I had problemI had high hopes for this story, since I know this author can write amazing books. But this time it felt like the whole book was rushed. I had problems with the timing, like when Cadence finds out that her whole life she has been lied to. She went from crying to immediately sassy and acted like that moment never happened. It was trippy to say the least and it made me feel like I missed something. I did like Damien a lot tho. He was dare I say perfect. Also the plot wasn't so bad, full of action and romance and we also get a scorching scene. So all in all, I liked it but was expecting more. I hope the next book will be a bit more put together. ...more

Well that for sure was a fun, short read that left me wanting for more. That cliffhanger at the end, I tell ya, did not like it at all. Now all I want to know is what happens next. I've read more than thousand mangas and it never gets old. I love the artists style for this one and the story itself is not bad. It definitely keeps my attention. Although I find the heroine a bit naive, but overall not dull. Not to mention the hot new guy. I guess I will just have to wait for the next volume to find out what's next in the store for these two. ...more

This book was quite all right and I liked it but I don't think I'm going to continue reading the rest of the series. Why? Well some parts of the plot were just too slow for me and I just wished more from her potential lovers. I adored Tye and Shade but Coal and River were just mean jerks that had their walls so high up that I do doubt Lera will ever be able to tear them down. Other than that I liked the plot for the most part, it's fresh and has a lot of potential. I also liked Lera's character. She was fun and brave when needed. I do wonder how she'll evolve in the next book. Maybe I'll read it but it for sure won't be right now. ...more

I didWhen I saw the cover and then read the blurb I thought "OK, it's not everyday that you get to read a book like this one" and so I gave it a try. I didn't really know what to expect but the story was more "normal" than what I thought it would be, with all the kraken creatures and the new world. I mean, I did wonder how they would have intimacy but it turned out pretty all right, well at least for the situation they were in. I don't know, it didn't weird me out or anything. So that's a good sign, right? As far as the plot, it did get slightly boring at times and the ending felt a bit underwhelmind, at least to me. I just wanted more from the story and characters. I didn't love them but I also didn't dislike them. To be honest the book was just on OK read for me. Not amazing but also not bad. I don't know, maybe some readers will love it, so I guess it's better to give it a try yourself and perhaps you'll like the story more than me.

Usually we get smut and OTT heroes with no drama what-so-ever. But in this story I think it was great to see some plot twists that at times made me feel mad and at the same time sad for all the main characters. It had more depth and made the story more interesting - not that I mind the usual fun and hot stories from this author. I was just in the right head space to read this story and that made me like it more than the other AR books. I wonder, if AR is thinking of making more stories with such plot twists because I think I'd really enjoy them. Afterall, who doesn't from time to time want to read a controversial storyline. ...more
It's been awhile since I've last read a PNR book, and a good one at that. So when I read the blurb for this one, I thought it would be just DNF at 73%
It's been awhile since I've last read a PNR book, and a good one at that. So when I read the blurb for this one, I thought it would be just what I was looking for. But sadly, nope, no such luck. It all started out fine and I was excited for the story to slowly pick up. And don't get me wrong, I liked the plot but the problem for me were the characters. I mean, I did get some of them and their personalities didn't bother me much, like with Destroy, he's actually one of my favourite characters in this book. The problem that I was having, especially with Carolena's character, was after the 50% mark. Boy oh boy, was she a push over. Seriously, the main reason why I gave up on the entire story was because of her! I just coulnd't stand her weak, goody, whimsy and self-righteous character anymore. Thank God I've got low blood preasure, because she sure did bring it right back up. At least she was good for something! [image]
And let's not forget about Carnage, the man / Gargoyle himself. Yeah, they make a perfect couple. One, who's head is always in the clouds and one, who doesn't know the first thing about good communication - and by that I don't mean that he has some speech problems, what I mean is that maybe, I mean just maybe, he could have said at least something before leaving his 'claimed' woman alone for days. Like, come on! Had it been me, I wouldn't give a rat's ass about your reasons, you'd just be gone from my life, all right!
Now I will admit, there were times where I almost wished Enthrall would get the woman but then again I'm not so mean to bring such unfortune upon the poor pall. I'm sure the future holds something or better said someone better out for him. The same with Destroy. I've got a good feeling about him and his story. So maybe I'll give his book a try but definitely not at the moment. I first need to recover from all this bullshit that went on in this book. And with that, I rest my case! You do what you want with it, I'mma go get me a better PNR story to read.

Got to say I received a complimentary copy of this book from Thomas Nelson through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Got to say that I'm pleasantly surprised by this book. It was quite good actually and I really liked the heroine, Rhen and the whole concept of the story. When I first read the blurb my first though was that the story was going to be something similar to The Hunger Games and there was some resemblance to it, with the game and the oppression, but not as much as I thought it would be. In the end that was a huge plus, since otherwise I think the plot would be a bit boring to read. Aside from that the plot is much more focused on Rhen, her mother's sickness and how to find a cure to save her. In the end the only hope for Rhen to save her mother is by breaking tradition and entering a game to win a scholarship that would later on give her the means to create said cure.
The romance aspect of the story was all right, but to me it didn't feel like it was the center of the story. Which made the story better for me, as a reader. Lute was a cute character and I really grew to like him, sadly I can't say the same for Vincent. Now, he was just a terrible boy and he deserved everything that came his way. Beside those two I also was quite fond of Rhen's counsin, Seleni and Mr. Holm. To me, Seleni felt like Rhen's other half. Both go though thick and thin together, no matter the consequences. I really loved that. They were more like real sisters than cousins. And as for Mr. Holm, let's just say that there is more to this character than meets the eye. This character brings all the elements of magic with him.
Last but not least, is my favourite character and that obviously has to be Rhen. She was such a strong yet gentle character that one couldn't help but fall in love with. Her mind preceded her time and it was so great to see a girl in those times breaking the norm. She stood up for herself and her loved ones and if she had to break a few rules, so be it. You could say she was the black sheep of the society and she was at the same time also, at least for me, the beginning of a new era where woman's rights would exist and be heard.
All in all, this is a great story with strong characters and a great plot. It's also a quick read, so why not give it a chance... ...more

Since this is such a short story, I'm not giving away any spoilers. And for a novella and an Amazon freebie, this story is actually quite intriguing and dark and also just a great build up for the full lenght story. It's not your typical romance book, it's more of a K. Webster type of a book. So you know that you're in for a dark and f*** up ride. Not that I mind. I just wish the second book was out already. It's said to be released in 2018, so there's still hope we'll get it this year. ...more

You kinda know the base of the story but there's always an exciting element to a newly told story. And since this book is a bit longer than most re-tellings I thought I was in for a great read. And I did like the story until the 60% mark. Then things just became a bit anticlimatic for me. In the beginning the author included great details and I could connect to the characters. But nearing the end of the story I lost that connection, since it felt like the author rushed the ending and the emotional state of the characters. Especially about Spencer near the end of the story. I just missed more details. More thoughts on why and how Ruby started to see the beast in a new light, since she wasn't exactly fan of his and his actions.I think that would've made it more believable to me. Also, I just couldn't really warm up to Ruby's character. At times she really was behaving like a brat and it sure made me dislike her even more. Thankfully the same can't be said about Lincoln. I really liked his character. He was scarred by life and my heart just broke for him. I'm glad he got his happiness, he really deserved it. There was not enough explanation and logical thread to the story and the characters actions. Not to mention the epilogue. It felt like a was reading a biography without a hint of emotion. They were just stated facts, one after another and it left me with an unpleasant feeling. Not what you'd expect from a romantic book ending. I just wished for a smoother ride, that's all. That being said, the story's not bad but it's also not one that wowed me... ...more

And, I'm not done yet, ha!, while he's having sex with that bitch, Ethan sees Merit, wishes and hopes she came to him to take the bitches place and at the end even get's so disapponted that that didn't happen. Now, call me whatever you want, BUT when I see that kind of shit in the book I'm reading...I'M DONE!!!

The sad part is that I really liked the plot, otherwise. I mean, reaaaly liked it. And to think that I've wasted so much precious time on finding and then actually reading this story... The hours I'm never getting back... Tragic...
I feel like I read nothing but PNR these days. And I like it. So, when I saw that Alexa Riley wrote a PNR book I just had to read it. The story still I feel like I read nothing but PNR these days. But what's new in this story is the whole PNR aspect. There were some original traits to vapire lifestyle . What I wished the authors did differently was the ending. There was no epilogue, not really. And also, where's the clousure, what happens to the hunter? So that was a bummer. But oh well... I still liked the story. It's sweet, quick and enjoyable. I cannot wait for the next PNR books from this author.

First off, I got this book since the plot sounded interesting and also because it's currently free on Amazon. Now, I should have known something was not right when I saw that it was for free, but I somehow convinced myself to give this story a chance. Well...I should've listened to my gut feeling.
But first let me tell you the tings that I did like about this book. I trully loved how Liam's feelings for Sara started to grow and their love was just so OTT. And I'm glad there was no break-up between them. That would've sucked, since this is a PNR story, where everything is allowed in love and war. If you like to read about a hot, possessive, totally OTT hero that would kill to protect his love, then Liam is the one for you. I wished there were more books with heroes like him. Beside him, I also liked his friends. They were cool and just what you'd expect from a frat boy.

Sadly, the last two books that I've read were by Nalini Singh and Suzanne Wright. So that means my expectations were high for this author and her writing style. Sadly they were too high...

And let me tell you why... As good as the plot sounded, the execution of it was just not that great. It all happened either too fast (the beginning and the ending) or too slow (the whole vampire thing and how to solve the BIG problem). Also, at times the characters were really immature, especially with the bitter exes, and I often wondered, if maybe it was just me being too old to read a book like this one. But whatever the reason, one thing is for sure, I did not like the characters as much as I wanted them to. Another thing that bothered me was that the whole pace of the story was just off. I felt like sometimes we skipped from one scene to another, so the natural flow of the story felt too disconnected to me. I wished the author had taken her time to include more details about what was happening in general. The saving grace was David and his knowledge of vampires. I'm sure I would be completely lost without him explaining things. He was like Yoda from Star wars.

Overall, would I re-read this book? No. Would I recommend it? Maybe. If you have time on your hands and don't know what to read next, then this one might be for you. It's just the right amount of fluffy, stupid and interesting. I know, a killer combination, lol. But if nothing else, it will make your evening slightly better. ...more

I can now proudly say that I've finally finished this story. Not because it was bad, but because I don't have time to read books anymore, at least not the way I used to. I know, these are sad days. :(
As for what I think of the book, I think it's super sweet and it touches a more sensitive topic and that is psychical abuse. I felt bad for both main characters, since they both had to go through something no one should ever go through and that is to not have a free will to speak out and to be accepted as you are. Which is such a shame and it's still not talked about enough today. We all know what's on the news these days, so being repressed and ingnored can have a devastating impact on ones personality.
Anyway, back to the story. It's as said super sweet, almost at times too much for me. But overall it's a nice, cozy read that gives you those happy readers feelings. It's a wonderful journey that one should read, for sure. ...more
