I wasn't really sure what to expect from this installment in the Vino & Veritas series and while this one was a quick read with many feels there was just something about it that didn't click with me. I really enjoyed these two MCs and their love story but kind felt that once they met each other that almost every other character fell by the wayside. It felt very siloed. However, I did like how LA Witt handled the issues of these two broken men and how she helped to heal them both by finding the other. I was also glad that this one was over 300 pages as so many in this series have felt short and rushed which gave plenty of time for character and plot development. Overall, a good read but not my favorite in the series. ...more

It was really I really like Dali when we first meet her and Jim was always an interesting character so I was excited for this novella featuring them. It was really well done and I love the story that Ilona Andrews crated for them. It highlighted Dalis strengths and showed a softer side to Jim. I also liked the secondary characters and would love to see more of Dali’s mother in future books. Where this fell short was the ending - it was much to abrupt and had me asking “that’s it?” It felt unfinished...so hopefully we get to see more of their story as secondary character in the main series. ...more

I have been eager for another Colleen Clayton book ever since I read her book and I wanted to devour this one the moment it landed on my kindle. Only I held off because once I read it then it would be over and that would make me sad. But once I started to read Doll Hearts I couldn't put it down. This book is real and raw but also sweet and hear warming.
Julianne isn't having the best start to her summer, she's diabetic and her mom is dealing with mental health issues that manifest in the form of holding. Julianne just wants to help her mom and have the perfect summer but her dad has other plans. Soon she finds herself living on a small island over an hour from home at loose ends until she starts working at Cedar Point and hanging out with Brandon Wright. Julianne is torn between acting like an adult to save her mother and with being a normal 17 year old. I loved how real this book was and I loved how Clayton dealt with not only Julianne's diabetics but the strained dynamics with her parents. The swoony romance didn't hurt either.
Doll Hearts is a great read for summer and will have you wanting to rush out to the nearest amusement park....though you probably won't want to work in on. As a reader, its easy to relate to the various characters in the books and they all feel like long lost friends and family. This book is great to take with you to the beach and one that is sure to touch your heart with feels. ...more
