Swift #2

Cards of Love: The World

Rate this book
The Swift Family baseball dynasty is a Tennessee institution. But it’s brothers are known for more than their athletic prowess. First born Brick is tall, sexy, wealthy and intelligent. Unfortunately for the women of Memphis, he’s carrying old wounds that keep even the most remote chance for real love at a distance. As a respected sports agent, his athletes are the sole recipients of his attention.
January Jordan is at the top of her game. She recently negotiated the year’s biggest contract for her Memphis Mavericks client. Independent, funny, and free as a bird, she’s not looking for a man to fulfill her already satisfying life. There’s no time!
Then fate looks their way. A chance meeting ignites a flash fire between them that burns every excuse to ashes and makes denial impossible.
Oh, and that tarot card with the dancing figure found lying on the step of January’s house? Destiny’s greeting.

**CARDS OF LOVE COLLECTION ARE STANDALONE ROMANCES THAT BE READ IN ANY ORDER**

I enjoyed this romance! This is a fairly short listen which is perfect for those times when you want a nice complete story without committing to a longer book. I ended up listening to this book straight through and had a great time with it. I really liked that the couple in the book were both in their 40s and knew what they wanted out of life. This novella is part of the Swift series but would work perfectly well as a stand-alone as well.

This book features Brick and January. They both work as sports agents and have had their own success. January’s parents have recently died and she is working to get things packed up with her pregnant sister’s help. When Brick comes to help out, he seems to fit in perfectly. Brick and January have a lot of great chemistry together and I liked that there wasn’t a lot of unnecessary drama. I just loved watching them find their happily ever after together.

Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell are both excellent narrators and I thought that they did a fantastic job with this story. Their voices seem to compliment each other very well and I thought that they both did an amazing job in bringing the story’s characters to life. I loved the emotion that came through in their reading. I do believe that their narration added to my overall enjoyment of this story.

I would recommend this story to others. I thought that this was a really well-done novella with fantastic characters. The narration was top-notch and added a lot to the story. I cannot wait to read more of this author’s work.

I received a digital review copy of this book from the author/publicist.

Initial Thoughts
This was a nice, short romance. I listened to the audiobook and the two narrators did a fantastic job with the story.

A second chance at love! Brick thought he’d never get that again. Losing his wife Katy and their unborn child so tragically at thirty two he never contemplated love again.

But when the sassy and beautiful January enters his life he knows this is fate.

January is back home to pack up her parents home, sell and get back to her life as a sports agent in New York. She’s just as knocked for a loop as Brick.

Both in their forties. Love possibily couldn’t happen. Right?

Wrong. The world tarot card she found on her parents doorstep was leading her to where she belonged, with him.

Super fast read. Older couple who have their life together. No drama! Just steamy sweetest and a southern family thrown in to give them the nudge they need.

This was a fun and sexy novella! It tied in wonderfully with the Cards of Love series, as well as the author's Swift series. I first met the Swift family in The Curve and hoped that we would get a story for Brick. Although I recommend it, it's not necessary to read The Curve prior to enjoying The World.

I loved that Brick and January's story isn't high on drama or angst. They both knew what they wanted and didn't play games with each other. I also appreciated that the author featured characters that were both in their 40's and have established careers. It was nice not to have to worry about immature behavior or misunderstandings due to a lack of communication. It's not quite instalove, but things do progress quickly between Brick and January, even though Brick's tragic history has caused him to close himself off from love. They can't deny their chemistry though - both physically and mentally, and I really enjoyed their playful banter. The Swift family was amazing again and I love how close and supportive they all are. The epilogue was beautiful and will leave readers with happy hearts! Let's hope Bristol's story is coming next!

This is the second book in the Swift series. While each book covers an individual couple, they’re best enjoyed in order.

I preordered this the moment I finished The Curve. At just over 2.5 hours* this short novella is a low angst, fun, and deliciously steamy love story. I like the way Pike spreads the events over several months so that it doesn’t feel rushed. Brick (41) and January (40) have a witty and sexy friends-to-lovers relationship. Despite neither of them looking for anything serious, it’s obvious quickly that this time is different.

They were a great fit for each other and I loved listening to their HEA. Pike also delivers a fabulous epilogue - I love epilogues!

Narration:
Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden are perfect here. There’s an emotional scene for each of them and they both had me in tears. Lots of joking around and of course, amazing sex scenes. Love these two paired together.

* Length says 3hrs. The last 20 minutes are an excerpt from book 3, The Cannon.

Brick and January

This is a second chance love kind of story. Brick is so yummy. A real gentleman. But he does have a sad story. And January, well she is a breath of fresh air. The chemistry between these two is hot!! Because they meet at the young age of 40 is a blessing. The bantering is hilarious. I am really glad I decided to read this Cards of Love series.

4.5*

This was a terrific story. I loved how fun and flirty January and Brick were together, and how comfortable they were with each other right off the bat.
Because of the length of this novella the time moves forward fairly quickly, but it's not a case of "insta-love" really, although there is a definite case of insta-attraction which grows into something real, the more time January and Brick spend together.

I really enjoyed these two- I liked that they were established characters, confident in their careers and in themselves. Because they were more "mature" (both in their 40s), they didn't play any games (except those of the board variety!)- no back and forth, no silly drama, they were open and honest with each other about what they wanted. And when things between them changed, and they realized they did want more from each other, that openness served them well.

Cards of Love: The World was a feel-good story that left me with a smile, and maybe a tear or two!

***I didn't realize this book featured a character introduced in Ms. Pike's book The Curve, which I haven't read, so I definitely feel this can be read and enjoyed as a standalone.

¿Estoy siendo generosa con las dos estrellas? Probablemente.

Chau, barreras.
Hola, cabalgata a pelo.
Bienvenidas todas las consecuencias.
Colorín colorado el drama se ha acabado.
Demasiado empalagados.

This is a sweet and shorter love story. Leslie brings a friendship to love in a wonderful way. I loved January and Brick and their romance.

Brick has a past that is heartbroken but January just might be able to heal him. And January doesn't take crap from anyone. She works in a male-dominated world and is not looking for a relationship, but enjoyed her friendship with Brick. But when it becomes sexual is she ready for more?

Short but oh, so sexy; I fell very quickly in love with Brick and January. Their friends to lovers story had just the right amount of everything, and I found myself heating up at the sexual tension between them. Don’t let the size fool you, this little novella will have you hooked from beginning to end.

I am loving this Swift series! In this second book in the series, we get Atticus’ brother Brick’s story. Brick has an emotional past and his journey to love was sexy, sweet and heartwarming. I just loved how meeting January healed his heart from the loss in his past. Both he and January are sports agents. While initially neither were looking for anything serious the two connect instantly and it is clear from the beginning that they were always meant to be more.

There simply isn’t anything Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell narrate together that I don’t love. I have said this before and I will say it again Joe is a powerhouse narrator. His voice is smooth and silky in those intimate moments, and raw and emotional during the vulnerable ones. Maxine did a fantastic job as January. Her voice is bright and cheery and I loved her passionate and confident delivery. Such fantastic storytelling!

Bristol (the sister of Atticus and Brick) and Sawyer are up next in The Cannon and I cannot wait to listen to it next.

I am so excited to be back with the Swift family. Though this is part of a series, each book can be read as a standalone, as each is about a different couple. In The World, we get Brick Swift’s story. Brick is one sexy, smart and charming man. But due to old wounds, he keeps love at a distance.

January Jordan is a woman on a mission and she does not need a man. She has more important things to accomplish. But when a chance meeting happens, the sparks fly, even if they insist they are only friends. But their chemistry cannot be denied.

I loved both Brick and January. They were both smart, honest, and determined. Their story was full of witty banter, great characters and a story I loved. Though this is a novella, it was full story and one I highly recommend.

4.5 stars! Read and reviewed for Sultry Sirens Book Blog.

This is a sweet and sexy, quick read from Leslie Pike. Brick and January are two career driven individuals at the top of their game and not interested in relationships. But when these two meet, even if it is supposed to be all professional, there's a connection between them that neither can deny.

I love the strength of both of these characters, and their big personalities. Both Brick and January have experienced pain in their past and thought they were better off on their own, but as these two spend time together, first as friends, they learn that there really is room in their hearts for each other. I liked these two together, they definitely made me laugh and made me swoon. They are absolutely perfect for each other and made my heart happy! This is a quick, fun read that made me smile!

The Closer is a sweet, fun, quick read I adored. Brick and January meet through work and decide to be just friends. But they have such an intense attraction that it naturally leads to the next step.

Brick and January were so sweet together!! They have such great flirty banter that made me smile. Their attraction and chemistry was soooooo strong and hot, I felt it through the pages of my kindle! They do have some pain from their pasts and it was nice to see how them finding each other helped ease that pain.

I also loved seeing all the members of the family in this book. I really love them all and am enjoying their stories.

If you want a fun read that will make you smile, one click The Closer!

An event, a celebration and a game to pass the time.

Eyes across a crowded room, mischievous minds and jesting thoughts.

A meeting, an introduction and a new friend is found in a professional dog eat dog world.

Lines getting blurry as clauses are added. Hopeful families and life returning.

A beautiful swoonworthy read, a gradual building of minds and bodies. Truly magnificent.

Brick the man without a mask, no hidden agenda. A man of strength and weakness, humour and tights.

January, who walks the walk as heads turn left right and centre. The ball buster in business but behind the front is a true love godess.

If you only read one of the Cards of Love books.. it NEEDS to be this one!!

January and Brick are sports agents. They begin to get close, which means the sex starts. I liked this book, the main characters were great. I like that all the books in this series are all stand alone. I also like that in this book the couple from the previous book were in this book too. The steamy part didn't even bother me so much. That dreamy voice Joe Arden has kinda is a panty wetter and Maxine Mitchell matches Joe's voice perfectly. I can't wait to listen to the last book in the series. I'm not really into sport or sports romance but these short novella's are just right. They are highly recommended if you like sports romance, steamy romance and just all around good romance.

I love that this book was about people closer to my age, then in their early twenties. I like how he says she's going to need to give him 15 minutes or so for round 2 because he is 41 after all. My life! lol!! It was a sweet love story that evolved from an easy friendship, and a happy ending for Brick, who REALLY needed one. And the ending... I actually didn't see it coming, and I LOVED it! It was perfect. Good things come to those who wait. <3 I always enjoy a book from Leslie Pike! She never disappoints!

Well this was just sweet and quite lovely. Nothing about the story screams wow, but it was a nice read. Do I wish it was a bit sexier on the page? Oh yeah! I think January and Brick would have made for some seriously hot sexy scenes. But no matter, it was still a very sweet and emotional story.

Brick is the guy you can’t get enough of: A sensitive soul hidden behind an aloof protective façade with a heart of gold. And January is the one who helps him break out of his shell to learn to love again. I loved this story and listened to it in one sitting. Like all of the books in this series it help my attention from start to finish. Yet I wanted it to be longer. I felt there was so much that could have been addressed with Brick’s tragic past that was a missed opportunity. Given his history I thought he would struggle more with a fear of loving again. Even though I thought the story could have been deeper, It was still a great listen and will be on my repeats in the future. Bricks is achingly sweet and romantic and I fell hard for that guy.
Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell are always an awesome pairing. They did not disappoint in this book. That narration duo is always an automatic purchase for me.

Fantastic Story & Narration🎧 Gripping & Heartwarming!

The Closer
Swift Series, Book 2
By: Leslie Pike
Narrated by: Joe Arden, Maxine Mitchell

Leslie Pike knocks it out of the park with this wonderful addition to her Swift series and this novella sized book packs a punch and an impressive amount of story. This second book is Brick’s story, it piqued my curiosity after meeting and hearing about him in the first book, “The Curve”, his brother Atticus’ story. Brick is a sports agent and is great at what he does, closing some of the best of deals for his athletes, but can he close and seal the deal with the first woman who not only caught his attention but made him feel for the first time in years. January Jordan is back in town and is negotiating a contract for her Memphis Maverick client, it is her hometown and she will stay there for several months to empty her parents’ home, her childhood home, readying it to be put up for sale. Brick was also at that meeting and January intrigued him, there are few female sports agents in the industry so that and the way she handles herself impressed him. He wanted to get to know her better and once the two get together and there is some serious chemistry between them. But she is going back to New York, and he has not had or wanted a relationship after his tragic loss. But this did not stop them from spending some time together and but with chemistry that strong, they could only deny each other for so long. I loved how everything played out in this book, it is a wonderfully written and plotted romance, the story flowed naturally and it was great to watch their relationship grow and blossom right under their eyes in the most heartwarming of ways. Leslie Pike, thank you for another amazing story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the wonderful narration, Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell’s outstanding performance continues as they bring these characters and their story to life. They have a complete understanding of the characters they portrayed, giving each a voice that is a perfect fit for that character’s persona, sounding believable and just as I picture the character to sound. Joe Arden nails it as Brick, grasping his demeanor with perfection, Maxine Mitchell plays January’s role with perfection as well. They set the perfect tone for the story, capture all the characters’ emotions and project them into their performance, making you feel every single one. These superbly talented narrators are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another amazing listen.

The Closer is a short, sweet, sexy novella and is book two in the Swift series by the incredibly talented Ms Leslie Pike. This is the friends-to-lovers, second chance romance story of Brick Swift and January Jordan.
Brick is a very successful sports agent and on the outside he has it all together, however inside he’s barely treading water since a tragic accident changed the course of his life forever. He’d resigned himself to the fact he’d loved and lost his one true love and now he’s in his 40’s didn’t expect to feel again until he met Ms January Jordan, a fellow sports agent. A woman who is just as successful as he is and is carrying her own baggage.
January’s life is the perfect balance of good and bad. She has a highly established, successful career in a male dominated field; however, she has given up on love after a failed marriage, that is until she meets Brick at a work function when she travels back home to Memphis for both work and pleasure. The two are drawn to one another and there is a real strong connection, steamy hot chemistry and lots of great witty banter from the outset.
Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell breath life into Brick and January and as always, they were magnificent. Joe never fails to draw all the emotions out of my icy black heart and had me all up in my feels, he also knows how to step it up a gear in order to play your body and mind in the most delicious ways with his incredible performances and his portrayal of Brick is no exception. Maxine was the perfect choice for January, and she performed the hell out of the sexy, sensual, boss babe who is killing it in a male dominated career. Maxine is an amazing actress and does a phenomenal job of not only bringing the characters she plays to life but also has you feeling everything like you are right there living the story. I love this pairing together, their voice’s complement each other perfectly. You always know a story and its characters are in safe hands.
I loved Brick and January’s story so very much, it was sweet, funny and packed full of emotion and love. So much so that in this short novella I laughed, cried, swooned and fell hard and fast for the hero and heroine, plus it was also lovely to catch up with the Swift family. The epilogue was simply perfect and I’m chomping at the bit to dive into Bristol’s story in The Cannon.

I was excited to get the second audiobook in this series. I couldn’t wait to see what our author was going to do as a follow up to The Curve. Then my two favorite narrators return for the next inning. This time Mr. Arden is related to the male character from Curve and Ms. Mitchell shows that women can work in a man’s world. Between the author’s story and our narrators reading to me, I was hooked before the first chapter was even over.

Brick is the man that works in the athlete’s best interest. He has a soft spot for a man that we may only “meet” briefly but it shows his compassion. January, interesting choice for the name of our main character, is a woman who makes you realize to never make assumptions. They are two people that seem so comfortable with the other. Our author shows that you can be over the age of 30 and have a chance at romance – life isn’t over after a certain age.

If you like to watch America’s favorite pastime, this book will be lover long before the game is finished. But if you do a marathon of the whole series, you might get a little closer to nine innings. But if you need help passing the time as you’re trying to get through chores, you can’t go wrong by listening to this novella – I know it did mine.

I loved listening to how their relationship started and grew as the chapters went by. Our narrators did a great job in conveying their chemistry. This is something the spoken word can do for a reader as opposed to reading the words ourselves. We get just enough to give us a chuckle or two so that we’re not laughing at the characters but with them.

This was a sweet read that was over way before I was ready for it to be. Good thing is that I have another book to look forward to in the Swift series. Then as I’m working out in the yard more, I can do a marathon instead of thinking how humid the day is and how much I hate raking leaves. It even makes the commute to work more pleasurable.

I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

I most definitely loved this one!💕💕

(Audio Review)
‘The Closer’ is the second book within the ‘Swift’ series. Each book, however, can be read as a standalone.

In ‘The Closer’, Brick (who is widowed at the beginning of the book) finally gets a second chance at love. After his first love, Brick has closed himself off to love, and he puts all his focus on his career as a sports agent. However, this all changes when he meets January.

Although, it isn’t necessarily an insta-love story, their attraction and relationship progress pretty quickly. Which I liked in this context, as they both knew what they wanted and went with it. Also, the fact that they’re older characters meant they were very mature in the way they interacted with each other. I just loved their relationship!

As with the first book, the rest of the Swift family make brief appearances. Again, I love the family’s close-knit dynamics, interactions, and the banter.

What I liked the most about this book was how sweet the characters were to each other. I also loved how this book featured 40+ main characters, as this is not usually the most popular age for characters in this genre.

As with the first book, the narration was bomb! Narrated by Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell, both narrators were fantastic. I felt they provided the audiobook with the perfect emotions and kept me entertained throughout.

Overall, I loved this book and I highly recommend it, especially the audiobook version.

I was provided a free advanced audio copy of this book. However, all opinions shared are my honest thoughts about this book.

In Tennessee, the family name Swift carries a lot of power as they are known as Baseball legends. The oldest brother Brick is a sports agent and one of the very best, the only thing he lacks as his family suggests is the power to love as after a bad relationship call he has closed his heart to the world. January Jordan is also a sports agent and is giving Brick a run for his money as she might be better than he is at the game. She is based in New York but has come home to Memphis to help pack up her family home along with her sister Summer and get it all to sell. On the first day, she finds a solo tarot card on the front porch of the house - that card was "The World." January isn't much for signs, unlike her sister Summer who thrives on them and will to January's dismay a big deal out of the card and her budding friendship with Brick. Is this an HEA for Brick and January or a romantic fling? Can Brick be January's World and vice versa? I have to admit , I have only read three of the Cards of Love collection so far, and this one will have to be my least favorite as I found the story a bit too slow-paced for my liking and it took me more than a few days to read which for someone who usually can read a book in a day or a matter of hours - that is saying something.
However in saying that, if you are like me and wanting to make your way through the Cards of Collection series or have read Leslie Pike's previous Swift book, then check out The World.

This short quick audiobook was sweet and steamy, friends to lovers romance. This was my first time listening to a Leslie Pike audiobook. The Closer is the second book in the Swift Series, featuring Brick Swift and January Jordan, two sports agents in their 40s who find love again. I loved every minute of it. Brick and January had great chemistry from the start. I enjoyed the “When Harry Met Sally” references, as I recently watched the movie. Brick and January’s easy going friendship was so cute and the quick slow burn made it unforgettable. Brick has a tragic past and is afraid to love again and January is not looking for love. The two find their way to each other and give each other something they never thought would have again.

The narration by Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden is wonderful. They really captured the emotions for January & Brick. Joe Arden is so dreamy as Brick. He can be flirty and charming, but still have the broody sadness over the loss he carries. It was so captivating to listen. Maxine Mitchell as January was perfect. She brought out January’s sassy, funny side and also showed her strength and dedication to her family, friends and work. Joe and Maxine were brilliant. They just made you fall involve with not only Brick and January, but also the whole Swift & Jordan families. I am excited to listen to the next book in the Swift series. Definitely will be adding Leslie Pike to my TBR.

I am head over heels for Brick & January!

I am a huge fan of Leslie Pike. I have read and loved all of her books. With each new release, I swear it is her best work yet. Cards of Love: The World is no different. Exceptional! Every word of this impeccably articulated story had me swooning. I read it in one sitting!

This is my second read in the Cards of Love series. I absolutely love how the Taro cards are integrated into these stories. It's a refreshing change and now I want to read them ALL.

I first met Brick in The Curve. Which is the first book of the Swift series about Brick's brother Atticus. Brick is closed off to the possibility of love after a tragic loss. He's handsome, successful and content to distract himself with work. Until January Jordan catches his eye. The sparks are mutually tamed at first while these two to kindle a "friendship". However, it is clear they are a match made in heaven if only either of them can open their hearts & minds to it. The build up is scrumptious. Together they laugh and exchange witty banter laced with innuendo. Physically and emotionally they both light up - it's fantastic. Heartwarming. Loved every word!

Will these two amazing characters find love and their new beginning? Or will their work and different home bases keep them at arms length? This is a must read!

The Closer
Swift Series book 2
By Leslie Pike
Narrated by Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell

Short and sweet, this book packs it all in and gives us all the feels. Brick has not considered getting back in the game since the death of his wife. He is fully devoted to his clients and just isn't going to make the time for a relationship. Then he meets January. Ambitious, beautiful and so much in common, he finds himself unable to fight off the attraction. She is only in town to pack up her parents' home, so nothing could come of this, right? But when friendship turns romantic, stealing the bases may be the next play! What happens next is just the perfect pitch. This couple is a little older, which makes this listen for me even better. They both have a good sense of who they are separate and it's so much fun to see the meld together! And the ending is just icing on the cake. It's a fantastic story at a second chance at happiness and a great addition to this series.

Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell continue their narration of this series. Their chemistry oozes straight into this couple, making it impossible for us not to feel it. Arden plays Brick with that wall around his heart and we can feel it melt! January is hesitant, but wiling and Mitchell uses her nuances to make it happen. Love this team when they narrate together. It truly is magic.

Pike knocks it out of the park yet again. This is book 2 in Pike's Swift series and while this is considered a sports romance there really wasn't much to do with sports in this one but rather I got a wonderful family vibe. I adore the dynamic between our main characters Brick and January but as wonderful as their story is I think the families stole the show. Brick's family is so warm and welcoming and each is so unique and January has such a wonderful bond with her sister which was wonderfully included. I love that these two main characters are not so young but are in their early 40's and come thru as real people rather than fictional characters. I also am reviewing the audio version of this read and I have to say that dual narration is always better and these two did these characters and this book to perfection! A perfect balance of sweet, steam and laughter that can hopefully be found in every readers life this book has it all and I can't wait to see what Pike will do next!

I received a free copy of this book at my request and I voluntarily provided this review.

I'll keep this review simple, short, and sweet. I enjoyed this fun and sexy novella. I am new to author Leslie Pike and this was a great way to be introduced to her work. While The Closer is the second book in her Swift Series and can be read as a standalone, I would recommend reading The Curve prior to this one.

The Closer is a story about getting a second chance love; a love that Brick Swift never thought he'd have a chance at again. That is until January Jordan came into his life. These two knew exactly what they wanted and didn't beat around the bush playing games with each other. Their story is isn't high on angst and drama but is high on chemistry and playful banter.

This book is narrated by Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell. These two together is always magic. They are perfect for Brick and January. Joe really brings Brick's tragic story to life. Mr. Arden does not shy away from tragedy and really pulls all the stops when it comes to the emotional. Maxine is truly amazing as January Jordan. Her character is a breathe of fresh air and Maxine is pure perfection. I can't imagine anyone else bringing January life.

3.5 ⭐️s - short and sweet

The eldest Swift sibling’s story is very much a short and sweet morsel. Despite a dropped thread or two (what happened with the tarot card?), this was a fun read/listen. Brick and January are a well-matched pair. Despite the brevity of the story, their relationship was given a little room to grow and how it did so felt natural. These were just two truly good people finding each other a little later in life (love that they are both in their forties); they both have similar and fulfilling careers and strong family ties and other qualities that make them a great match, first as friends and then as something more. Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell do a fine job once again bringing the central couple to life. They are both talented performers, and I enjoyed them both very much, but the edge this time around I think goes to Mitchell. Her portrayal of January really added something extra to the character. Overall, I recommend this read/listen.

I received an ALC from Home Cooked Books.
