Reading the tag line- "Heartstopper meets A Knight’s Tale in this queer medieval rom com YA debut about love, friendship, and being brave enough to change the course of history." - I knew there was no way I wasn't going to love it. And to my great joy, it definitely lived up to the hype!
Gwen & Art Are Not in Love is funny and witty, but also heartfelt and emotional. It was surprising in both good and heartbreaking ways, and it made me grin like a fool on more than one occasion. It really was a delight. ...more

I believe this is marketed as a standalone but I really think you need to read Season of Love, Helena Greer's debut novel, before this one. You'll definitely have a better understanding of some of the major characters who play important parts in this story.
That said, I enjoyed this book more than I did SoL. And it made me look at one of the main players in SoL, who also plays a big part in this book, a lot differently. But I really liked the two main characters in this book, Levi and Hannah. I liked getting to see things from both their points of view, as well as the flashbacks. These two had so much history- most of it good, until it wasn't. I'm so glad Levi came back to Carrigan's, they really, really needed to work things out and to make things right between them. There was just too much good and wonderful between them, for it to all end.

Emotional and surprising. Another wonderful addition to the Out of Uniform series- I've enjoyed these books a lot! While all the books have had an emotional element to them, I think this one hit me hardest because of the tragedy surrounding the kids and their parents. Mark was a bit of a tough nut for much of the book, but I still like him! I loved Isaiah. I loved how much he loved the kids and wanted to do whatever he could to make sure they were taken care of. The romance was on the slow side, as Mark tried to keep his distance. I really liked how things ended up working out.
PS- it took me until the end of the book to realize we have met Isaiah previously!!!

You know that meme that makes the rounds every so often, about reading a line in a book that hits you so hard that you have to close the book for a minute and just revel in the beauty that is the author's words? That's how it was for me and A.M. Johnson's words in this book, Meet Me in the Blue. The way she can combine letters to make words and those words into sentences like these...
I had to stop creating windows where there were impenetrable walls. and this... Every memory a map to something hidden between us. and this... Like stripes of sunlight breaking through the storm inside my head, he was there. and okay, one more... I was a thousand dandelion seeds drifting away in the summer heat of his skin.
I mean, come on!!!
"Meet me in the blue," I said. I'll always be here."
Gah, I was done for, as soon as I read those words. Childhood friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes and Ms. Johnson did an incredible job telling Rook and Luka's second chance romance. Meet Me in the Blue is such a poignant, genuine story that really tugged at every heartstring. It's sad and melancholy, but hopeful and sweet and quite endearing. I loved both Luka and Rook, they deserved all the happiness. It may have taken them awhile to get there, but when they finally, really and truly, opened up to each other and shared their feelings, it was wonderful. They are so special....more

Sweert Sunshine! Charlie is such a doll, how could anyone not love him??? This was a sweet friends to lovers romance. Charlie and Misha have been friends forever, but both were pretty oblivious when it came to their feelings for each other. But once Charlie moves in with Misha, those long suppresed feelings finally start showing themselves. I liked that there wasn't a lot of drama with these two. Yes, Charlie had a little bit of a freak out, but it was understandable, considering how he'd been treated in the past by boyfriends. Although how he thought Misha would act that way was a little silly of him. But hey, you're gonna feel how you're gonna feel!

So terrific! This was such a terrific collection of short stories, I had to buy myself a physical copy! I really enjoyed everyone of these stories- some of course more than others, but there were none I didn't like- they were all very entertaining! And yes, I'd love more! But I think each story wrapped up perfectly and I loved that they all came together in the end. Blackout was a great collection of second chance, friends to more, and first loves.
The narrators were all very good. There were just some minor issues, particularly when one of the characters had an accent but the other narrator didn't speak that part with an accent. But overall I think they all did a wonderful job,...more

This was a sweet childhood friends/second chance/best friend's brother romance. Alex and Remy have known each other for years and had one brief moment together before everything changed. Now that they're both in college, they're finally get the chance to explore what's between them. It was a little tough on Alex, having to keep things with Remy a secret from his best friend Bailey, who happens to be Remy's estranged brother. Bailey was a piece of work, to be honest, when it came to his attitude with Remy. But in a way you can't blame him, he was young and his world was turned upside down, and the person he most looked up to in the world wasn't quite the perfect man he thought he was. I wanted Remy and Bailey to work through things, for the good of everyone, but especially for Alex- it was really weighing on him that the two people he cared most about were at odds.
I like Alex and Remy together and the way their relationship progressed. It was a sweet romance and they deserved the happiness they found with each other. ...more

10 years after their friendship ended, Beck and Christian are reunited and it feels so good! Beck is feeling some kind of way about his motocross career, and having been outed/outed himself, which leads to him reaching out to his old best friend, Christian. Things were a little awkward between them when Christian first arrived, they had to get to know each other as men instead of teenagers, but they quickly got back to that place of comfort they used to share. I really liked these guys, and was so happy they found their way back to each other. It made me sad thinking of all the years they lost, but there's still so much they have to look forward to!...more

I think I might have highlighted more passages in this book than I did in all the books I read in 2021 combined. It would have probably been easier to just highlight the entire book. I laughed out loud so many times, this book made me so happy. I loved all the quirky characters who made this story go 'round. For as silly and wacky and hilarious as this story was, there were also some really tender moments between Valentine and Bonny. And some great moments of self-discovery for Valentine. This is a tough one. I liked the idea of the story more than the actual execution of it. There was a whole lot of telling and not much showing, which made The Gift That Keeps on Taking feel longer than it actually was. It would have benefitted from a/nother beta reader, if I'm being honest. The story is told solely in Liam's point of view, and for the majority of the book we're in his head, privvy to his inner thoughts and musings, but with little actual dialogue or interaction between the characters, making it hard to get invested in the story. Especially when it came to his and Christian's relationship. The Gift That Keeps on Taking had all the makings of a really good enemies-to-lovers tale, with the whole families who are best friends aspect, but sadly I just found myself slogging through, to see how things would finally come together for Liam and Christian. ...more

Disclaimer: The "oops I'm pregnant/surprise baby" trope is by far one of my least favorite tropes, especially when it happens at the beginning of a new "relationship"- whether it's a couple that likes each other or falls in the enemies-to-lovers camp, like with Ellie and Gianni. But you know that old saying, if you build it, they will come- if Melanie Harlow writes it, I'll read it. All that being said, I freaking adored this book!
I have so many highlights because of Gianni- he cracked me up and stole my heart! The banter between he and Ellie was so fun and entertaining. I liked getting to know these two through the other's eyes. It was fun to look back on their childhood, and it did not hurt one bit that we got to spend time with their parents, Mia & Lucas (Frenched) and Coco & Nick (Forked).
As much as Ellie tried to fight it, there was no denying the chemistry between her and Gianni. Being stranded together in a blizzard was the perfect storm for that chemistry to finally combust, and boy did it ever! It was also a terrific opportunity for these two to work through the lingering animosity between them. I enjoyed seeing Ellie and Gianni get to really know each other as adults, more than the teaser and the teasee! Past the spark of chemistry, you could tell these two were the perfect match. I loved how everything came together in the end for them, it was sweet and heartwarming, everything I could have wanted. And Mia and Coco are grandmas!!! Who knew that was something I needed in my life!...more

This story was so heartwarming and heartbreaking and sweet and funny - it was everything!!! It was candy canes and pine cones and epic and awesome. It will be my whole personality for the rest of the year. I cannot believe it was Kirk Graves first audiobook, he was fantastic.
