Normally NR Walker is a one-click buy for me, but I might need to switch back to Kindle Unlimited instead. The dialogue is really struggling, and I'm hoping that's just a natural result of the characters being very flat. Still going to look forward to whatever NR Walker puts out next, just majorly disappointed with this one.

No rating, because this is my own fault for not thinking through the trigger warnings. Please absolutely definitely heed the content warnings, as the story begins with a sexual encounter between a priest and a seminary student (which is presented as consensual, but there is a power dynamic there that some would take issue with and it is presented as the student 'seducing' the priest). ...more

We'd reached the halfway point without sex, unlike The Silent Mountain Man. Don't worry, only a couple of pages later a virgin was begging to lose his virginity after his first kiss with a guy he met like a week ago. DNF. I think this author just isn't for me. ...more

The old version of this book is one of my absolute favorites by this author. While I totally understand why they wanted to refresh it and transform everything into a new series, I think my expectations were too high and my love for the original series was too much in this case! I'm really looking forward to reading the rest of this new series, since I have less strong affection for the original versions of the others. I will say that the images on the cover feel like they are for MMCs from some other book, and there are numerous inconsistencies that simply don't make sense with the new location. I wish that the author created a new fictional location instead of trying to make Savannah into Cherry Creek. Either way, if you haven't read the first one, you might find plenty to enjoy here! ...more

I think this marks the end of Roe Horvat being an auto-preorder for me. There was so little character development and plot that I ended up skipping around to confirm this just wasn't for me. I feel a little bad reviewing it since I think it's clear that the author and I are not a good match, as others seemed to enjoy the book more. I didn't quite jive with the writing style, so little things stood out that I could normally look over. Organic water doesn't exist, for example (which might be the point? but that wasn't clear).
The writing is also not quite to my taste, but you might enjoy it.
“No.” I leaned back in my chair as a tendril of his scent wafted over me. Faint cinnamon. Like the cereal I once preferred in early childhood when I was still happy, when I was naïve to the ways of the world.
I had a quick image of the two of us, hands locked, bodies made of wind, soaring down, down until we lost our senses.
I had to check out once one of the MMCs removed a vent in his office while standing on a chair (this office must have short ceilings) to clean it because he was looking for the scent of the other MMC. Not for me, unfortunately, and I might have to check out of this series entirely because the first book was also not a good fit. It's a shame because I love the concept of the series :(...more

I think I can see why people like this book, but it was deeply not for me. I should have gone with my instincts and dnf-d earlier on during the "smol bean" fest, which features quotes like:
She's tiny. If it weren't for the soft curves pressing against her pale pink ski jacket, I wouldn't even think she's old enough to drive.
She's pretty petite!
She's tiny, probably barely five feet.
I'm starting to get the feeling she's small...

Huh

In the first five pages -One character is day drinking so much she puts her car keys in the microwave sometimes (after driving home? from day drinking?) -The owner of a shop leaves a wine bar to go to work after drinking with a full bottle of wine in hand -We meet another shop owner who pours out half her coffee to fill it with whiskey
It feels a lot like your friend who just turned 21 talking about how much they love to drink (or I suppose it feels like I should be deeply concerned for the livers of these townspeople). Petty reason to dnf, but not for me right now (and it doesn't seem like I'm missing out on much based on the other reviews). ...more

Quality of writing and proofreading is below what I would expect for a book on kindle unlimited, let alone one that costs $3.99 to read. On the first page alone there are glaring errors that make the book confusing and unreadable (“I’d pulled up and stared at the two the lone car parked in front of the house.”). I know that some people are not bothered by spelling errors and minor things like that, but it’s important that you know going into this that the problems are not just minor spelling errors, they are bigger things like a lack of distinction between characters in dialogue, words added into sentences that change the meaning and make it confusing, etc. I normally do not include a star rating with books that I DNF, but I am rating this book one star to reflect the poor quality of the editing and writing. ...more
