Jackson Katz
“I draw a line down the middle of a chalkboard, sketching a male symbol on one side and a female symbol on the other. Then I ask just the men: What steps do you guys take, on a daily basis, to prevent yourselves from being sexually assaulted? At first there is a kind of awkward silence as the men try to figure out if they've been asked a trick question. The silence gives way to a smattering of nervous laughter. Occasionally, a young a guy will raise his hand and say, 'I stay out of prison.' This is typically followed by another moment of laughter, before someone finally raises his hand and soberly states, 'Nothing. I don't think about it.' Then I ask women the same question. What steps do you take on a daily basis to prevent yourselves from being sexually assaulted? Women throughout the audience immediately start raising their hands. As the men sit in stunned silence, the women recount safety precautions they take as part of their daily routine. Here are some of their answers: Hold my keys as a potential weapon. Look in the back seat of the car before getting in. Carry a cell phone. Don't go jogging at night. Lock all the windows when I sleep, even on hot summer nights. Be careful not to drink too much. Don't put my drink down and come back to it; make sure I see it being poured. Own a big dog. Carry Mace or pepper spray. Have an unlisted phone number. Have a man's voice on my answering machine. Park in well-lit areas. Don't use parking garages. Don't get on elevators with only one man, or with a group of men. Vary my route home from work. Watch what I wear. Don't use highway rest areas. Use a home alarm system. Don't wear headphones when jogging. Avoid forests or wooded areas, even in the daytime. Don't take a first-floor apartment. Go out in groups. Own a firearm. Meet men on first dates in public places. Make sure to have a car or cab fare. Don't make eye contact with men on the street. Make assertive eye contact with men on the street.”

“Gender bias does worldwide damage. It’s a cause of low productivity on farms. It’s a source of poverty and disease. It’s at the core of social customs that keep women down.”
Melinda Gates, The Moment of Lift: How Empowering Women Changes the World

Caroline Criado Pérez
“Several studies have found that the more a field is culturally understood to require 'brilliance' or 'raw talent' to succeed - think philosophy, maths, physics, music composition, computer science - the fewer women there will be studying and working in it. We just don't see women as naturally brilliant.”
Caroline Criado Perez, Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men

“At times I am flabbergasted that my memory is considered false and my alcoholic father's memory is considered rational and sane.

Am I not believed because I am a woman?

If Peter Freyd were a man who lived in my neighborhood during my childhood instead of my father, would he and his wife be so believable? If not, what is it about his status as my father that makes him more credible?”
Jennifer J. Freyd

“Students want female teachers to be warm and nurturing. When they aren't, they get marked down across the board for being 'bitches." What's a bitch? A woman who acts like a confident guy. Women are also not allowed to be dry or funny. You can imagine how my Asperger's can go over.”
Jessica Wildfire, Professor Gone Wild

Nicky Verd
“If you've been betrayed by someone. For your own sanity, associate the problem with the individual and not with the gender.”
Nicky Verd

“How a man values
a woman's virginity
Is not exactly how
the woman may see it
//redefining honor”
Vineet Raj Kapoor

“And if boys enjoy books about aliens, which they certainly do, why not also books about girls?”

“Want to guess what comes up when I Google “Woman discovers”? It’s not “new galaxy.” It’s “a body in her trunk” or "the unthinkable in her attic.” According to my computer search, other big discoveries by women include “her co-worker is her birth mom,” “a Renaissance painting in her kitchen,” and “her new home was once a meth lab.” Hey, at least that one contains the word “lab.”

“Forgive me, Lord, for being sharp to a man who sought only to assist me. I ask for your help in being patient with those who believe women helpless.”
Ted Chiang, Omphalos

“Some people still say, women belong in the kitchen. By that same logic, men belong in the jungle.”

“The U.S. Census Bureau considers mothers the "designated parent," even when both parents are present in the home. When mothers care for their children, it's "parenting," but when fathers care for their children, the government deems it a "child care arrangement." I have even heard a few men say that they are heading home to "babysit" for their children. I have never heard a woman refer to taking care of her own children as "babysitting." A friend of mine ran a team-building exercise during a company retreat where people were asked to fill in their hobbies. Half of the men in the group listed "their children" as hobbies. A hobby? For most mothers, kids are not a hobby. Showering is a hobby.”
Sheryl Sandberg

“...there is a particular focus of the problem faced only by men. It arises from our culture providing no room for a man as victim.”
Mike Lew, Victims No Longer: Men Recovering from Incest and Other Sexual Child Abuse

Melinda French Gates
“The gender imbalance in unpaid work is such a compelling subject for me in part because it’s a common burden that binds many women together, but also because the causes of the imbalance run so deep that you cannot solve them with a technical fix. You have to renegotiate the relationship. To me, no question is more important than this one: Does your primary relationship have love and respect and reciprocity and a sense of teamwork and belonging and mutual growth? I believe all of us ask ourselves this question in one way or another—because I think it is one of the greatest longings of life.”
Melinda Gates, The Moment of Lift: How Empowering Women Changes the World

“Other than in bed, gender and sexuality have no role in society.”

“If a woman has to look good to be noticed, then such a society is still living in stone-age.”

“Vagina Power (The Sonnet)

There's nothing special about growing balls,
In fact, man-sack is the definition of weakness.
If you wanna grow something, grow a vagina,
For vagina is the epitome of resilience.
There's an organism that goes through hell,
Quite regularly, yet stands strong and brave.
It is the source of all creation everywhere,
Yet all through history it's been kept as slave.
No love can surpass the love of a mother,
No care can surpass a sister's care.
Yet a society run by balls and bananas,
Makes a hooker out of our mothers and sisters.
Worship of balls is but a prehistoric mania.
There will be no balls without a vagina.”

John Matteson
“Unfortunately, though, even in our own time, the stigma that can attach to the cleverest person in the room sometimes intensifies if that person happens to be a woman. To imagine that Fuller could conduct herself as she did and never run afoul of gender prejudice is fanciful. To suppose that such biases were alone responsible for her troubles is equally so.”
John Matteson, The Lives of Margaret Fuller

“Not woman, not man, not the non-binary,
no gender is able enough to sustain progress and harmony.
To make sure that we grow and stand tall with dignity,
all humans, no matter the gender, must rise together with humanity.”
Abhijit Naskar, See No Gender

“The ultimate purpose of the struggle for gender fluidity and equality ought to be to turn gender irrelevant in society, not to obsess over it for eternity.”

“Leap Beyond Libido (The Sonnet)

Brotherhood won't do,
Nor will sisterhood.
What the world really needs,
Is a sense of humanhood.
So long as gender lingers,
In the behavior of human.
We'll not have a society,
Free from sexualization.
Genitalia have no role in society,
Other than in bed.
When you leap beyond libido,
Even a naked body seems sacred.
The body has evolved to crave for release,
But a well-built character is hard to please.”
Abhijit Naskar, Hometown Human: To Live for Soil and Society

“Because female intellect is weaker than men.” Said the elderly scholar.

“Says who, sir?”

“It is written in the hymns.”

“May I ask, who wrote those hymns?”Asked the girl.

“The hymns were written by our forefathers.” Said the elderly scholar.

“By forefathers you mean, our male ancestors?” Asked the girl, again.”

“Women have always been at par with men when it comes to their abilities; it is just that both men and women are gifted differently. Women are more intelligent, while men exhibit traits of being intellectuals. Hypothetically if there is a weighing scale to weigh the abilities of what men can achieve and women can achieve, I am confident that the scale will be balanced. I think creating such awareness will do much good rather than reclaiming something which naturally exists.”
Henrietta Newton Martin - Legal Counsel & Author

“To assume every woman is out to dig for gold,
is not masculinity, it's simian masculinity.
Likewise, to assume every man is a sexist pig,
is not feminism, it's canine femininity.”

“Until recently, career women were frowned upon, and those who stayed at home were respected - now the situation has gotten reversed - not better mark you, just reversed. Now career women are respected, and those who give up their career, or step down to a less demanding position, in order to raise a family, are object of ridicule. This is not progress, it’s recurring regress. Substituting one authoritarian cruelty with another is not progress, it’s recurring regress - which is also the case when you ban hijab in the name of freedom.”
