Miles Family #1

Broken Miles

Rate this book
“She was unraveling me, slowly but surely. I could feel it happening. Like she was gently unbuttoning the collar of a shirt that fit too tight.”

Single-minded drive earned Roland Miles success—and cost him his first love. When his marriage to Zoe ended, he did the only thing he knew. He dove into work to put his heartbreak behind him.

Zoe Sutton’s life hasn’t exactly gone to plan. She certainly didn’t plan on losing Roland or moving home to work for his family’s winery. Four years after their divorce, she wonders if her chance at happily ever after is behind her.

After discovering his family might lose their land, Roland comes home to help sort out the mess. But between his brothers’ antics, a baby sister who’s all grown up, and a father keeping secrets, complicated isn’t even the half of it.

And then there’s Zoe.

He didn’t come home looking for a second chance with her. But the more time they spend together, the more he realizes what they lost. What they could have again.

Because the truth is, they broke each other’s hearts. And maybe they’re the only ones who can put them back together.

Author’s note: A stoic hero who’s soft on the inside. A sassy heroine who doesn’t take any sh*t. Messy family. Lots of shenanigans. Mattress burning bonfires. And a second chance at love with a big HEA.

The Miles Family series are best enjoyed in order.

Broken Miles is the first book in the new series, The Miles Family Series by Claire Kingsley. Do you love second chance romances? If you do, then this is the book for you. You’ll meet the Miles Family who all work at their family run winery, Salishan Cellars, in a small town called Echo Creek in the Cascade Mountains.

This book focuses on the oldest son, Roland. But you will also get to know Leo, the war veteran who seems to be suffering from PTSD, Cooper who is the jokester of the family and who’s specialty is taking care of the fields of grape vines. Then the youngest and only girl, Brynn. Also, Cooper’s best friend and roommate, Chase, who also works at the winery, is a fun secondary character.

Roland and Zoe Sutton had been high school sweethearts. They began dating when they were seventeen years old and eloped when they were twenty. They were madly in love. After grad school, Roland and Zoe moved to San Francisco where he became consumed with work, with making more money and gaining prestige. He succeeded at all these things but lost his wife in the process. After the divorce, Zoe returned to Echo Creek and began working as an Events Coordinator for the winery.

In the four years since the divorce, Roland thinks he has everything. His career is successful, he’s got a fancy condo with a breathtaking view, and everything money can buy. His life revolved around his career. When his brother Leo calls telling him they need him at home, that the winery is in trouble, he’s forced to put everything on hold and make a trip home. He hasn’t been home in at least eighteen months. The reason being that he’s just too busy, not because he knows that “she’s” there. They can be cordial. He’ll go home, help them out for the weekend and be back in San Francisco on Monday morning! But things didn’t work out as he thought.

Zoe did the hardest thing she had ever done four years ago walking away from her marriage. But he also let her go. He didn’t come after her, didn’t fight for her. His career was more important than their marriage. Now, though, he’s here, trying to help his family save the winery. No problem, she can handle it. Even though every time he’s close his scent brings back all kinds of memories.

vineyard

Figuring out the winery’s finances end up being more complicated than Roland planned. So he’s doing his job from San Francisco remotely and trying to help his family figure out their finances at the same time. Essentially, he’s doing two jobs at the same time. He just can’t seem to put his finger on what’s wrong with the winery’s books. Something is off. One week turns into two which turns into three. At the same time, he is given the opportunity to reconnect with his siblings. And then there is Zoe. He can’t seem to be near her without wanting her. She’s his ex-wife. It’s not supposed to be like this. But he can’t deny that the attraction between them is still there.

“She was like a drug I couldn’t quit. And I didn’t know whether it was an addiction that would ultimately be my salvation, or my downfall.”

Hinterland Vineyard/Winery pictures

The longer Zoe and Roland are forced to be together, the more they have to accept the fact that the chemistry is still electric between them. Is that all it is, though, chemistry? Or is it more? Is that deep connection they once shared still alive?

“Just being around her was opening me up, laying me bare. I couldn’t hide from anything when I was with her.”

When I first met Roland at the beginning, I have to admit that it was NOT love at first sight for me. He was arrogant and self centered. Or it seemed that way. The longer he spent at home, though, the more he reverted back to the man he once was, the man Zoe missed, the man he should be. I loved watching the romance rekindle between these two. And finally, Roland realized what he had lost, and figured out that in order to get her back, he was going to have to fight for her. Was it too late? Could he win her back? There are quite a few shocks to the Miles Family as Roland digs into their financial history. But as a family, they come together and they grow stronger. I am in love with Cooper and his friend Chase. They are a total riot. No filters what-so-ever.

This book had lots of laugh out loud banter, some steamy hot sexy scenes, and plenty of sigh worthy sweetness. I am falling for this family and can’t wait to see who’s story is next.

This is my first read by Claire Kingsley and I can definitely say it won’t be my last! I loved this first instalment of the Miles family series! This first book is a second chance romance about Roland Miles and his ex-wife. The truth is though.... this story introduces us to the other Miles family members as well! I found Leo, Cooper and Brynn more intriguing than the actual main couple! Lol!
In other words, I will be continuing on with this series as soon as the next book comes out!!

The Miles family owns a winery, and they find out that the winery is in big trouble financially. In fact, if something isn’t done about it right away; then they may lose it altogether. Roland gets the call to come back home and help the winery get back on their feet! Unfortunately, Roland’s ex-wife works for his family still, and him going back there means he will have to face his past!

So much else goes on in this story. Secrets come out, and I was more than shocked at some of them! I fell in love with Cooper! He was the most entertaining brother! I can’t wait to get his story! I’m also very curious about Leo, and I am really hoping his book will be a Beauty and the Best theme!!!

Anyway, if you are like me and enjoy a great family book with some added passion and loving in it, then give this a go! Thanks again Carol for gifting me a copy! I’m so glad you pointed this one out to me!!

Nothing safe. Ridiculous how he kept the wedding ring because “he knew in his fucked up heart that he will need it again”, how hypocrite, he had OW and he was dating OW when he reunited with h, he did not fight for his “true love”.

"Zoe was the only thing that had ever made me feel whole. When I was with her, the void inside me went away. She filled my empty spaces."

Takes place in Echo Creek, a small town in the Cascade Mountains, where the Miles family owns a winery called Salishan Cellars.
Second chance romance for high school sweethearts who married and then divorced 4 years ago. They were married for 6 years.

Characters
Roland (31, CFO of a company in San Fransisco): he butts heads with his family and hasn't been home to visit them in about 1 1/2 years as he wants to avoid the guilt trip he feels they always lay on him for not being part of the family business. They don't understand how he could just leave, but Roland had bigger dreams than the family winery.
"I was made for bigger things than running a goddamn wine business in a small town out in central nowhere. There was no challenge to it. No risk. And the potential rewards—particularly financially—were much too low for me. Money wasn’t everything, but honestly, it was most things. And I was good at making money. Great, even. I’d made my company a hell of a lot of money in the last several years."

All he feels for the winery is resentment and bitterness, thanks to his dad. In San Fransisco he feels respected, trusted, powerful and he's very rich. He's living his dream......except for the fact that the woman he truly loves is not with him, but rather working at the winery back in Echo Creek, surrounded by his family.

First impression of Roland: workaholic who dreams big. He wants power, money, prestige, a reputation people envy. He feels like his small town family will stifle him and squash his dreams.

Zoe (30, Events Manager at Salishan Cellars): she works at her ex-husbands family winery and is extremely close to his brother Cooper and best friend Chase. She's been seeing a guy for hook-up purposes only, but has realized that she's just settling for something that she doesn't even want because what she wants (her ex) is out of reach.
"I was settling,” I said. “I didn’t want to think of it that way, but that’s what it was. I was settling for something less than I really want.”

First impression of Zoe: she's a romantic at heart and feels it's never too late for someone to find their HEA.

The Story
Roland is summoned back to Echo Creek as the winery is in financial trouble. Once there, Roland has to work with his family to fix the business issues. Additionally, he has to face the hurt, regret and desire he still feels toward his ex-wife.
"She was unraveling me, slowly but surely. I could feel it happening. Like she was gently unbuttoning the collar of a shirt that fit too tight. I could breathe when she was near, yet she still took my breath away.”

On the flip side, Zoe must also deal with her feelings about Roland. She is incredibly attracted to him and still deeply loves him. They each have their own idea of why the marriage ended, but they have never really discussed it together. Maybe now is the time??
"Most people don’t get a second chance when they lose something as precious as you."

These two do not hate each other and are very cordial when in each other's presence. But simmering below all the politeness is some serious chemistry. They have a strong connection and a lot of history. Seeing as they started dating in high school, there were a few small trips down memory lane.....
"The principal caught us making out under the bleachers one day when we were supposed to be in class,” I said. “We both got detention. To get back at him, we broke into his office and had sex on his desk during school hours. But at some point, my ass hit the intercom and turned it on, so the entire school heard us.” 😂😂

Roland & Zoe are passionate and might have a little exhibitionist in them as they don't care where they are or who might see them getting busy. When they need each other, they take care of their needs and it might not always be behind a closed, locked door. They make no apologies for that. 👍

This book introduces the reader to the other members of the Miles family and they all play an integral part in the story. Each sibling will get their own book at some point, and I loved getting attached to them throughout this story (especially Cooper...love him!!).

One of my favorites scenes in the book is the "break-up box" Cooper and Chase give to Zoe. OMG.....these two. ❤ So sweet, and they were so excited to give it to her. 😍
"It’s your break-up box,” Cooper said, sporting a big grin. “We put it together for when you broke up with Van.”
According to these 2 lovable men, here's what a break-up box should contain:
1. Tissues ✅
2. Movie theater butter popcorn ✅
3. An empty bag of M&Ms.....opps
- "Um, this is an empty bag of M&M's.” “Damn it, Chase, did you eat her chocolate?” Cooper asked. “Oh, yeah, I think I did,” Chase said, eying the box. “I meant to replace it, but I guess I forgot.” “God, you’re the worst,” Cooper said. “You owe her chocolate now."
4. Lighter ✅
5. DVD's ✅ (although their choices of Beauty and the Beast and Stepbrother's might not have been the perfect choices. At least they tried!)
6. Coupon good for one free orgasm, no strings attached, from Chase ✅😂

"Cooper and Chase might be goofballs, but they were my goofballs. And I loved knowing they had my back."

Is there anything I don't love about Chase & Cooper? 🤔🤔 Nope! Love them!! When are their books?? I can't wait! I'm already swooning over these two ❤️❤️

Overall
This was an easy book to get lost in. The story flowed well, the characters were easy to root for and I felt their story was believable. The author throws in a few twists as some family dirt is uncovered. I'm sure this dirt will be delved into further in some of the other books. Cooper and Chase bring a great element of humor and I found myself laughing at their antics. This was a fun, engaging book to read and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

POV: told from dual POV
H likable? Yes
h likable? Yes
h virgin? No
First time they kiss: 56%
First time they sleep together: 57%
OW/OM drama? No
H/h cheat? No. Roland has a "girlfriend" in the beginning of the story but honestly it seems like they are just using each other for sex as there is no real intimacy (similar to what Zoe is doing with Van). Both Roland and Zoe are free of any other relationship by the time they have their first kiss.
Steamy? Yes
Did I skip pages? No
How the book made me feel: I laughed several times. It's a pretty light read.
Big secrets? Not between the H/h, but some family secrets come out of the closet and are actually a surprise to all the Miles family.
Did I cry? No
Cliffhanger? No. But, one of the big family secrets was touched upon in the last few pages of the book. It was quickly revealed and resolved, but I have a feeling it's not the last we have heard of this particular item.
How it ends:
Recommend? Yes. Even if second chance tropes are not your thing, you should read it for he entertainment value that Copper and Chase bring. The things out of their mouths were just too funny.

Quotes
“She’s not really dating him,” Cooper said. “He’s just her boycycle.”
“Boycycle?” I asked.
“You know,” Cooper said. “They’re friends, but she takes him for a ride once in a while.”

"A dude can only go so long without blowing his load before he’s basically a danger to society. Whacking it is a public service, if you think about it.”

“I opened a drawer and fished out a half-empty bottle of Jack Daniels. Yeah, I kept a bottle of whiskey in my desk at work. Walk a mile, then judge.”

"I’m going to die here, you know.”
"What?”
“I don’t mean soon,” he said. “I plan to be an old man telling inappropriate stories of my sexual conquests at family reunions. Except I’ll still be smooth as fuck because I’ll get distinguished as I age. I’ll have a really cool hat and cane. It’ll be my signature look, and the hot MILFs in town will come sit on my lap and giggle when I whisper dirty shit in their ears.”

“Jesus, Roland, I knew you needed to get some stuff off your chest, but you don’t have to be a girl about it.”
“I’m pretty sure all I said was I don’t know, and I’m an idiot.”

"I was dry-humping him like a cracked-out monkey in heat, but oh my god he knew how to play my body like an instrument."

“Oh good, we can talk about what an asshole he is?” Zoe said. “I was afraid you liked him, and I needed to watch my mouth.”
I turned to Zoe. “Since when do you watch your mouth?”
"I am excellent at censoring my language,” she said. “Right now is a very bad example.”

I'm not quite half way in and I'm still waiting for anybody I can care about. Roland doesn't really care about anybody, even himself. He's oblivious to the people he supposedly cares about and a weak coward for important things like his family's well-being. He's called in to save the family winery but weeks (literally weeks) later he's still faffing about with requests and suggestions to the father who obviously couldn't care less about the family business. Frankly, there's hints that his dad is stepping out on them altogether and I wouldn't be shocked if he has a side piece he's wasting all his money on. Or even a side family. That everyone puts up with the emotionally distant jerk is annoying and makes them look stupid. That Roland can't pin down the details of their financials in weeks of being on site makes him look incompetent, too, and no, it doesn't excuse the failure that he's still working his regular job during the day.

And Zoe isn't any great win, either. We only really see her being inept at her job and sloppy with her appearance and juvenile with her sister-in-law. Oh, and we know she's the regular booty-call of a jaggoff dude-bro and that's not saying good things either. In the beginning, I wished we knew what happened to their marriage, because so far, it looks like she just took off because she was frustrated and didn't bother communicating to him any of her frustrations. But I can't work up the energy to care any more because none of them are worth spending time with. Maybe when they grow up and gain some priorities that go beyond the selfish and/or stupid?

And it's not helping that I get the feeling we're supposed to like the other siblings but they're childish weasels, self-involved shut-ins, and weepy younglings. So the shenanigans, such as they are, are kind of boring frankly.

So to sum up: a weak plot with shallow characters and a family living past each other. So yeah, one star and I'm relieved to be putting it down.

I have a review policy. Which is weird, I know. It turns out my first stab at it wasn't working out for me, so if you care, you might give it a look.

I didn't care for this primarily due to the heroine. I guess I am a bigger prude than I thought when I lost interest in her when she goes to her booty call boy because she is sexually driven regarding the hero. Plus her booty call is a douche bag of epic proportions. My age is showing. I don't have to have a virginal heroine, but I care as little for a heroine who behaves this way as I do when the hero does.

What makes the story is the bromance between Cooper, the H's younger totally irreverent younger brother, and his best friend Connor. They are hysterical and the banter rings true.

One of the more riveting portions of the book is the mother and father of the Miles children and the devolution of their marriage.

Flash forward to Reckless Miles.

Broken, doesn't mean it can't be fixed...

I have the perfect marriage for me but it is FAR FROM PERFECT. For instance, my hubby agrees with me EVERY TIME we have a "discussion". I don't want him to agree with me, I want him to get as angry as I am so I can yell at him. Now, this might seem a little loose cannon..ish but, I'm a 44-year-old woman with HORMONES!! Sometimes I need a good yell. Hubby, unfortunately, is too nice...or maybe...he's just trying to torture me for being a hormonal shrew??? Anyways, my point is that most relationships have bumps. Sometimes these bumps are little stumbles along the journey, others are mountains and the battle to climb it can leave you broken. But a Broken relationship doesn't have to be broken forever.

I really enjoyed reading Broken Miles and I'm quickly becoming a fan of Claire Kingsley and her writing style. Her characters are interesting, the friendship and family relationships are ones that I admire, and the love stories are sexy and believable. I first met the Miles family when I recently read, Everly Dalton's Dating Disasters and instantly connected with lovable Cooper. I couldn't help myself, I had to know more.

This is a story about taking a second chance with love. We meet Roland and Zoe and they are divorced. When I first met them, I didn't particularly like Roland and Zoe seemed a little flakey. I wasn't even convinced that these two should try again, initially. Roland's life choices and priorities seemed whacked and I myself am not a fan of people (in general) who put money over happiness. Zoe seems to be just getting along and not really looking for her happy place. When they meet up again, all of their attraction, connection and shared history make it hard for them to remember they are not each other's "one" anymore.

Even though Zoe has a hook-up buddy and Roland has a girlfriend (if you could call her that), it was obvious that they had unfinished business. Once I got their history and the how's and why's they split, I realised that they needed a second chance. The first time around, they were practically babies. The amount of pressure they put on themselves at such a young age was always going to put a burden on any relationship let alone a couple of 20-year-olds. The one thing you learn as you mature is that communication is the cornerstone of every successful relationship. These kiddywinks missed the memo, unfortunately, and to be honest, they didn't have good role models.

It's going to take more than really good sexy times to fix Roland and Zoe's relationship but their maturity and life experience has taught them what's important. I absolutely loved that Roland realised that his priorities needed to change to keep the love of his life with him. It was also refreshing to see Zoe come to terms with the fact that the end of their relationship was a team effort. He made mistakes and she let him without even telling him why or when it became too much. They both acknowledged and realised that communication is the key.

I really enjoyed meeting the Miles family and I will definitely be back for more. Broken Miles was a fantastic story with lovable characters, humour and plenty of sexy times. If you haven't tried a Claire Kingsley, I can definitely recommend.

*****Revised to 3 stars on 04/16/19.****
I was too generous with original 3.5 stars rating.
Took me a while to get into this book partially because of the content ( the characters needed to grow on me some, I guess!!) but also to be fair I had a lot of other distractions going on when I started reading ( I got a Jack Russell puppy, I am so in love💕).
I would rate this first "Miles Family" book at 🌟🌟🌟 stars for the first 60% and then a solid 🌟🌟🌟🌟 stars for the last 40%.
I Would like to read more of this series eventually and the two characters that interested and intrigued me the most are Cooper and Leo.
Cooper was so much fun in this book and Leo as the disfigured and distant brother immediately appealed to my love for anything with Beauty and the Beast overtones.
Claire Kingsley IMO laid a solid foundation to this series with the first book even though I did find her hero Roland to be a little boring and slightly starchy (dull).
A second chance romance with a slightly more interesting supporting cast of characters!!!!

Good ... but the storyline was also exhausting.

Roland and Zoe fell in love in high school. They went to college and got married and when Roland graduated, he got a job in the “big” city. Through trying to be the best at his job, he forgot to be the best husband.

They divorced, and that’s where this story starts, years after the divorce. He has to go home to help with a family issue and the family winery. Zoe works for them.

I liked the story and, for the most part, really liked the characters. It started a little slow, and I had a hard time warming up to Roland (and really disliked his name!). The slow start is the biggest reason for the half star deduction. The mom and siblings are pretty great, Cooper is so funny that I can’t wait to read his book. Overall, I enjoyed this book and will definitely be continuing on with the series.

**Second chance
**Miscommunications
**Cheating (parent)
**Chemistry 🔥🔥🔥🔥

This book has everything I love. Great main characters, side characters that make me want more. Family bonds that make you smile and friendships that make your heart feel full.

I normally despise second chance romances but a few manage to get past my surly biases and make me live them. This was one if them.

Also, hot, hot, HOT.

Read this book you guys, seriously. Laugh, swoon and be impatient with me while we wait for the next Miles family member to get their HEA!

Second Chance
Small Town

Stars: 4
Length: Full Length
POV: Dual
Series: Miles Family #1 (Stand alone for couple but connected, larger story arch)
Ending: HEA
Re-read? No

She was unraveling me, slowly but surely. I could feel it happening. Like she was gently unbuttoning the collar of a shirt that fit too tight. I could breathe when she was near, yet she still took my breath away.

This was a really good book. I won't ready it again because it's not my typical type of read. In fact, I wouldn't normally pick this up but I wanted to read the series so I had to start with book 1. I'm not really into the second chance at love with the same person thing, especially a divorced couple. However, considering this is completely not my type of book I still really enjoyed it. That ought to tell you something! I felt like it was a little long but it was a nice slow burn. I like that there is a larger family arching storyline. It makes me want to pick up the next book for sure. I really liked all of the family as well. I would definitely recommend this book/series.

This was a sweet second chance romance. I don't know why, but Zoe rubbed me wrong through most of the story. I finally warmed up to her as she and Roland started to get back together again towards the end of this story. Roland's family members were sweet and kept this story light with their antics. There was a bit of a weird vibe between Cooper and Zoe though. I half expected them to hook up with each other midway through the story, just from the way Coop talked to her and the way Zoe seemed open to the idea. I almost wish that Roland's girlfriend would have come to the vineyard after the break up to give this story a little OW drama. That could have created some beautiful angst. Roland's gigantic asshole of a father turned this story into a mystery that glued this tale together. This story ended in a way that leaves the reader wanting to know what happens next. I'm glad the next books in the series are already out, so I don't have to wait for them to be released before diving in again.

Oh my GAWD I loved this so much. It checks so many boxes for me, but ultimately Roland and Zoe’s love for each other just melts me. And the family!!! I love them all so so so much! Cooper is hilarious and I am SO excited to read his book.

Poor Leo, I’m ready for his book too, this man deserves his HEA. And Chase is hilariously clueless, the dynamic between the guys in this book was so fun to read about.

I’m so glad that I started this series once it was already completed, I need so much more from this Miles world! Roland and his capability and generosity, Zoe and her feistiness and spice, they’re the perfect combination. Two people who have never loved anyone romantically other than each other and find each other again is my kryptonite. Small town romance done perfectly well!!!!

Second Chance Marriage | Contemporary Romance

I adore a second chance romance and have loved the books I’ve read by Claire Kingsley in the past, so I decided to give this series a try! The Miles Family series is a series of interconnected standalones. From what I gather, for best enjoyment, these books should be read in order. Each book does feature a different sibling/couple, but I feel like the story line for all the books truly grows with each book. So again, reading them in order is suggested.

With that being said, I found this to be a sweet and enjoyable read. While I would have loved to see a few flashbacks as this is a second chance marriage romance, I felt the story was straight forward and delightful. There were some hilarious parts (I cannot wait to read Coopers book!), and some emotional ones as well (poor Shannon), making it pleasant and well rounded- exactly what I needed in the moment!

Overall, this is a great start to the Miles family series and I’m excited to continue on. I love the books setting (a vineyard) and the fact that the stories each revolve around a Miles family member. This way we get to see some of our favorite characters again!

I love writing reviews for Claire’s books because her stories have always a different theme. As a matter of fact this book has a mix of ingredients ranging from the passionate love between the main characters to the tangled issue of a family who is about to lose everything. So let’s go in order. Roland, a successful CFO and a divorcee is abruptly summoned to save his family’s winery business. Nothing strange so far except for the fact that his ex wife works there. So, nonchalantly he goes back to his family and starts putting back all those pieces together. One may ask: is this all? Nope because the head of the family is a cheating bastard who has created a second family behind everyone’s back and put this one in misery; a grumpy brother who lives in complete isolation because has strong issues, another one who is the eternal Peter Pan that is he refuses to grow up. At last the baby of the family who has come back home after being cheated on and then there’s Zoe, his ex wife, luscious, sexy Zoe whom he has never forgotten all these years. Why did they divorce? Perhaps they were two young? Actually Roland wanted to prove to his family that he was capable of being a successful man without the help of the family. They both blew up something very special but they were unaware of the immense love they actually shared . Time and experience gives them the opportunity to view their relationship as a whole and thanks to the proximity with one another both will finally have the reason to change their lives completely and Roland will devote himself to his loving family. What can I say…. I just fell in love with this family and I can’t wait to read more.

Man patika gan attiecības galveno varoņu starpā, gan tas, cik forši autorei izdevies radīt siltas ģimenes saites. Nepatika divkosīgā, nosodošā attieksme pret gadījuma sakariem.

4.5 stars!
This was my first divorced couple second chance and I wasn't sure how I was going to feel. But I LOVED this. The small town, family first feels made me so happy.

I absolutely loved their dynamic and watching them re-fall in love was so much fun. If you're in the mood for something that will make you feel like you're curled up next to a fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate, this is it.

It's a feel good book with a little hint of family betrayal, and what happens when you have to stop your life to help your family. HIGHLY recommend.

This was the perfect introduction to the Miles family and their winery! This story follows Roland, the oldest of the Miles siblings, and Zoe, his ex-wife, who also happens to work for his family. Roland is forced to come home to his family’s winery after trouble arises, meaning he's forced to face the family he more or less abandoned and the ex-wife who still works there.

This was such a sweet second chance story about two people who found that all consuming kind of love at a young age, but weren't ready for the obstacles life threw at them. Now, they're older, wiser, and forced to spend time together once again. Roland is forced to reevaluate his priorities, and Zoe has to decide if she's willing to risk heartbreak a second time. My only complaint was that the details surrounding their divorce were alluded to but otherwise pretty vague, so at times I wasn't sure if I should be totally rooting for them or if they still had issues to resolve. All in all a super sweet and heart warming story, and the perfect intro to this series!

I really enjoyed this! The things that I thought I might dislike- a divorced couple reuniting, having spent 4 years apart getting it on with other people- didn't actually bother me in the end. I thought it was handled quite realistically (I have experienced somewhat similar circumstances myself).
Cooper and Chase provided the comic relief and are funnier in this book than they were in their own books. I thought the sex was the hottest of the whole series too.

I loved every word of this book! Claire Kingsley created a vivid world that I want to live in! The setting was lovely and dreamy. The secondary characters were interesting and lively. The main characters real, flawed, and charismatic. The storyline tight and intriguing. I hope to hear more from this family!

Ooh, I ended up really enjoying this book. I'm not a huge second chance romance reader but Nicky told me the series was good and the Baily Brother series books are even better so I gave it a chance. So glad I did. This book had me hooked from the very beginning. I liked both Roland and Zoe's characters. They weren't at each other's throats. They had actual conversations (well, a couple of fights) but they didn't have me wanting to throw my tablet.

Honestly, though the best part of this book was Cooper. He and Chase had me rolling. The way they were after getting the dirt on Zoe's f*ck buddy was hilarious.

The biggest problem with Zoe and Roland's past is that they never talked to each other. Zoe just up and left and Roland was so hurt by it he just put it all away. I really liked how they drifted back together because they couldn't stay away from each other. They still had things to work out but they managed to have a fun and sexy time together. It helped Roland see what was in front of him and helped him realize how he had messed up in their marriage. He realized that Zoe was the only thing he ever wanted.

For her part, Zoe realized she never actually told Roland how she was feeling. I really liked how they both accepted part of the blame (Roland more than Zoe because well, obviously) and finally talked through everything.

I loved how Roland came home and wanted to be a part of the family. I can see him and Zoe living by the winery with their kids and just being happy. I love I can see their future. They really were the cutest.

Random Thoughts:

💜 Cooper is the best ever. Like seriously.

💜 The fact that Zoe and Roland had sex on the principal's desk and accidentally turning on the intercom was AWESOME.

💜 I need Shannon and Ben to get together.

💜 She deserves happiness.

💜 We better see it.

💜 I know we get more with Grace but I also hope we get to see them all interact with their new sister and quite a little brother.

Quotes & Faves:

💖 Zoe was home.

💖 “But what I didn’t see was that I had everything I’d ever need right in front of me,” he continued. “I had you. What the fuck else mattered if I had you?

💖 He pulled back to look at me. “I’m not going back to San Francisco. I already gave my notice. It doesn’t matter what happens with my career, or the winery, or any of it. I just want you. No, it’s more than that. I need you. And I know you don’t really need me. You were doing fine without me. But I wasn’t. I was miserable. I love you and I’m never going to love anyone else. You’re it for me, Zoe, and you always were. I just hope you’ll decide you want to keep me around.”

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I picked up Broken Miles by Claire Kingsley, I’ve enjoyed some of her other work so I figured I’d give this series a try and if this is indicative as to what the series will be like, I’m in for a treat. Broken Miles is a second chance at love story no doubt, but it is so much more than that; it is a man realizing how much he’s missed his family, a woman realizing that communication is key in a marriage, a man realizing how much he’s missed in his family’s lives, a woman realizing that even the most stoic man can hurt, and two people realizing that life is better together. There were quite a few good life and love lessons in this story and I absolutely loved it.

When Roland is called home to his family’s winery in Washington he knows he must go to figure out why the bank is warning of foreclosure. He dreads having to discuss anything with his father, their relationship always strained, and while he knows his mother will be happy to see him, he also knows his brothers will give him a hard time for being gone so long, his little sister won’t care what he does, but running into his ex-wife who works for his family…that he knows will be hard.

Four years ago Zoe left her husband in San Francisco and came back “home” including back to work for her ex’s family’s winery. It hasn’t been bad, Roland rarely visits and when he does she steers clear, but now he’s back and her best friend Cooper, Roland’s younger brother didn’t even warn her and now she has to deal with seeing him, being near him, and wondering if he remembers how good they’d been together in their early years.

While there is a lot going on in this book, the romance is front and center. It does take a little while for Roland and Zoe to move past the awkward stage, but even while awkward they both are struggling with memories and attraction. Roland has his work cut out for him trying to save the family’s winery and he’s working long hours doing that and continuing to do is real job remotely, but as he’s there he is also repairing his relationship with his mom and his brothers, and renewing his friendship with Zoe all while figuring out why the winery is losing money. I don’t want to give a lot away but let’s just say a lot of secrets come to light and most of them are not good.

I loved watching Roland and Zoe fall into a lustful stage and then realizing how much they’d missed one another and not only sexually. Roland especially figured out quickly that he wanted Zoe back, but the hurt of what killed their marriage was still on Zoe’s mind so it took a couple of fights and finally some nice, solid communication to make them see the light.

While there was a bit of drama in this book, it wasn’t manufactured and was necessary to the plot.

Family, friendship, fun, and a whole lot of love, Broken Miles was a fantastic romance and I can’t wait to dive into the next book in the series.
