I received this book in exchange for an honest review and would like to thank the author for giving me the opportunity to read her work.
Let me say first of all that I am not a great fan of mystery novels, as I tend to usually figure out the ending very early on in the plot.
Well, I did think I had it all figured out this time round as well. Oh my God was I wrong!!
This has to be one of the best mystery novel I have read in a long time!!
There are a few elements in the piece that had me do a double take, like the apparent unhealthy relationship between Luke and Melissa as an example, but in the end, if I thought that was twisted well...the ending blew me away and unease I had with the Luke/Melissa relationship just became unimportant in the scheme of things.
Telling you anything more will just give it away, so this will be it for my review.
Needless to say that I was pleasantly surprised!! ...more

Could you tell what the book was about by simply looking at the cover? Well, I could not.
So I turned the first page and read the first word which was the name “Alma” and then the first two sentences…And in those two sentences was the essence of the piece. This was a book about a community of people just like you and me who want to live their lives.
Alma and Arturo Rivera’s arrival to the United States resulted from an accident involving their daughter who was left with an injury that would require a special education school to assist in her recovery, a facility unavailable at home in in Mexico.
My favourite part of this tale lies in the discrepancy of behaviours displayed towards Maribel, Mr and Mrs Rivera’s daughter, as to her recovery and the best way to go about it.
Understandably and also led by a deep guilt, Alma Rivera will be seen as overly protective and will keep Maribel very close. It will be a struggle for her to let Maribel spend time with her only friend, Mayor Toro the son of Rafael and Celia Toro, Mr and Mrs Rivera’s neighbours.
Mayor Toro, a teenage boy undeniably smitten with Maribel will be the only one to understand the key to her recovery, as he alone treats her without looking at an injured person and from then a lovely relationship blossoms.
We are also introduced to other characters such as Benny Quinto “The priest”, Adolfo Angelino “The Boxer”, Quiqueya Solis and Nelia Zafon amongst others who all come with their own story and make “The Book of Unknown Americans” a very rich tale.
I thoroughly enjoyed this piece and would recommend it to all who fancy reading something a little different. Don’t let 2015 finish without reading it!!!...more

I actually finished reading this novel over a week ago and decided to sit on it a little while before writing my review. I guess I was trying to find something wrong with it.
Well, what a waste of a week!!! This book was absolutely flawless...not one wrong step, and is therefore the first book I am awarding a 5 star rating in the Read4Review program.
I absolutely loved the Olive character, her strength and unwavering faith are beautiful traits.
What this novel is also depicting is one of many life's truths, "Do good and good things will come to you".
This has to be one of my favorite reads this year and I have read about 40 very, very good books so far@nanmadore @readwomen2014 #thelegacyofthewatchers
This has to be one of my favorite reads this year and I have read about 40 very, very good books so far. I know 2014 is not over yet but my next read would have to be a hell of a contender (no pun intended ;).
I have seen a few reviews mentioning the saga to be on par with Dan Brown's writings but I personally feel The Legacy of the Watchers is in a league of its own.
As a reader, I was taken to a world of Arabic folklore I knew and still know very little about.
The main character Nadia is recounting what she believes to be children's story, the ones her mother was telling her as a child, not knowing the importance of the information she holds. Those stories will be the key to prevent the impending catastrophe on the world we know today.
I will give you this, those last few lines are not in anyway depicting an extraordinary plot... However, the author is herself an expert storyteller and her love of ancient history bleeds through every single word.
I absolutely loved how Lilith was written. I could nearly feel sorry for her and understand her anger...until I remembered that she was one of the worst kind of evil.
This novel, is a fascinating work of fiction linking present times to 5000 years worth of very well researched history. Who knows...it might just even be all real...
This little gem of a book is now part of my 2014 favourites.
This debut novel will take you on a journey @laurenfsharma @readwomen2014 #tilthewellrunsdry
This little gem of a book is now part of my 2014 favourites.
This debut novel will take you on a journey through to Marcia's life, a young lady born and raised in Trinidad which to all of us would sound like paradise. She however has to deal with issues that are well beyond her young years.
What will stay with me...the feeling of being there. For example the author provides meticulous descriptions of food, smells and spices that are almost palpable while reading, which contrast beautifully with some very difficult topics raised throughout the book.
You cannot help but relate to the characters, and suffice it to say that Marcia's story will resonate with many, it has certainly with me.

Ironically 'Attachments' is the first published novel by Rainbow Rowell and for some reason I decided to read it after 'Eleanor and Park' and 'Fangirl' which are equally both literary chef d'oeuvres (in my books at least).
I tend to go for favorites and non favorites when reviewing but this time i have absolutely NO non favorites.
I loved the pre Y2K setting which took me back to that time of frenzy when we all thought the world was going to end...and it didn't. I loved the characters and how they seemed to cultivate relationships without ever seeing each other...This is so true at least for Beth and Jennifer. Finally, I absolutely loved the idea of believing in love "before" sight: concept the story seems to be centered around, this was beautifully done.
After finishing reading, I can't help but wonder what happens next. I would love to see how life went on for all the characters, even Chris and his guitar. On the other hand, a sequel may spoil it. For now, I will let the story sit with me as it is and cherish it for the little treasure it is.

Orphan Train made it to my list of favorites books which is quite an achievement since I do not have a very big list of favorites. I will probably read it again...and again.
This is a fantastic piece. What I loved about it is that it introduced me to a part of American history I was completely ignorant about. To this day, I do not know if it is a true account however if it is not, I am sure it will have hit home with a lot of people who will recognise themselves in this story.
Fangirl is the second piece by Rainbow Rowell that I have read, #Eleanorandpark being the first one. This was absolutely deliciou@rainbowrowell #Fangirl
Fangirl is the second piece by Rainbow Rowell that I have read, #Eleanorandpark being the first one. This was absolutely delicious reading!!
I was quite impressed by the Cath’s strength of character. She has obvious abandonment issues due to the fact that her mother left her and her twin sister Wren when they were really young.
She seems to be the rock of the family and deal with her father’s emotional breakdowns and her sister’s irresponsible behaviour without getting anything in return. She does not seem to have anyone to rely on once her family has sucked her energy dry.
Her only escape is the fan fiction she writes about the world of Simon Snow, the hero of a series of fantasy books set in a magical world (Ring any bells?).
This certainly helps her keep her sanity and provides her with the love from fans that she feels she is missing from her mother and from Wren who seems to want to break away from the “twin” life. However, Cath will have to realise that she cannot live in this fiction world for long.
This was a really enjoyable read, and there are a lot of elements that I really liked about this piece however I will only name a few:
I really enjoyed the concept of the young girl coming into her own in spite of the issues she is facing and thriving at the end of her journey.
I liked how the author kept it real, with her use the mother/daughter relationship, and how she did not make it into a fairy tale ending, because yes…it does happen.
And lastly, I absolutely loved being introduced to the world of fan fiction. I had not really dabbled with this creative writing concept before so it was nice to discover the world of Simon Snow (homage to J.K. Rowling ‘s Harry Potter’s series ) and some of the pieces within the Fangirl story were absolutely fantastic reads.
I am definitely fully fledged fan of Ms Rowell. ...more

I have just finished this book and I find myself smiling, which was not at all how I felt when I first started reading it.
I am now wowed by it, as it is not that often that you will come through a piece that will grab you to your core. You cannot help but feel really strongly and deeply every single emotion you encounter as you turn one page after another.
I still find myself now wanting to 'b*tchslap Isabel into next week' so that she can wake up and feel the gravity of her actions which she still does not acknowledge in the end.
Tom, has a heart of gold and truly knows the meaning of sacrifice. The ending was a well deserved gift to him.
I think this will stay with me for a while... ...more

There were so many moments that made me laugh and made me sad at the same time. It was like being a surrogate for the main character who apparently could not feel (in the simplest meaning of the term of course).
My favorite moment: The Gregory Peck sequence...evidence that love will make you do the craziest things.
