Ultimately, I liked this one. Some things felt a little repetitive (ie, I'm so tired of pretending), and I was surprised when she was surprised by some of the revelations. I had no idea she was thinking what she was thinking when she was thinking it. Some of the conclusions she arrived at never even crossed my mind. Aside from that, I was interested in where things were going and are continuing to go. I really ended up liking the characters, despite feeling like Signa may not have been the brightest when it came to her detectiving. Book 2 is already on my holds list!...more

I love how T J Klune makes the best of flawed people in difficult situations. This is only my second book by him (the first being The House in the Cerulean Sea), but there's such a sweet and whimsical way to his writing. Looking forward to reading more! ...more

It was a perfect sequel and conclusion. I'm really happy I decided to take the plunge. It's such a unique magic system and world, and I ended up growing attached to most of the characters (though Elspeth is still my least favorite of the group). Even grew a tiny bit choked up by the conclusion....more

No real review for this one. We're driving, and I just don't have a strong opinion. I didn't dislike it. There were parts I enjoyed, but at the end of the day, it was just okay. There. That's it. Oh, and I did really like the buzzards. They didn't play a huge role, but there was some character there....more

I enjoyed the lore and, honestly, The Nightmare. That part of the story worked for me. However, I don't know if it was due to the narrator or what, but I never warmed up to Elspeth. It may be because secret keeping is a pet peeve of mine, and she definitely reached a point where she should have revealed more but refused, that irked me. The whole "magic has a cost" deal, but everyone seemed to use their magic willy nilly. Elspeth always crying out for Nightmare, even though she supposedly hates having him in her head. I don't know. There were just things that bothered me, ya know?
With that being said, I wouldn't mind reading the conclusion. Not that I have a burning desire to do so, but if I can get ahold of the next audiobook, I'll listen to it. ...more

He has a copy I can borrow, so this was put back onto the list. Plus, he said it has some amazing artwork I would have missed had I just listened to it. Yay for brothers!...more

That's my daughter's genre, not mine, but now I am soooo tempted to give this a go. I've not read the HP books (no interest in them), but I have watched the movies and could definitely go for Draco centric book. Plus, these reviews really sell it. Against everything in my brain telling me, "No, you do NOT read fan fiction!!!", I'm adding this to my TBR for one day.......more
