a novelistic structure with a learning style and I loved this combination. I think that the idea of explaining hard and abstract concepts from physics and astronomy using a narrative thread that connects and guides the reader in a kind of journey is perfect. I highly recommend this book to all astronomy and physics fans who want to enjoy a space adventure.

...more

But I musMany of you had recommended to me The Nightingale and after reading the reviews on Goodreads and Amazon my desire to read it only increased. But I must say that like the case of The Light we can not See, the stories that are set in the Second World War are not my favorite ones. I suppose there are so many books, stories and films set in those tragic facts that I always have some prejudice to appreciate its originality. And again, I was wrong. When I start reading it I just got caught up with the two protagonists, two sisters with different personalities and lives who unintentionally see their destiny intertwined because of the war. The Nightingale is a long novel, but I think it needs that extension, not only to develop the catharsis of each character but above all to exploit the scenery properly. As a reader, at first you can hardly perceive a slight scent of war but as the pages progress you feel more and more the pressure, the hunger, the uncertainty of a war that crushed all of Europe. I must say that the end made me cry (and in my case, it is very difficult to get it). I think it's a hard but necessary ending to an equally hard and necessary novel. So, I totally recommend its reading to everyone, especially those who like great stories full of tragedy and drama but also with hope and compassion.

The truth is that the story of Armada has a lot in common with Ready Player One; from the eighties pop culture inspiration to the use of futuristic technology, from the asocial main characters to the many video games references. On the negative side, I have to say that I had the feeling that in some parts of the novel the rhythm was a bit slow, the battles were a bit repetitive and the story of the main character, despite it's much deeper and more dramatic than the RPO, I found it too predictable. So, I can't say that I've fallen in love with Armada as much I did with Ready Player One, but in general, I enjoyed it a lot. I think the novel Armada is a good science fiction novel, entertaining and fun in equal parts. If you enjoy reading Ready Player One then, Armada could become your next favorite novel! ; D
;D...more

That time happeSome time ago I heard about this book and since then, I had saved on my list of "must read" waiting to find the right time to read it. That time happened to be a week ago, a week in which I've just been totally addicted to its pages. In Ready Player One, Ernest Cline takes us in a near future where the global society is living in a vortex of misery that forces the inhabitants to isolate themselves in a virtual reality in which everything is possible (everything!). The approach of the book seemed to me interesting and bright, and strangely similar to the trend in which it seems that our society is going. But Ernest Cline book's purpose is not to create a too heavy social criticism, quite the contrary, his story is rather an adventure, a quest in which the geek world of video games is mixed with an incredibly imaginative vision. The idea of finding an easter egg hidden in the most famous game in the world creates a fast rhythm in the novel, full of surprises and in which the reader has very little space for feeling bored. I encourage Ernest Cline to write a sequel because honestly, I would like to continue getting further into the world of Oasis and Parzival, Art3mis and Hache.

The truth is that when I finished this book I had many doubts with the rating, I wasn't sure if I had to give it 4 or 3 stars but finally, I decided to give it 3 stars but I think that is 3.5 stars. I will try to explain the reason. During the first pages, I got totally charmed with the story, I got incredibly fast immersed in this strange world between fantasy and post-apocalyptic world. Bipa's character seemed interesting, especially for her contrast between the second most important character, Aer. But the reading spell was broken in the middle of the book. Suddenly the adventurous and fantasy story I thought it became extremely predictable with a trip itinerary that looked more like a board game than a real adventure. I think the author should risk much more with the character experiences because when the plot becomes too predictable, the reader starts to get bored, and the book I thought I could compare to "The Hobbit" became a "child tale". So to be honest, I am not 100% satisfied with the novel, although I must say that Laura Gallego has something powerful in his stories, which is her great imagination.
...more

However, in my humble opinion, The Son of Neptune is the most boring book I read from his series. Throughout the reading of the book, I had always the feeling I had already read this story. The relationship of the characters and the antagonists and the conflicts follow a pattern too repeated in every Riordan book. The characters seem to move round and round like a spinning until they arrive at a final climax that always is too predictable. Sincerely, I think that Rick Riordan is a great young-adult novelist but this last book I read has disappointed me. Although all this, I still encourage all readers who love adventures, fantasy and young adult novel genre to read his books, in general, are entertaining and enjoyable.

Let me explain a little better… I think that he is intelligent not only because he takes advantage of the countless legends, monsters and gods that plague the Greek mythology, but also for the combination that he has created between a current society represented by a New York teenager and the ancient world of Greek mythology. It’s this "cultural crash" I like the most in all his books, the way a teenager has to face an archaic reality which is unknown for him but that is part of his dna. In this second book, Riordan tells us a story based in a myth that most of mythology fans will surely know but which nevertheless it won’t make lose the interest. In general, I think Percy Jackson books are a good youth adult reading and a great way to learn about the myths and legends of the cradle of our civilization.
...more

As noted in the previous book, the enemy that threatens the world is still the god of chaos Apophis, but in this novel, the drama, the adventure, and the battles gain in intensity. I have to say that the saga of the Kane’s is one of my favorites, not only because I love fantasy books, but also because of the clever mix of the modern world represented by the two teenage protagonists with the ancient world of the mysterious Egyptian mythology. So to all those readers who haven’t already discovered the saga I recommend to get into it! ;)

When I was writing this review I have reread the beginning of the book and suddenly I had a great desire to read it again. Platero and I is an excellent book, with a tender and original story about a donkey's life (from birth to death). We are used to read books where the main characters are human but sometimes animals, especially Platero, has an equally or more interesting life than many of us! ;)
I leave you with the initial fragment of the novel (in Spanish) by Juan Ramon Jimenez:
