Manning

As captain of the Dallas Oilers, I was their leader on and off the ice. From the outside, it looked like I had the perfect life.

I didn’t.

I was married to a woman who refused to give me a divorce. All she wanted was the status title, and all I wanted was to be set free.

It was supposed to be just another event, except it took a turn I didn’t see coming.

Evelyn

Attending my best friend’s bachelorette party isn’t something I was looking forward to.
But it’s strange what a couple of glasses of wine will do.

It was one night, and I thought I would never see him again.

Especially not coming face-to-face with him and his wife while picking up my nephew from hockey practice.

All it takes is one kiss, one touch, one chance, and only one night.

one issue:
he should've and could've filed for a divorce years ago
there was no legal reason why he couldn't and he had the means to do so
he finally has enough reason to now that he met the h but he had no logical excuse for not getting divorced before

another thing:
finally a hero who, when he actually commits to the h, puts her first and doesn't pander to his wife's whims when he's with the h
doesn't take ow's calls while with the h
really only talks to her when he needs to
he FINDS the time to spend with h - as much as he can

I can never understand, in other books, why heroes spend evenings/nights away from the h unless he's working or has something on - it's like authors forget that nighttime is also time when they can be with each other - like nighttime doesn't count.
weird, this

but this H spends every moment he can with the h
unless he's with his son or working, he's with her

oh and another thing:
the ow is revolting
In this case I prefer this kind of ow so as to justify in my mind that the cheating is okay
yes, I am a double-standarder

4 💘💘💘💘🌟s❣️❣️❣️❣️

Manning - the hockey captain - for the last 4 years the only things he had been sharing with his nasty bitchy cheating wife were the house and their son. Ok, and she spent his money.
But, one night Manning encountered Evelyn and his life took an unexpected yet beautiful turn!! 💘 The sparks were mutual!!

Their story was emotional yet heartbreaking. Evelyn was the motivation Manning needed, as to pursue his final divorce.

Both characters were likeable, easy to connect with, they were honest with each other and kind hearted.
It was an angsty yet enjoyable romance read with a wonderful hea❣️

This review is going to be all over the place, because even though I did like some parts of the book, there were just so many things that didn't set right with me.

So if you've read the previous books in the series, then you know that Manning is the team's captain and is trapped in such a toxic marriage. His once sweet wife wants only the status attached to him, not him himself. For the past four years they have been living in separate rooms, they have not once touched each other (she has a fling on the side that Manning knows about) and even though they are married on paper only, Manning stays because be doesn't want to lose his son. He just convinces himself that he'll be happy as long as his son is happy. *cue deep breath.*

Evelyn has just gotten out of a relationship that ended horrendously, so she's definitely not looking to jump into anything new. But when she has a sudden intense connection to the sexy stranger, she forgoes her usual sensibilities and has one night of extreme pleasure -- both physically and emotionally. She slips out before she wakes, and even though she can't stop thinking about the connection they shared, she tries to convince herself to forget about him.. until Evelyn realizes the man she can't get out of her head is not only married, but has a son as well. He explains everything to her, and eventually they do continue their affair (which is what this is) and realizes that he finally has something to live for, and knows that something has got to give and soon, or sook else he will lose the very thing that gives him happiness.

Ok. I know that was a lot to take in, but are you with me so far? Good!

Now onto what didn't work for me:

Manning is this high earning, millionaire hockey player, and you're telling me the courts wouldn't side with him if he wanted a divorce? Add to the fact that since he knew his wife was sleeping with someone else, and their OWN SON would mention that he knows about mommy's sleepovers. So one would think that Manning would not get the divorce he so desperately wants, but sole custody as well. I get trying to do the best by your child, but no child should be in that toxic of an environment. And what really grated on my nerves? Evelyn was the one that made Manning wake up and realize he could be happy. Not his son, his own flesh and blood, but EVELYN.

I'm not saying that Evelyn wasn't a good heroine, because she was. Between her and Manning's little boy, they were my favorite parts of the book. But I just wish she put a hold to the relationship they had until AFTER Manning was divorced. Which says a lot for Manning's character in my opinion. I get that what he and his wife had wasn't a marriage by any means, but they both used their son as collateral in getting what they wanted in the end, even though that's the one thing Manning always wanted to avoid.

I knew going into this that there would be cheating involved, which usually is a hard no for me, but I have loved some cheating romances in the past so I gave this a try. It wasn't so much the cheating that made me mad -- it was how Manning carried out that cheating. He hurt Evelyn when she found out, and then he unwittingly left his son in the middle of all this chaos with him and his wife.

All in all, this book just wasn't for me.

**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions.**

Natasha Madison never cease to amaze me!!!
Writing so many books about hockey players could have been complicated, it could have gotten boring, and the books could have all become the same... but not with her.
She always find a way to suck you into the story, no matter what.
I was eager to read about Manning, because he was the one who deserved more an happy ending.

For the past four years he has limited himself to surviving, forced into a hellish marriage.
He is ready to wait and to bear everything from his bitchy wife just for the sake of his son. But he hadn't foreseen Evelyn....

Evelyn just got back in town after a bad break up. Work and family are her only interests. She never imagined that one night with an handsome stranger would have turn her world upside down.

I LOVED this story so much: once i started reading it, i didn't stop until i finished it.

Manning is really every woman dream man: the way he take care of his son, and sacrifice his happiness for his son's; the way he respect his wife, even if she only deserve to be slapped ( i hate that woman 🤬🤬🤬)....
He is damn perfect!!
Evelyn is also amazing: she is ready to give up on love just to do the right thing and i loved her for this 🖤
But their kind of love can't be stopped, so it's only fair they fight by all means possible for it 😌😌
Once again i appreciated the friendship bonds between the teammates and the way they support each other 🖤🖤
This series is definitely a must read!!

There's just one thing i didn't liked about Only One Night: i wanted Murielle to suffer more 🤬🤬

“You, Evelyn...You are what dreams are made of.”
An Emotionally Charged addition to this Fun Rom-Com series! This story is AMAZING❤.
I loved Manning & Evelyn! Especially how they handle his Troubling Wife. Adored seeing the previous Characters & the family of Mann & Eve😍. After the tease of this in Previous book, I was so Fucking excited & this deserves fanfare! DEVOURED this in 6hrs.

Manning; Observant, Quiet, Strong in all the ways, Caring; is the Captain of Dallas NHL team. He has a Sweet Pre-teen son & a Bitchy Wife who doesn't give him divorce & makes his life hell. He's been celibate for 4yrs.
Evelyn; Understanding, Sassy, Smart, Fun; Recently moved here & works for His family's financial firm. Her Ex cheated on her, hence the move, so she's not Currently looking for a relationship but if it comes..She won't deny it.

Manning & Evelyn "Stumbled at eachother" in a case of being at right place at the right time & were immediately drawn to eachother. So strong Sparks. Which led to a Scorching HOT night. One they can't forget. But Eve hightailed outta there.

Imagine her surprise when The Two meet again, but he's with her WIFE & SON, The son who's Friends with Eve's Nephew? Yup, Bad Surprise.
Not only this, but her firm handles Manning account. Her family knows Mann. Eve's Heartbroken, thinking of Their Special night in a darker sense. But He's Determined to give Eve the whole picture.

We've seen in the previous books, the strain his marriage is putting him in. The bitch only wants the Glamour & Cheats on him repeatedly. He's always been very private BUT When he's finally able to talk to Evelyn, he tells her everything.
“I stay for my son. I stay so she doesn’t drag my kid through shit. I stay to keep the peace. But in the end, pieces of me were dying...I didn’t even know until I saw you...I saw you, and...Something in me woke up.”

(He's such a great Dad for so many reasons, I love his son too!)

Manning & Evelyn Want eachother...& After the deep talks, they take the leap. A Secret Relationship. These two are so hot from the get go! She's so understanding, cares for Mann & his son. He has already won my heart, she does too (& his too)!
They've been falling, but the stress of being the "Other woman" is eating her alive. & After The Ugly sweater Party Fake photo, she snaps. Cue Break up. It breaks their hearts, but its the right thing, right?

But Manning won't let His bitchy wife takeaway the best thing in his life. So though he stays away from Eve, he formulates a plan (With Becca!) To get divorce. With evidence of his wife's Infidelity. Him meeting Eve at Events is Hurting but life giving. But his Ex wife caught a whiff of "them"..& Made Drama for Eve. She'd gone too far now. Ha.

What happens next is really fucking Fun. His wife's life is thrown into chaos. His too, but Evelyn, his teammates (+ Nico) & Family are there for him! His son copes up well too. The later scenes were Heart-racing in a good way! The Plan Worked. Miller can finally be free & find his happiness with Evelyn *Swoon*. I'm so so happy! Cue Love Confessions! Him meeting her family, as her boyfriend, is fun!

The ending & Epilogues are so Heartwarming❤. The teaser for Nico's story had my hands sweating, like WTF happened?! We can see the spark b/W Becca & Nico here. So excited!
**At the time of Writing this Review, I've already Read "Only one Touch". Totally Recommend this series!**

If you have read the previous books in this series, then you'll be delighted to read Manning's story. If you haven't read it, don't worry, it can be read as a standalone. The third one in a series. Only One Night is a book that will delight readers with flirty banter, sexy and sweet scenes.
Trapped in an unhappy marriage, lonely and broken, Manning cannot manage to take his eyes off the girl who managed to enchant him with just one look and a witty remark ... As his eyes reluctantly look for her throughout the restaurant, hoping for a moment to enjoy in her beauty and appeal at least for a moment, he hopes .... Once, twice, three times .... every peak slowly brings them closer to each other, one word, two, three ..... a decision has been made… only one night together will be enough...
The most wonderful things in life almost always happen completely unexpectedly ... An unplanned touch, a look, and the magic was born ..... his heart opened the gates that night and allowed her to sign her name over the old wounds and scars .. ...
But will just one night be enough to express all those emotions that overwhelm both of them so unplanned? And will they be allowed more?
The book is really easy to read, with a fairly light storyline, which will not burden you. And although the topic is mainly focused around truelove/forbidden romance, the author very skillfully inserts elements of much more serious topics, which somehow innocently lead us to think. From the question of whether to stay married for the sake of the children to the positive and negative effects of social media, this book has a lot of layers that easily can provoke you to try to draw conclusions and form opinions regarding the story.
From the very beginning that will delight you with sexy flirting and witty remarks until the end, Evelyn and Manning are characters who somehow simply belong to each other. The communication between them, as well as between the supporting characters is quite solidly built, long enough or short depending on the situation, and fully supports the characters. Manning as a character is quite layered, and his development from an indifferent, meek mouse who barely survives into a character who is strong and knows how to fight for what he wants is truly amazing. At the beginning of the book, Manning didn’t impress me at all, a man who allows being dictated to, forced to stay away from his parents, to be trampled and humiliated, and it was honestly hard for me to understand why did the author create such a character. I tried, really, to understand why is he so passive, why he accepts everything. I do not know if I succeeded, in the end, to fully understand. Evelyn, unlike him, was a fantastic heroine to me, a woman who bravely goes after what she wants takes what she wants, and is not ashamed to ask for what she thinks she needs. She is everything: smart, sassy, sweet and selfless. Her moral dilemmas about Manning, as well as the way she handles the whole situation, further strengthened my sympathy for her as a character. The chemistry between them is obvious and simply palpable from the beginning. What honestly bothered me a little as a reader was the dynamics of romance. Too much 'insta-love', everything was too fast, not enough developed and somehow mixed up ... From one-night stand to I will always love you in a second. Maybe some people enjoy such stories, but I prefer when love develops slowly and gradually.
If you are looking for a book that will bring new light to some of the grey areas, who will change your mind about some topics and will delight you at the same time with once-in-a-lifetime love story, then be sure not to miss this one.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.I have been eagerly awaiting Manning’s story ever since his introduction in the first book of the Only One series. I expected his story to be emotional with a side of drama, and Madison did not disappoint. She delivered all I expected and more.

If you found yourself trapped in a loveless marriage with a spouse from hell, who has no intention of letting you go because of the perks associated with being married to you, and who would use your child as a pawn to ensure you stay in line what would be your course of action? This was the case with the main character, Manning, captain of the Dallas Oilers hockey team. His wife, Murielle, refuses to give him a divorce, despite her many affairs, and holds the threat of taking their son away over his head. She enjoyed the perks of being a captain’s wife and had no intention of giving it up. Manning resigned himself to his fate for the sake of his son, a situation which left him miserable and unsociable. Then he met Evelyn and what should have been one night of passion, became much more. Evelyn made him recognise he deserved happiness and needed to take the steps to achieve same.

Ah! Manning was so swoon worthy. I admired the way he is always there for his son, Jaxon. His son’s needs took priority and the fact he willingly sacrificed his happiness for him showed he was a great father. However, what I admired most about him was the fact he never once disrespected his wife in front of their son, which I knew took a lot of restraint and patience. His willingness to admit when he was wrong was another trait which I admired about him. He was by no means perfect. He made mistakes, but he owned up to them.

Evelyn was a sweetheart. She oozed confidence and strength. I loved her selflessness, which revealed itself in the way put Jaxon’s needs (Manning’s son) above her happiness. She unwittingly found herself in a complicated situation, and I loved how she handled it all.

Be prepared to have your emotions tied up if you decide to read this book. I experienced a variety of emotions. Anger, laughter, teary-eyed moments, indifference, you name it; I felt it. This story had enough heat to set my kindle on fire. The chemistry between Evelyn and Manning topped the sexual chemistry charts. Be prepared for some hot and passionate scenes. The genuineness of their feelings for each other radiated through the pages, and it had me rallying for their happiness. Madison’s talent in maintaining a balance of sexy and heartfelt emotion came to light in this installment.

I had fun catching up with the characters from the previous books, and as always Miller had me in stitches.

I am not on board with cheating, but Manning’s situation fell in a grey area. I understood the dilemma he faced and in this situation I would not pass judgement. Bearing in mind his marriage was on paper only and there was no emotional attachment to his shrew of a wife.

I thoroughly enjoyed Only One Night, with its swoon worthy and passionate romance. I can’t wait to get my hands on Nico and Becca’s story, which promises to be an equally exciting read. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading

The Hero and heroine meet and have a ONS.
They have an instant connection and she leaves the next morning, or slips away.
They meet up again accidentally and she realises he's married.

He is married, he says they live in separate parts of the house and he asked for a divorce 4 years ago.
When he asked, his wife took his son and disappeared and wouldn't return until he promised not to discuss it again.
The wife is painted out as evil. She is cheating on him with her trainer and when she has a fitness session booked, her and the trainer disappear to the basement where the Hero has caught them having sex.
The son is living in this toxic relationship. He even says that mummy has sleep overs with the trainer.

The Hero says that the heroine brought him back to life and gave him the incentive to sort out the situation with his wife and get a divorce.
What a shame it wasn't his son that was this inspiration.

Also with sports romance I have read in the past, the players have access to legal counsel etc which conveniently he does have once he decides to take action.
He removes the child then issues the wife with his demands.
He couldn't have don't this before the heroine?
If there had been no child in the equation I could see this storyline working but I really didn't think much of the Hero not to think of his son.
Also the connection the Hero and heroine feel is very insta.
I didn't like the writing style, he's arguing with the wife and it says he laughs.
It's not said as a sarcastic laugh or with desperation it just says he laughs.
It's really not appropriate or is a lack of writing skills?
No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine.
Obviously other woman drama in the form of the wife.
HEA.
Epilogue.

Obviously this wasn't for me.

As many other reviews mentioned, the foundation of this book is built upon a conflict that doesn’t really make sense… like at all. That being that a loaded hockey star is trapped in a marriage because he can’t get his wife to agree to a divorce… cuz she stole his kid for 2 weeks last time he tried and wouldn’t return until he promised to stay married. (in the blurb) So, from the get you have to overlook that this is a free country, and you can get divorced without your spouse being onboard and that it is illegal to kidnap your kid. It was silly.

I think the author was trying to give us the obstacle of a wife while justifying Manning basically having an affair without us hating him, but it felt lazy. I could take 5 minutes and come up with several logical alternatives (like the OW was blackmailing him) that IMHO would’ve worked better than what we were given.

BUT if you can get passed that the book is pretty good. Manning might be married but he’s all in with Evelyn and never waivers which is great for a romance, but not so great if you’re looking for drama.

The good-
🟢 Great chemistry between Manning and Evelyn.
🟢 Manning is dedicated to Evelyn and is never torn or loyal to Murielle.
🟢 Murielle (wife) is portrayed very negatively (bad wife, bad mom, cheater, etc.) making the affair more palatable.
🟢 There’s no relationship (for YEARS) between Manning and Murielle.

The not-so good
❌ Insta-love
❌ The constant whispering Manning… Evelyn… Manning…Evelyn.
❌ Him being trapped when he was a millionaire with access to lawyers, cops, etc. There was no logical reason for Murielle to have so much power over him.
❌ Low drama (this could be a plus for some 😊)

Bottom Line-Ok read available on KU.

“I hope she knows that for only one night, she gave me the world.”

4.5 stars!

OMG, this book brought the feels! I started reading and I couldn’t put it down, and I was feeling everything along with Manning and Evelyn in their dramatic, emotional, angsty and swoony romance, and I loved their story so much!

I'm sorry that this review is so long, but I have so many feels, and so much I feel I need to say, so please bear with me!

This is the third book in the Only One series, and while it can be read as a standalone, you’ll probably appreciate it more if you’ve read the earlier books. Those who have read the earlier books will know all about Dallas NHL Captain, Manning and his dysfunctional family life. He is stuck in a living hell, having spent the last four years wanting to divorce his socialite wife, Murielle, but she won’t have it, refusing to give up her status as the ‘Captain’s wife’ and she threatens him by using their son, Jaxon. Manning has been living in a separate part of the house from Murielle for years, and wants absolutely nothing to do with her, but to keep the peace and be there for Jaxon, he puts up with the situation, even though it makes him desperately miserable.

While out at a business dinner one night he meets a woman who takes his breath away. Surprisingly, she has no clue who he is, which he loves, and when it’s clear she returns the attraction, he is stunned at the depth of his need for her. So, embracing the moment and desperately wanting something that is just for him just once in his life, he has his very first one-night stand. It’s a night that is everything. They talk and laugh, and it’s so easy between them, and they have the most earth-shattering sex either of them have ever had. They share a true connection, and it rocks both of their worlds, but she leaves before he wakes.

Evelyn can’t believe she had a one-night stand. Her night with Manning was everything she’s ever been looking for in a man, but she’s just had an epically bad break up and is trying to get her life back on track. She’s not looking for a relationship, but that doesn’t mean she has forgotten about him. So, she’s thrilled when she unexpectedly runs into him again while picking her nephew up from soccer practice. Only to learn that he is, in fact, married, with a son of his own.

It's an awkward, awkward situation, and so full of everything! The chemistry is there, but so is the anger, betrayal and devastation. I could fully understand everything that Evelyn was feeling, and my heart ached for her.

I feel like the earth is crumbling under my feet. This can’t be happening to me. This can’t be true. It can’t be. But then I look up and see him, his eyes, and I know. Everything we did was a lie. Everything I felt was a lie, and everything he said was a lie.

Manning knows he screwed up, and he knows that Evelyn deserves better than the way he treated her, but he just can’t let her go. And when he pours his heart out to her, oh, my heart hurt for him!

“I begged her to let me go.” He swallows now as his voice cracks again. “But she refused.”

It’s such a hard position they are in, and yes, there are grey areas in this story, but I was rooting for them and I wanted so much for them to find their happy together.

Manning’s story is heartbreaking, and we have seen how beaten down he is, so I loved seeing him finally find his happy. You could tell that he was completely taken by surprise when Evelyn came into his life, but he bravely followed his heart, and I LOVED that!

“I was happy to just go through life and give everyone else what they wanted. And then I saw you.” He stares at me. “I saw you, and something in me jumped off the ledge … Something in me woke up.”

And Evelyn is a wonderful heroine. She is confident and strong, and though she recognises the rarity of what she’s found with Manning and is understanding of his situation, she stands up for herself. She’s not a doormat, and I love the way she handled herself through the whole thing.

“You, Evelyn … You are what dreams are made of.”

Now, about that grey area… I’m somebody who usually does not tolerate cheating in a book. I’ve DNF’d books with cheating in them before, and it usually turns me right off. This, to me, did not feel like cheating. The marriage is over in every way except on paper, and there is no emotional connection between Manning and his wife at all. It wasn’t ideal for him still to be tied to another woman, but it creates a dramatic twist which forms the real crux of the story, and I so desperately wanted to see him make it all right.

“Will you wait for me?” He doesn’t stop. “I want to be the man who deserves you. I want you to be the one holding my hand at the end of this.”

It’s a bit of an angsty one, and the feels are intense as Manning and Evelyn ride the emotional rollercoaster, but it’s a beautiful, beautiful romance. It’s so easy and natural between them, and they are so freaking sexy! Their strong physical connection is hot as all hell, and reflective of the deep emotion between them, and they are just gorgeous together. They have unique challenges to deal with, and though it didn’t play out the way either of them would have wanted, I loved watching them work through it all to claim their HEA.

Little Jaxon is a wonderful part of the story - he’s written so perfectly, and the relationship between him and his Dad just melted me. The couples from the previous books make an appearance, and I loved seeing them have their Captain’s back. And there is a delicious tease for Nico and Becca’s book coming up next!! Damn!

I loved this one. The set-up is possibly going to scare a few readers off, but I urge you to go into it with an open mind and appreciate the storyline of a man reclaiming his life and fighting hard for the woman he loves. It was such a beautiful journey.

4.5 stars.

I really like this series but one thing they all have in common is that they all have unnecessary drama.

This book is about Manning and Evelyn. Manning is the captain of an NHL team. Evelyn works for her father’s financial firm. They meet at a club when she’s at a bachelorette party and have a one night stand and then run into each other randomly a few days later. They both really like each other and want more than just one night. The only problem is that Manning is married. He’s in a loveless marriage and has been trying to divorce his wife for 4 years but she won’t agree to the divorce. He hasn’t been with his wife (or anyone else) in all that time and is really only staying with her for their son.

Here’s my problem with this book: it just didn’t make sense that the captain of an NHL team, a millionaire with endless money and resources , couldn’t hire a kickass lawyer to get him out of his marriage and get him custody of his son! The author goes on and on about how Manning’s wife wouldn’t “give him a divorce” but divorce doesn’t have to be agreed on by two parties! Especially when there’s infidelity (the wife has been sleeping with her personal trainer for years, right under Manning’s roof). Like…. Really?! You couldn’t figure out how to divorce her?! She wasn’t even a good mom! She neglected their son and was an overall horrible human being. It just made ZERO sense that he would remain married to her and felt like pointless and unnecessary drama.

We met Manning in the other books and I have been dying to know his story. He hates social media, he is all about his son and his wife is a real Bitch! I knew his wife Murielle was somehow holding something over his head but other than threatening to take his son away, which would be difficult nowadays she really didn’t have anything to speak of. I was pretty disappointed that he put up with so much from her when I don’t really believe it was necessary.

You can’t but love Manning because he is such a great dad.

I wasn’t at all opposed to Manning meeting someone and hooking up with them and I’m extremely glad it was Evelyn.

Evelyn is a great character for so many reasons!

As always NM wrote a really interesting book but I have one thing that thoroughly pissed me off……….I live outside of Houston Texas and we used to have the Houston Oilers football team so what the heck is it all about that the hockey team is the Dallas Oilers… NO MA’AM!! That is unacceptable! 

⭐️ 5 "It's Us" Stars ⭐️
It’s not a secret that Natasha Madison’s sports romances are my absolute favorites! After reading the first two novels in the Only One Series, I was elated about Manning’s book. There was just something so mysterious and appealing about the quiet Captain of the Dallas Oilers. Natasha Madison quenched my curiosity with Only One Night, delivering my favorite novel yet in this captivating must read series.

Manning is this big beast of a man, but such a caring and romantic man at heart. I was so sad to witness his home life with his despicable wife. I was hurting to see him struggling in this prison. The only light in his life is his son and hockey.

A chance meeting with Evelyn changes his perspective on his future! It’s clear at first meet that their attraction is intense, but it’s also so much more than only physical. They’re truly stunning to see interact in every single shared moments. Evelyn is mending a broken heart and is scared to embark on a new relationship. Add the fact that the man is married, it only complicates their blooming relationship. Through it all, Manning is patient and determined to prove that she’s the only one for him. He’s the sweetest alpha there is! While he’s devoted and thoughtful, he can also be pushy when he desires something. He fights with everything he got for Evelyn’s love!

This couple has such an enchanting love story alternating between sweet, passionate and heartbreaking. Only One Night was everything I wanted and more! I couldn’t have asked for a better story for Manning! The ending left me reeling with questions, so Nico and Becca’s book, Only One Touch, has now me so excited!

I was really curious to read this story and I've finished it in no time.
Natasha Madison succeded to keep my attention throughout the book, she made me read about cheating and I've even cheered for the couple.

Manning is the captain of a hockey team, he is married with a real "witch" that he can't stand, he only keeps a cordial facade to not loose his son. Evelyn is back in town to work for her family's company.
A Friday night she goes out for her friend's bachelorette party and she meets a handsome man, they start flirting and they decide to spend the night together. The morning after Evelyn thinks that is better to leave the hotel room without waking up Manning, but soon enough she realizes that she has made a mistake because she can't forget the night spent with him and she doesn't have his number. Fortunately fate makes them meet again but in that occasion she finds out that he is married. Will Evelyn understand the complicated relationship between Manning and his wife? Or will that break them forever?

I adored Evelyn, she is smart, witty, sweet and selfless. I liked a little less Manning, I know I'm in the minority here, but I didn't appreciate how he has let his bad marriage to crush him without thinking to find a solution before he met Evelyn, he passivily accepted every vile action of his wife and I don't think that was so good for his beautiful son sake.

I recommend to read Only One Night to find how an author can surprise making even the strong minded understand her characters' not typical behavious.

This book covers a rather risky trope. Even though the H is in a marriage with problems, he is still technically married and even occasionally attends big events with his wife on his arm. We know if from the blurb so I was prepared for cheating, but I was expecting something more… Maybe a bit more respect towards his wife? Maybe some inter struggle before jumping into new relationship? Maybe some more pride?

I wanted to see a man who can keep his word til the end and not blame his wife for something he is also doing (there is a lot of slut shaming and bad ex is mainly guilty of Botox!).

I have read later part of this series and it was written so well that I can’t believe it’s the same author. Or maybe she just improved after receiving a few negative comments?

The smut remains on a good level, but the rest disappoints.

Not my favorite married man/OW love story. They were so many plot holes and other general irritants. The story begins with the H in the h meeting at a bar, and sparks fly. He never admits that he's married, because he assumes it will be a one-night stand. The fact that he wasn't honest with the h from the onset, was wrong.

It doesn't matter if his wife is awful, (wife is written as ott, toxic, mentally unstable, cheating whore, who has a ton of plastic surgery) or if they haven't slept together in years, the plain fact is, he is still married to her, living with her, and raising their son together in the same house. There are plenty of women who have no problem sleeping with married men, but we know that Evelyn would have made a different decision had she known he was married.

He's the team captain, rolling in money, he can't hire legal representation to protect him and his son? He allows he son to stay in an unhealthy home? What kind of crappy father is this? When he's on the road,

He chooses to stay with his wife, even after sleeping with Evelyn multiple times. This reality begins to destroy Evelyn's emotions. It's only after Evelyn says she can't be with him anymore that he finally decides to leave his marriage.

If this hero was any kind of actual hero, he would've done what it took to protect his son the moment his marriage became toxic. End of story.

Manning has always been the quiet one. Does not share his private life and it made me wonder…and now I know why, and I couldn’t believe what hell he has been living. Unlike his wife Murielle, only by name, Manning wants what is best for his son, Jaxon, yet all Murielle wants is being he center of attention. He’s been living this nightmare for the past 4 years. When Manning sees Evelyn for the first time, it brings back to life a part of him that has been dead.

Evelyn’s home and not by choice but knowing that her family is there for her makes the betrayal a little bit easier to deal with. She didn’t expect her heart to beat again when she literally runs into Manning but yet she knows she’ll never be the same.

They never meant for this to happen because it was supposed to be one night yet both Manning and Evelyn know that this is not temporary because without each other they are not living.

I will not go into detail because you need to go in bling and fall in love with Manning and Evelyn like I did. You will want to b$tc# slap someone yet be classy at the same time 😊 Kara~5 Stars

4 Manning and Evelyn Stars

Manning is the Captain of the Dallas Oilers Ice Hockey Team. He has been married for ten years to Murielle who has made his life hell for the last six years or so. He tried divorcing her four years earlier but she took their son, Jaxon , and hid away until Manning agreed not to divorce her.

Murielle is all about her public image and she loves being the centre of attention as the Captain's wife. She is disliked intensely by the other Wives and girlfriend's and honestly , there are no redeeming features for this character. The most damning thing about her is the fact she has been cheating on Manning for years and her regular f**k buddy is her Trainer and they screw each other on an almost daily basis in the house. Manning has caught them once and is well aware of what she is doing. The Chris Stapleton song , Either Way , comes to mind when I think about Manning and Murielle. It sums them up perfectly.

One night , Manning goes to a meeting in a bar with a couple of other team mates and whilst there he meets Evelyn. Evelyn has had a horrendous , and I really do mean horrendous , split from her boyfriend. (The revelation of how that relationship imploded made me gasp!). She has returned home to work for her family's firm and is attending her friend's Bachelorette party. Her and Manning meet, connect and have a passionate night together in the hotel room that his agent booked for him in case he decided to stay over. Evelyn leaves without saying goodbye. Manning wakes up craving the woman he spent the night with and when his phone rings , he thinks it's Evelyn but instead it's Murielle.

"How the fuck do you explain to the woman who you spent the night with , cherishing , that you have a wife."

The key thing here is that Evelyn had no idea Manning is married because he never told her.

When their paths cross again and Evelyn finds out he is married , you could almost feel her reaction pulsating from the pages. I really felt for her.

"He had a wife. He has a wife. I slept with a married man. I slept with someone's husband."

As much as they try to do the right thing , the pull between these two is too strong and eventually they become more and more entwined. But that brings forth the wrath of a wife who refuses to play second fiddle to anyone and a woman scorned will go to any length to unleash Hell on the 'other woman'. I think I hate Murielle as much as Manning did.

Some people may not want to read this book because there is cheating. The Hero is married. The heroine is the 'other woman'. I actually enjoyed it. Manning's marriage was over years ago. He had been celibate for four years and hadn't messed around despite his wife's infidelity. Evelyn and Manning are solid and absolutely perfect for each other.

I would have liked to see Murielle get a harsher outcome. She deserved to have more wrath unleashed on her IMO.

Overall , this was a good read. Lots of very passionate sex - the chemistry between the H/h pulsates from the pages and you will need a few Kindle freezer moments for sure.....

HEA? Yes and OMG I want to read the next book about Becca and Nico, Only One Touch

Cheating? Yes, but not between the H/h - they are solid.

The One

I wasn’t sure what to expect going in. Knowing the lead was married gave me some reservations but damn I was glad I went with my gut and having read the previous books I knew there’d be a story with an experience.

The heat in this story was off the hook, I’m surprised the ice wasn’t melting.

NHL League captain Manning has been living a nightmare, a wife he can’t stand and one he doesn’t love. He yearns for his freedom but she’s holding his son over his head. He’s never strayed, until her. One look. One touch and this man is about to put it all on line.

Evelyn has come back to home to Nashville to escape her life in Chicago. Her ex cheating on her was bad enough but walking in on him with two other people who were also partners in their business devastated her. Hooking up with the mysterious Manning she had no clue who he was. But when she’s confronted with her one night stand and his wife she’s rocked. She never wanted to be the other woman but that’s what it’s looking like.

Manning knows she’s the one, this intensely private man is going to have to lay it all in line if he wants forever with her.

There’s drama, chemistry that’s blisteringly hot and a guaranteed happily ever after.

It's a yes from me.

Ummm Low Rating for Manning

Captain is one of my anticipated characters in this series he is the most quiet and serious of them all BUT the NO divorce with the wife then relationship with the h is a BIG NO for me!
There is something about still living in the same house and being together for publicity reason that makes his affair with the heroine dirty.. atleast for me🤔 I totally relate when heroine felt that she is the other woman because she definitely is the other woman and this is months after finding that her partner, business partner cheated on her with their best friends(threesome)..how crazy is that?? 🙉 she jumped from being the cheated party to be the cheater 🤡

Yes despite how crazy and wicked they potrait the witch from hell...she is still the legal wife

Hero's motivation to move on from his (prisoned) life is because of his ONS and NOT because of his son makes me sad for Jaxon!

Manning you should have used your money to get away from your toxic marriage💸💸💵💵

To be fair I loved how attentive Manning is to Evelyn but perhaps this story is not just for me🤔

This review is going to be full of spoilers but I don't care, I'll hide it.
It will sound contradictory when you'll read what I'm about to write. And I'm sorry if you liked it but this was not my cup of tea...
I gave it 2 stars cause I like her writing and the epilogue was nice and the characters were cute (overall).
But everything else felt wrong, from Manning being married when he had a one night stand with Evelyn (I didn't enjoy the flirty and steamy scenes because of that) to the reasons why Manning stayed with that cheating bitch of a wife for so long. Yes, I get it, it was because of your son and you'll always put him first. But you cannot lie to a person, I don't care about passion or that you had a sort of insta-love. It's about morals. You omitted your marital status and yet you continue pursuing the poor girl. And what did that girl do? I would have given him an ultimatum.
It was like they saw each other, they felt a connection, they didn't want to stay away from each other, they had hot sex every time they were in the same room and then what?
I'm sorry I basically vomited all these words cause I loved the other two books of this series but this one was a no. And I've read the blurb of the next one and no, I'm not sure I'm going to read it. When the hero marries someone else but loves the heroine? Nope. The last five lines of the second epilogue kinda ruined everything

Sweet and great love story. Love in first sight, electricity going on when their hands comes together and have one night stand. Both still think about each other after that and meet again and try to have a great relationship... even when there’s annoying things happening between them.

THE HERO IS ALPHA MALE but not too possessive so i gave it 4 stats lol

THE HEROINE is a sassy woman! I love her

IT HAS PUSHING AWAY but not too much. And its from the heroine for a good reason!

The hero is still married but when he knows things are not good between them, he distant himself from the woman and never touch her again for 4 years. AND HE ALSO NEVER EVEEEERRRR TOUCH ANOTHER WOMAN IN 4 YEARS!!! THE HEROINE IS THE FIRST ONE HE TOUCH AND MADE OUT WITH!

IT HAS SEPARATION but not too long. Both are loyal and never ever touch or go to anyone else.

DRAMA WITH OW but not too annoying because the heroine knows how to say the right words!!!

Hot smut scenes and both celibate for a while especially the hero duh

No virgins

HAPPY ENDING! Married and have kids

The hero said mine to the heroine some times. Not many times tho like i want him to lol

Not many jealous scenes from the hero and the heroine

I have been looking forward to Manning's story the most. But I really wasn't sure how Natasha was going to work it out in a way that wouldn't make things uncomfortable.

Because even though we knew Manning was an amazing father and his wife was the wicked witch I didn't want him to do anything to make me not like him. And in a subject this sensitive I couldn't think how it was going to play out without him doing something unforgivable.

I should have had more faith. Because this book was written so well that I couldn't fault how everything happened. Evelyn was a great character, and she was so perfect for Manning.

The whole thing had me unable to put it down. And that epilogue was the cherry on top. But oh my god that teaser at the end was so mean. And now I have to wait forever for Becca and Nico. I hate wait.

MANNING IS THE BEST!!!

What a truly emotional roller coaster of a book.
Natasha Madison DELIVERED with Only One Nigh!
Manning is her best male character to date and he owns my heart.
His relationship with his son made me feel so many emotions... He’s trapped, unhappy and his life is turned upside down when he sees Evelyn for ONE night only...

Their story is so perfectly balanced, it's angsty, ugly, passionate, honest and completely raw. There is no sugar coating the pure emotion and the chemistry is off the scale.

Trust me when is say that story telling doesn't get much better than this.

2.5 stars. This is an angsty contemporary romance with a hockey player hero.

I've already forgotten the characters' names and ages, that's how forgettable they are. This book had the potential for good angst, but the characters were too bland. So, the angst didn't land as well as it should have. The basic plot: the hero and heroine have a one-night stand that rocks both of their worlds. Then a few days later, she's horrified to run into him when he's with his wife. He never mentioned being married, so the heroine feels sick at the thought of being a "homewrecker," (even though she did that by accident). That's a good set-up!

But, aside from them both being too boring, this book's problem is that the hero seemed weirdly weak. He and his wife live separate lives, have separate bedrooms, and she's blatantly cheating and he doesn't care. The reason he doesn't divorce her is because, when he tried to do that 4 years ago, his wife took their son away and refused to bring him back until he called off his divorce plans. So, he stays in this terrible marriage "for his son." This man is a famous profesional hockey player who has publicists and access to the best lawyers! You're telling me there was NOTHING he could have done within the past 4 years to make his wife comply?! It doesn't make sense. It makes him seem like a dumbass for being like "I'm trapped in this terrible marriage!" My dude, you're not! You had the resources and power to get out of it easily!

The characters were also annoying at communicating. For example, after the heroine learns that he's married and runs away, he follows her to explain. Obviously, he SHOULD begin his "explanation" by saying, "My marriage is a sham, my wife and I haven't had sex in years and live separate lives." Does this idiot do that? No! He blabbers on for a good 5 minutes, saying things to the heroine like "Our night together was special." That sounds like what a man who's cheating on his wife would say! The heroine was rightfully ready to kick him out after his speech, because he took forever to get to the point that his marriage is a sham. There was no reason for him to be so bad at getting to the point.

The writing was fine, which is why I gave it 2.5 stars. But, it was too flavorless for me to even give it 3 stars - 3-star books are sometimes books that I still remember or re-read, and this book will instantly fade from my mind. This is the second book I've tried by this author where the premise has been decently angsty, but the characters were too boring to make it land. So, this will be my last book from her.

I skipped the second one, Only One Chance, in this series because I don't think overly-obnoxious playboy-like heroes are cute (and the hero, Miller, gave me Mal Ericson vibes, a la Play).
description
So, on the third of the series... How was this one?
The heroine, "glad-her name-wasn't-shortened," is Evelyn
Suburgatory' Star Jane Levy on her First Season
The hero, "not-really-alpha, but meh," is Manning (ugh...I do not like the name & his character definitely did not help it)
Interview with actor Steve Lund of BITTEN! - AZNModern

Evelyn and Manning started out suspect, with the foul being done by Manning, for the most part. There is definitely too much of the dragon OW, which made the story suffer, and the hero, himself, for me at least, was the reason the story just didn't work out the way it could have: for I much prefer a hero who blows a fire torch to his baggage or at least already has a tight rein on it before he fully engages his possible forever...

Therefore, this is the 2nd NM series that I started with the first book being an okay read for me and with the subsequent books just fizzling out.

It's "so goes the formula" again and an underdeveloped-to-almost-bad story happened to characters who had potential.
