I just lost the buildup and tension that happens while we read about them falling head over heels in love. We didn't get a lot of Beck and Jacobs in the first book in this series, Straight A's and Power Plays but we learn enough to walk into this story with happy vibes on where this will lead. And let me tell you, Eden Finley and Saxon James did not disappoint!! This book is filled with so much goodness that its hard to put it all into words. There is humor and snark and clever word play. There is some great communication between Beck and Jacobs as so much delicious tension as they fought against their feelings all while hurtling towards their HEA.
FACE OFFS & CHEAP SHOTS is one of my favorite reads of the year. My cheeks hurt from smiling and laughing and it made my heart ache in all the best possible of ways. I found this story impossible to put down and knew once I started reading it that I wouldn't be able to stop until I reached the end. Which was a bittersweet moment as I loved that Beck and Jacobs get their well earned HEA but I hated that the story had to come to an end.
But part of what really sells this story was the amazing cast of secondary characters - Beck and Jacob's friends and teammates really just help to flesh out this world and story. Cohen especially stole the show in every seen that he was in and I hope that one day we get a story that is dedicated to him. FACE OFFS & CHEAP SHOTS is sweet and sexy and fun all wrapped up in a happy, angsty bow of awesome. You don't want to miss this one!...more

After all, EAfter reading the first book in this series, One and Only, I was curious to see how the wedding trope would be continued in It Takes Two. After all, Elise was married and Wendy was still very much single at the end of book 1 so I knew that it wasn't set around the same time. Flash forward a year (give or take a few months) and we have an entirely different wedding but the same tropes and I was equally excited for another sibling and best friend book. Noah is Jane's older brother and he and Wendy have been orbiting around each other for YEARS - most of it filled with animosity and general avoidance after the big thing that happened when they were young that caused Wendy to stop crushing on Noah and start actively disliking him instead.
As you can expect, Noah is mostly clueless as to why Wendy's attitude towards him has changed and so there are several missed opportunities for them both to communicate. But overall there are lots of sparks between these two. Unfortunately, there was a lot more telling than showing when it came to their relationship. It seemed like Noah would try for more but Wendy was always pushing him away. But what bugged me most is that they never really seemed to talk or hang out. They'd meet, engage in sexy times, and then Wendy was tossing Noah out on his keester. I wish there was more of them growing and coming together and naturally falling in love instead it all seemed a little forced. So while I liked It Takes Two, I didn't love it as much as One and Only. ...more
I received an early copy of One and Only and I was very excited to read it as it contained one of my favorite tropes - the best friend and a sibling. I received an early copy of One and Only and I was very excited to read it as it contained one of my favorite tropes - the best friend and a sibling. In this case, it was the BFF of the bride and the brother of the bride's groom. Cameron and his brother weren't close growing up and Cameron had a bit of a wild side but there was also a lot that Cameron didn't reveal to his brother. So his brother had a lot of misconceptions which lead him to be worried on how Cameron would act in the days leading up to his wedding. Enter Jane. Good old reliable Jane. Jane who is an author and works from home and is often taken advantage of by her friends who don't understand that writing is every bit a full time job as a 9-5 office job.
I was a bit annoyed at Jane's friends as they placed her in this box and refused to let her break free of it as it would impact their lives and the things she did for them too much. Jane was the reliable one, the planner, the caretaker....so if she was around they didn't have to do anything which Jane didn't always seem to mind but it could be a drain. Which is why I loved Cameron for her. Cameron had such an open and spontaneous personality that he was the perfect yin to Jane's yang. He complemented her and helped her to break out of her shell. Although, I must admit, it took me a bit to warm up to Cameron as he was very judgmental at first basing opinions on appearance and so I was really glad to see how Jane changed in his eyes as he got to know her.
One and Only was a fun story. It was filled with laughs and geekiness and two people who were total opposites but who were also so perfect for each other. I loved their journey and once I started this book I hard a hard time to put it down. If you like a fun contemporary romance then this is definitely one that you want on your list! ...more
