Conrad + Ghost Girl 4 ever
I'm flagging this book for some problematic/TW things because of how Conrad treats Neomi at times - he screams at her, really verbally abusing her. He is in the midst of madness and withdrawal so I understood but especially in the audiobook version I can see how it'd be disturbing to some people....more

This book just crushed 2 preconceived notions I had: 1. That I don't like audiobooks 2. That this series didn't work for me
I originally purchased the physical version of books 1-14(ish) back in 2020-2021 and read books 1-3 of the series for the #massmarketmay 2021 challenge. I didn't love the books enough to continue.
On a whim after getting an LA library card and getting access to Libby, I downloaded this book and started it ONLY because it was only 4 hours (a novella). IT WAS SO GOOD.
Part of it is Robert Petkoff, the amazing narrator, but the other part is that... Nikolai and Myst are just so fun. Myst is a super old and powerful Valkyrie nicknamed "Myst the Coveted" - thought to be the most beautiful Valkyrie. The power she displays after her sisters come to bust her out is... startling, hilarious, badass.
This book made me continue the series, and honestly I'd say it's 60/40 Kresley Cole for writing is and Robert Petkoff for reading it to me. ...more

I totally get what the author was trying to do by showing a different sort of relationship in a romance book... but it ultimately left me just feeling really... sad. The hero is mean. He's not an alphahole - he's just plain mean. He plays games with the heroine and the two of them sleep with others. And I guess there can be relationships where people do this but for me... it just feels wrong. Especially because the heroine was so hurt by it. A really rough read and one I was thinking about for days after like, "did they get a HEA? are they happy??"...more

Similar to my last read, this one had a lot of potential. Its set on a post-apocalyptic Earth where people are pretty desperate due to a failing economy. The main character, Nessa, gets a job at a mysterious hotel "making deliveries" to guests. Enter, a few human friends. A mysterious masked guest. And lots of questions.
My biggest issue with the book was there were too many infodump passages for me. It seemed like a few times throughout the book we got either a huge monologue or an internal self reflection to go through what was going on in the world. It was a tad confusing but overall just kind of... boring. Because things were told so "x, y, z" I didn't feel attached to the characters or the stakes of the book. Which stinks, because Lannis (the hero) is super interesting!
Nessa (the heroine) is a bit of a Mary Jane. And the lack of relationship development really didn't give stakes to the love story. So overall, not for me....more

I think the story had a lot of potential but I had a lot of questions that seemed to be resolved in one big infodump at the end. Also, he's a spider but spends the entire book (his time with her) in human form. C'mon! Monsters are fun! ...more

The heroine is super pregnant, and the hero becomes her "surrogate alpha" for the end of her pregnancy to keep her... satisfied.
Maybe it's because I'm currently 9 months pregnant, but this just felt so strange. The reasoning behind it was OMEGAS in heat are insatiable and need a lot of sex but all I could think was, God that sounds horrible and exhausting.
Overall, I thought the relationship development in the book was lacking. I wish there had been more time before the baby was born, or more hints of the relationship developing between them, because by the time the baby was born I just didn't fully buy into it! ...more

She's looking to profit off her, ahem, slick (literally what it's called!) and so she goes around testosterone-high alpha's to get off on their growl and then... sell her wet panties. LITERALLY.
She meets the hero, Tjor, because she causes him to become distracted and lose a cage fight. He chases her down for the money he lost and accidentally beats up her bodyguards... then gets persuaded to help her out by taking her home and becoming her business partner. He already deals suppressants to alphas - why not add her wet panties to the mix?
The way these two tease each other throughout the book is so freaking cute. They antagonize each other, and she truly isn't afraid of him - she baits him AND shows him he's a good person and a good alpha. ...more

From what I can gather, there are alien planets with alphas/ betas/ omegas of different species... but there are also "Terran" people... or people from Earth.
Somehow, the heroine Elli winds up in some kind of wormhole and crashes on an alien planet as she - an omega - goes into heat. Enter a scarred alpha who she requests to see her through her heat. Cue steam... steam... steam.

Tavak has had a rough life. After he and his brother were abandoned by his mother as children, he did whatever he could to keep them fed and safe - including selling his body. For the past 10 years he and his brother were trapped servicing human clients in a brothel, and having recently escaped he actually planned to be celibate for the rest of his life - he's never had sex because HE wanted to, he isn't sure he knows how.
Enter Stella, a friendly human who's taken with him. And, unwillingly, he begins to be intrigued by her.
They face a lot of issues, because she's human and it brings back some bad feelings in him - again, totally understandable and realistic.
Tavak is definitely someone whose love language is acts of service - he isn't able to open up to Stella, he doesn't know how to... and he worries she'll look at him with pity or disgust because of his past.
