This time around, I got so much more out of it. Lamott captures the joy of writing, as well as talking readers through the hard stuff, like writers' block and plain old fear. As I hit the pandemic wall, the combination of tough love and hope in this book was helpful. I am not an author by profession, but I do have to write a lot for my job. And as a reader, I love to write reviews and engage with other readers through that.
If you want solid writing tips, or you just want to pull back the curtain on the writing life, this book is excellent. It's a good reference, but full of life lessons and interested stories as well. Several times as I read this, I found myself thinking that I would have liked to be one of Lamott's writing students....more
