Go-getter Georgia Paxton has ten days to acquire a quaint hotel in the Scottish Highlands for her travel accommodation company before she’s off on her next grand adventure. Too bad the sexy, broody Scot who owns the place is dead against the idea…and that she’s in very real danger of losing their little bet to see who can convince whom first.

There’s no way Callum MacGregor is going to let the gorgeous American turn his tiny hometown over to bored tourists looking to satisfy their Outlander fantasies. He only has ten days to convince her to slow down and see the magic of the town and its people. If he succeeds, he won’t have to run her out of the county. I love curling up and reading all books--no genre is off-topic. I like ironing, I hate peas, love donkeys, I play a killer game of Scrabble. I'm a kiwi who has lived most of my life in Australia and now am in the US. I will often be heading towards the fridge for another Diet Coke. I eat nothing with legs and believe wine goes with everything, oh and I'm an expert at finding new and inventive ways to avoid exercise.

I live in the sparkly beach side suburb of Redondo Beach in California with my infuriating shoe-dropping husband and my two boys who speak in mystifying grunts.

Ten Days with the Highlander is my first book by Hayson Manning. I will warn you ahead of time, if you read this, be prepared to fight the urge to pack your bags and head for Scotland.

Ten Days With The Highlander - Hayson Manning

Georgia Paxton was raised by wanderlust, hippie-type parents that dragged their two daughters from place to place always looking for something better. Georgia’s sister is happy staying in one place but not Georgia. She seems to have inherited her parents need to stay on the move. She works for LiveAbout, a short-term vacation rental accommodation company. Her job is to go from place to place acquiring new properties for her company. She is a deal closer, never fails to deliver. Her latest job is to go to Glenlagen, Scotland to hopefully convince a hotel owner there to sell his hotel to them. It’s a tiny village that tourists would love.

Callum MacGregor tried the corporate world but hated it. So he is back home in the little village he grew up in and couldn’t be happier. He owns the old hotel and pub. He has renovated the pub but the hotel is still a work in progress. The people of the little town are all like family and they look out for one another. His newest customer is a woman from America that is staying two weeks. She smells like coconut and sunshine.

“Callum! I’m not lost.”
“Georgia Paxton, I think you’re very lost. You just don’t know it.”

When the truth comes out why Georgia is in town, Callum is adamant that there is no way he will ever be interested in Georgia’s proposition. What would bringing tourists into their little town accomplish? They would destroy the beautiful landmarks. There town is safe, no one locks their doors. That would all be lost with strangers constantly in town. So, he makes a deal with Georgia. During her ten day stay, he will show her his town, and convince her that change is not what they need. And she vows that within those ten days, she will convince Callum that change is in deed, what they need.

“Everything about this woman was slowly undoing him, one screw at a time.”

First of all, I couldn’t help but to fall in love with Callum and with this little town. Callum has a pet goat that rides around in the car with him. And then there is always that whole Scottish thing. I mean, sexy man in a kilt! Count me in! He and Georgia can only ignore the chemistry between them for so long. And when they finally give in to it, it’s a beautiful thing. But she’s a corporate girl, and he’s a country guy. She’s leaving and he’s not.

“This had felt different. Magical. Perfect. Like it was meant to be.”

This was such a sweet, cute, sexy story. I most definitely don’t enjoy the cold, rainy types of climate but this author made it seem perfect. And the towns people and the way they just accepted Georgia right into their midst was so sweet. She’s never felt like she belonged anywhere or with anyone. But there, in Glanlagen, she belonged.

I completely enjoyed this book and most definitely hope to read more from this author. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to get packing to go and find me my own highlander.

I loved this book! It was just what I was looking for - a completely safe romance with a fabulous H. He was a catch :) I couldn't put the book down. I also really enjoyed the Scottish folklore that was included. The only thing missing for me was an epilogue further into the future.

This was the first time I've read anything from this author and it will not be the last. Thank you Carol [Goodreads Addict] for writing a review and bringing this one to my attention!

I am such a sucker for anything related to Scotland. TEN DAYS WITH A HIGHLANDER brought me back to one of my favourite places in the whole world! Manning did a great job capturing the spirit of the highlands, and even though this book was quick, fast paced and light, I still loved every minute of it!

Cute story. Very charming characters and very low on angst. Great dialogue and Scotland! Loved the setting on the story. It's a tad too sweet for my mood though. I definitely still liked it but didn't love it.

I love scottish guys *Gerard Butler*
Callum was super sweet, yummy and all around good-guy. Georgia is a smart and ambitious business woman who loves to travel. She lands in Scotland to scope out Callum's small town and live in his ancestral hotel.
There is a conflict in theit outlook but inspite of that, there are sparks. I love how they work together and build a friendship/relationship. This book was so much fun to read and made me want to book the next flight to scotland.
Highly recommended!!

Aye please. Ten Days is over the top fantastic and will make you book your trip to Scotland pronto!
Go find your own Callum, he's mine. Him and his magic wand. Dear baby J, this book!!! Hayson hit her stride with this one, the book is just thick with romance and humor done in the best possible way.
Trust me on this one.

Georgia is a moving target, her job as an acquisition rep for a large resort firm, she travels about from place to place targeting potential real estate for her company and never loses a deal; until she butts heads with Callum. They meet when Georgia has a little difficulty driving on the left side of the road and ends up marooned and Callum helps her out. She's more than impressed with this tall, handsome Scotsman, so imagine her surprise when she finds out he owns the Inn she's trying to acquire. Imagine his surprise when he finds out who she is. Then imagine the sparks that fly between these two. The Inn is a work in progress, Callum has taken his time restoring everything, first things first. The place has so much character, the story so well written, you can see the hearth in the keeping room in your minds eye. Callum also owns the local Pub, which he also rebuilt when he moved back to town. They serve food and every night is something different. The town is small, Callum has done the corporate world and had enough and came back to get away from the money and the trappings.
The Inn also comes complete with chickens and a resident goat named Delilah who loves to joy ride in the car. His Mum still lives in town and everyone knows everyone and looks out for each other.

Georgia's upbringing is an unusual one, her parents uprooted her and her sister constantly in searching of a better aura and higher energy. Georgia learned never to attach herself to anything and truly fears that close connection, and especially the one she feels with Callum. She fits right in with the town, helps out at the pub, mispronounces the names of the brews and some of the foods and friday is spotted dick night and she can't wait. The innuendo in the book will have you rolling with laughter. They banter the two of them and it's so good. Her phone alarm songs give you a whole new set of things to laugh at. You have to read the book.
She still thinks she can win Callum over with her plan and some of the town people don't seem to mind it so much, it would bring more money into some of their purses as well. Callum is so hell bent on protecting what he thinks needs protecting he fails to consider other things and Georgia. These two trainwreck in a big way. Callum can be as stubborn as a donkey and wow does it creep out when you don't expect it. Callum gets the last word in and Georgia goes awol. Gets in her car, takes Delilah with her and off they go.

Read the book... it's an absolute must read and I loved every single minute I was in it. I loved every character, the whole story line and hot damn Callum, his sweaters and whiskers. And yes he does have a kilt, no I don't know what's under it, and I want to know... more importantly what do they keep in the black bag around their waist? Spare undies? I don't know. We all need a little Callum in our lives and a nice dish of spotted dick!

Take one Callum and do not call in the morning. Georgia's ringtone will wake you up!

Happy reading!!!

Ten Days with the Highlander by Hayson Manning is an enchanting contemporary romance. No angst and a little folklore from a bucolic location make this romance predictable yet very alluring. I fell in love with the quirky inhabitants of the small village in an isolated area of Scotland, and rooted along with them for Georgia and Callum.

Georgia Paxton’s unconventional upbringing makes her the perfect candidate for her job. Her wanderlust makes a life on the road not just tolerable, but exciting for her. “In and out” in the two weeks it usually takes her to seal the deal, she effectively avoids relationships of any kind. The beautiful and intelligent commitment-phobe thinks she has her life figured out until she meets the not-so-stodgy owner of her latest professional hunt.

Callum MacGregor is a ruggedly handsome innkeeper who knows what he wants, and that is not necessarily a fat bank account. He escaped the all-consuming corporate quest for financial gain in order to slip back into a more simple way of life where neighbors look out for one another and no one needs to lock a door. Callum couldn’t be more attractive; he is the perfect blend of chivalry, kindness, and respectfulness. The folklore and old ways of his village are charming, but the real draw for Callum is the loving, caring community in which he is ensconced.

The best part about romance novels is that two people who actively hide from commitment and who are seemingly in search of the polar-opposite life goals, can fall in love. It gives all of us hope that we will find someone for whom we are willing to make compromises and for whom we would welcome change. I loved the chemistry between Georgia and Callum. Their teasing and double entendres were fun. The sage advice and astute observations rom the villagers are delightful—especially Mavis’ inspirational notes that are hand sewn into beanies specifically chosen for the recipient. The only aspect of this lovely book that didn’t work for me was the somewhat graphic sex scenes. The intimacy didn’t arrive too early, however, the segue into Georgia and Callum’s first act of intimacy didn’t feel organic. The addition of detailed descriptions of their intimacy didn’t feel inline with the overall tone of the book.

Ten Days with the Highlander has the same feel of the 1983 movie Local Hero (American corporate executive falls in love with local(s) in the charming village that they would have destroyed through modernization). While the premise may not be so new, the quality of Ms. Manning’s writing, the character development, and the story pace make for a very charming book that I would happily read again. If for no other reason, read this book in preparation for your next vacation; Ten Days with the Highlander will have you plotting to find your own hot Scot in a kilt!

This book was the perfect escape I was looking for. It was fun and sweet with a dash of sexy. It had some drama and angst, but for the most part, it was a pretty light read. I enjoyed getting lost in the story and the characters.

This is my first book by this author and I look forward to reading more of her books in the future.

A heartwarming story, perfect to curl up with on a cold winter's day. Easy reading, quick and witty, light relief for between more angsty and involved reads. I enjoyed the wordplay between the hero and heroine, and the lovely small town characterisations.

Hayson Manning has been on my author to read list for awhile now. I finally got my chance to read her with Ten Days with the Highlander. Unfortunately, the book and my personality didn't mix well together.

If I say “no” to something or someone that's it. End of story. You're risking your life and the lives of future generations if you keep pushing. Georgia isn't an accept “no” kind of girl. She just kept pushing and pushing until I started not to like her. But wait. I’m getting ahead of myself.

Georgia Paxton is the top salesperson for her company LiveAbout because she doesn't take “no” for an answer. She arrives in Glenlagan, Scotland and appears to not have done any research on the place. I honestly don’t know where the idea came from for her to travel to Scotland and purchase the hotel of Callum MacGregor. Georgia wants to take this quiet quaint little town and turn it into a tourist mecca.

Callum MacGregor has done the corporate thing and barely survived with his soul. He loves his hometown the way it is and doesn't want to have it changed by tourists arriving and trampling all over it. He knows first hand what corporate greed can do and wants to protect the elders in town.

After Callum turns down Georgia’s offer, he’s nice enough to show her around town, hoping that she will appreciate all of its history and beauty. But Georgia is all business and truly can’t see the beauty in things. She thinks money is the key to everything.

As I mentioned, I had a little trouble with Georgia and her pushiness. I also didn’t like that at times, the Scottish characters came off sounding like Americans trying to be Scottish.

Here’s what I liked about Ten Days with the Highlander ~ The meet cute in the beginning was definitely something I could see myself doing. It brought a smile to my face. There’s a goat!!! I never would have thought that I would like a goat being in a romance book, but I did. She didn’t even eat anything and she had this charming little obsession. The back and forth banter between Callum and Georgia was what made the book worth reading. It allowed you to see how good they could be together. I liked the way that the conflict between them was resolved and it was rather sweet.

I initially expected this to be a historical novel, but it isn't. Instead, Georgia works for a company that seems very similar to another one that rents vacation rentals, and she is in Scotland to convince Callum that he wants to sell to their corporation.

Callum and Georgia do not see the small Scottish town in the same way. Georgia sees a town that needs more: more shops, more tourists, more business, more life. Callum sees a town that is ok the way it is, a town that he sees as his own personal refuge from a life he didn't want, and the life that Georgia represents.

What I loved is that through the course of the book, they both bend a little to see the town, and one another, through the eyes of each other. If that makes sense.

I liked the townspeople and the facets that they gave to the book, but at the same time, I thought there was a little too much of them for the length of the book. Usually I am saying it should have been cut out in favor of more with the central couple, but in this case, I think the book would have been better served to be a little longer, to keep the people in the town while building a little more up with the relationship with Georgia and Callum.

I did enjoy this overall, but I felt there was a little bit lacking in the relationship of the main characters and as a result, the end felt a little unrealistic and rushed.

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

Georgia arrives at Callum's little village with the intent to get him to sign up his hotel with her company so that she can make him some big bucks and bring tourists to the village. Callum has left the corporate life and that is the last thing that he wants!

It was fun to watch as they are each on opposite ends of this "war" and Callum offers Georgia ten days to change his mind. She really is single minded in trying to show her presentations to Callum even after he works long hours at the pub!

I loved that Georgia pitches in and helps Callum out and gets to know the other people in the village. Each of the villagers is an interesting character and you love each of them! You can see both their sides of this disagreement and wonder how they are going to work this out.

Georgia also has an aversion to staying in one place to long so you wonder how she will finally agree to staying in a little village and settle down with Callum. They are at such different places in their life so it is an interesting journey as they closer to each other.

It was hard to put the book down as I wanted to see how they could gap the divide between them. I loved that they each gave a little to the other so they had a great compromise that they both could live with. The setting was great and made me wish that I could visit Callum's hotel!

Hayson Manning has done it again! She gives us a fun, spunky heroine in Georgia. This woman has brains and heart. She knows who she is, and what she needs to be happy--and it's not a quiet life in a small town in Scotland--which is why she's irritated with herself when her attraction to a man she's supposed to convince to do business with her travel company turns into something deeper.

Callum's a rugged highlander with a heart of gold! He's fascinated by Georgia's energy, her ambition, and her...er...taste in music. But he's done with globe trotting and trying to climb corporate ladders. He wants his small inn, his small town, and everything the way it's always been.

But MAN do opposites attract, especially in the hands of Ms. Manning! It's inevitable, the way they fall for each other, but it's also fun, and sweet and a beautiful lesson on the power of love to shape one's desires, and the power of compromise to make those desires work! Plus, c'mon...a big, burly beard in a kilt? How can I resist?

This is a delightful book filled with plenty of charm that fans of the genre will adore. Georgia is an aggressive business woman who is a top performer at her company. She was raised by parents that relocated whenever the mood struck them, so never had the opportunity to put down roots. Now, as an adult, she no longer wants to put down roots and loves her traveling lifestyle. Then she travels to Scotland and meets Callum, the inn owner that is strongly locked in the past and refuses any change. The sparks fly between them, even as they disagree intently over making changes to the inn and the town.

This is a sweet story with just a bit of spice that is just in time for your perfect summer read. Add this one to your list - you'll be glad you did. The author is on my must read authors' list.

A smexy, playful 10 days in Scotland's highlands, with a mythical grotto, futile searches for a solid "bar," finding a charming pub and genuine community instead.

Inexplicably drawn to each other. Mutual, consensual oogling ensues, whilst holding on tight to opposite lifestyles and goals. The question dangles not when but who will cave first...the Corporate or the Sofa?

Very quickly, our H/h unexpectedly come to a very real crossroads *sigh*

This one is worthy of your reading time to find out whose lifestyle choice wins out, Georgia or Callum's ;)

Here's a hint...everybody wins.
Even Delilah the goat and Hello Kitty.

My first time reading this author. The cover and blurb drew me in, but the romance made me a fan!

So cute. So fun. So completely entertaining! Georgia Paxton has ten days to convince Callum McGregor to sell his quaint little hotel to her company. Then her bosses will be in town to wrap things up. Too bad he's dead set against it. Maybe a little wager will sweeten the deal!!

These two characters are so fun together I hated to see the book end. This is a nice quick paced story that is very well done. I think everyone will enjoy it.

A cute novella. Great characters. Some plot issues.

This is a 192 page novella and we don’t waste too much time with background of our main characters, except brief notes here and here. I really enjoyed how Georgia and Callum played off each other. For the most part, they were sweet and playful. Even the secondary characters make a decent showing even without too much depth of character. Like actors, these characters did their best to be likable and try to give a depth of presence. So the characters themselves made the romance as long as you didn’t get too caught in many of the plot issues that didn’t make much sense to me.

Georgia represents a travel company? and she was sent to Callum’s hotel to buy it? but he was going to run it? We don’t waste too much time for details of what kind of company it is except that they would be bringing tourists and Georgia had to find things for the tourists to do in this small town on the butt end of Scotland. We also know that Georgia’s company wanted to make all the rooms smaller in Callum’s Inn and double the amount to a whopping eight, yes eight, rooms. As Georgia was the only one staying there for her ten days, there really isn’t a rush on this very sleepy town with no wifi and shitty cell service. Let’s start with the fact that she is approaching a man who is refurbishing the grandeur of what is, at best, a bed and breakfast. If you are going to cut these rooms in half, and put in a bathroom for each room, they will the size of a roomy closet. I would have found it more believable if Georgia was secretly there to scout out another building for the company to take over and create a lavish hotel for their special travel guests.

Callum tells her from the beginning that he has no interest in selling to her or having her travel company come and invade their town with rotten tourists. Yet she constantly believes that once she can sit Callum down to see her presentation, he will jump at the chance to sign up. But Callum also owns the local pub (which he has also refurbished) and when he isn’t taking care of his one guest, he is over there serving drinks and making sure everything is taken care of. So Callum doesn’t get back to the Inn until wee hours of the morning and he is too tired for her presentation.

When he does have free time, he decides to show Georgia the highlights of their little town, which she loves and takes pictures of for her brochure, while Callum points out how tourists will trample on and destroy the landscape and take advantage of the gullible and friendly locals.

Georgia also comes to town with no idea of the weather. She does’t have decent clothes for hiking the landscape and for being out in the cold and wet. I have no idea how she became the heavy hitter for this company in charge of closing deals and setting up travel package. She seems a little too flighty.

Two things that did annoy me: one, Georgia is driving out of town to find some other town that would appreciate what she could bring to them and she crashes her car avoiding farm animals in the road. She has no signal so she has to walk all the way back to town in the dark and cold rain and everyone is frantic that she disappeared. BUT…once Georgia left the town, she got a signal and was talking to her BFF in America about her relationship with Callum. Then she lost the signal and shortly thereafter, she crashed her car. So…she just lost the signal, shouldn’t she have just walked about 100 feet down the road back the way she came, and been able to call Callum to come help her? Her phone didn’t die. She lost signal. The signal should have still be available when she walked back.

Number two, Callum is showing Georgia around town and the fae grove where couples drink from a special fae well and do a little ceremony and are thereafter married by the fae. This is one of those sacred local traditions and all the locals who did this are still married, yada, yada, and it is so sacred that Callum performs the ritual with Georgia while she is having fun taking her promo pictures. Later in the story, Callum is thinking about how he will one day do this with someone special and realizes that he ruined the special moment by doing it as part of Georgia’s promos. In fact, it is so special, that the whole town keeps asking when the actual wedding is. So if this was so sacred a marriage tradition, why would Callum do it with Georgia with no hesitation. She didn’t sweet talk or seduce him into it. She’s just “let’s do it.”

I know I am asking a lot of my $.99 find, but the characters were sweet and even the secondary characters were kookie and nice. Georgia was bubbly and kind and her pushing her tourist trap crap was very ham-handed and very out of character.

Sadly, with a little tweaking it could have been a better story and is just a waste of good characters when it doesn’t flow right.

A cute and quirky contemporary romance!

I loved Georgia and Callum's meet cute (having just taught Mini Moe #2 to parallel park, I shudder to think about trying to do the same on the other side of the road...) and that there's not one, but two adorable pets here; Hello Kitty (a cat, natch) and Delilah (a goat! I never thought I'd be such a goat fan, but OMG she was awesome). Their nicknames for each other were on the strange side (I get the reasoning, but "Corporate" and "Sofa"?) but their banter was cute and their chemistry solid, even though their relationship was a bit insta-y ("Ten Days" after all. It's built right in there). Ms Manning did a good job of making us see both of their sides in the main argument, though I had a tendency to side more on Callum's side their eventual resolution was a good one and led to a sweet ending.

Georgia's reason for not staying in Scotland/with Callum was a bit aggravating--sure he's perfect, this place is perfect, I'm feeling the "L" word, but in a year I'll probably be bored and want to leave because that's what I do--it went on for longer than it felt like it should and did have me rolling my eyes a bit. Fortunately, both Callum and I managed to stick it out anyway and a cute HEA for everyone was our reward.

Looking forward to the next book in the series--I wonder where Ms Manning will take us next? :)

American corporate lady tries to convince Scottish B&B owner to franchise his hotel. The story was quite cute, but I would have preferred a HFN rather than the intense HEA we got. I find it rather weird how easily they decided they loved each other and belonged together after about six days. It was all a bit much and over-dramatic for my taste.

Spoiler for the resolution of the story: I dislike how often romance heroines just instantly give up their entire careers for the hero - in this case after just one week! The heroine becomes the barmaid in Callum's pub; this all seems a bit too effortless for someone so ambitious. It would have been much more suitable for her to find a compromise between her career and her love life, rather than just quitting on the spot. It didn't seem right.

Ten Days With the Highlander (Love Abroad) by Hayson Manning

Georgia is out of her element and in over her head.  Business brought her to the Scottish Highlands.  Beautiful scenery, a brooding Scotland and a fiery attraction are just an added bonus, but when her heart becomes involved, she's forced to rethink her priorities.  Callum serves as the perfect guide for a romantic adventure. Easy on the eyes, fatal to the heart and addictive to the sweet tooth.  Ten Days With the Highlander is a trip worth taking.

I had a huge smile on my face from the first paragraph to the last. I enjoyed this book so much and the chemistry between Callum and Georgia was through the roof.

Georgia is in Scotland to convince Callum to turn his rustic hotel into the next tourist spot. But Callum was in Georgia’s shoes before… all corporate, no real life… and he’s determined to show her that his life is the better way to live.

The banter, the looks, the towns people, thesexy times… this whole book had me on cloud nine. I highly recommend this book and can’t wait to read more from this author!

This was a nice easy read which I felt was a well-written enjoyable tale.

This was the first book I have read by the lovely Hayson Manning but I am on the lookout for more….

As someone who loves to watch the Christmas movies on TV from mid October this was just my style of light hearted romance where you know the plot within the first few pages but you still need to keep reading just in case.

Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this lovely romance.

Georgia has no problem sharing her talents with Callum, “did I ever tell you I learned barrel racing?” She kissed her way across his hard stomach, and he hissed out a breath. “I can ride, really ride. Once my thighs are clamped, no amount of bucking is going to get me off.” He swallowed and made a strange sound in his throat." Callum sure does love to admire his girl, “the view I’m looking at isn’t half bad, either.” His hungry gaze roamed over her body." I really liked this book, I found it to be a cute read.

This was a pretty good story. I liked both Georgia and Callum and many of the secondary characters as well.

Georgia is an acquisitions person for a travel company. She grew up with a sister (Indiana) and parents that had the travel bug and kept them moving all her life. Georgia hadn't always been happy about constantly moving on but grew up with it and developed a restlessness after a while that kept her from staying in one place for too long.

Callum is the owner of an Inn and Pub in a small Scottish town. Callum's parents split up when he was young, his mother being a woman that reads palms and his father being a serious corporate type. Callum used to work in the corporate world with his father but eventually got sick of it and moved back home to look after his ailing mother and live a simpler life. He bought the Inn and Pub and has been happy restoring them.

The description gives a pretty good idea of the story content...although there's not really a bet, at least not one set out that ends in a prize. There is the contention between Georgia and Callum on whether or not she can convince him to sign the agreement or not. There's a strong attraction between them but they do try to be professional...at least at first.

Callum tries to show Georgia the beauty of his town and the people in it so she'll realize why he doesn't want to sell and their time together does bond them. The town and secondary characters that are the townsfolk are definitely a good addition to the story and help to round it out nicely. Georgia does see the appeal but is still determined to do her job and thinks nothing will stop her moving on when the job is over (but not in an abrasive way). There is some angst before things get worked out but in the end, Callum and Georgia are happily together and starting on a HEA.

This was a pretty enjoyable story. I liked Georgia and even though she was "corporate" she wasn't obnoxious or abrasive about it and was still a nice person. Callum was a really good hero and I wouldn't mind finding one like him for myself. Overall, this was a pretty good story with likable characters so I'd recommend it. :)

Aww Ten Days With the Highlander is such a sweet, cute read! And sexy too. How can it not be sexy? It's set in Scotland where the men are hot, burly and wear kilts. Be still my heart...

Georgia is off to Scotland to try to convince a local hotel owner to let her company acquire his hotel. Then she'll be off to yet another destination, another adventure. What she didn't plan on was the hotel owner would burrow his way into her previously closed in heart and make her yearn for things like love, and home, and settling in with good people.

I swooned really hard when reading Ten Days With the Highlander. It's one of those sweet, feel-good reads with a touch of the sexy. It just makes you feel warm all over. And Callum...ah, he is the most swoonworthy of them all. I can't say that I ever connected with Georgia until the epilogue, but Callum, his goat, his cat, his people like Ainsley, sheesh, they're all so damn lovable. I honestly don't see how Georgia fought herself for so long about them all because they're the kind you immediately fall in love with like I did.

Ten Days With the Highlander is sweet, heartwarming, sexy and has a hot Scot, what more could you possibly ask for?!

I received an ARC through NetGalley for an honest review.

Well, this was unexpected. This turned out to be better than I thought :-)

Here we meet Georgia and Callum. Georgia wants to add Callum’s hotel to her portfolio and Callum just wants to be left alone, lol.

The thing is, I could understand both their sides; Georgia wanted the world to fall in love with this hotel, this little town and its people, just as much as she has; Callum wants to maintain it as it is, renovating the hotel, yeah, but keep this little gem of a town a secret, and preserve its traditions and history.

So that made their situation rather difficult, lol.

I love how they both tried to get the other to see their way, in a very passionate way, trying to preserve the town, but also show it to the world. It was a tough situation to be in, since love between them was also entwined in this mess. However, I liked how they worked around it, when they were together, it was just about them. :-)

I loved Callum and the love for his town and its people; I loved him more when he went all in with Georgia. I loved Georgia’s spirit and how she learned what home is really about.

And OMG, Delilah and Hello Kitty! <3

It was a lovely story and looking forward to reading more in the series, since these characters look like fun.

*Thank you to Entangled Publishing for providing an ARC in exchange of my honest opinion*

Ten Days with the Highlander is the first book in the contemporary romance Love Abroad series by Hayson Manning. This book was a quick read that completely hit the spot if you are looking for a romantic romp that will make you smile. I loved the banter between Georgia and Callum, and I really enjoyed the story. This one is short enough to be read in one quick sitting and just long enough to feel like more than a novella.

In Ten Days with the Highlander we meet Georgia, who is in Scotland on a business trip to try and buy a Scottish Hotel and Callum who is the grumpy owner of said hotel who is determined not to sell it to a "tourist company". I loved perky Georgia and snarky jaded Callum, and I really enjoyed watching the two of them erode each other's defenses. Even though this book was on the shorter end, their romance didn't feel rushed or "insta lovey". It was a great progression.

Overall, this book is perfect if you are looking for a lighthearted read. There wasn't a ton of depth or serious themes covered. It was pure frivolous fun in the best way. I really enjoyed this book and I am super interested in continuing on with the Love Abroad series and with Hayson Manning books in general. This one put a smile on my face and I can't wait to discover more of her characters and stories.

Ten Days with the Highlander was a quick, cute, and fun read. Truly, I don’t have much more to say than that – I enjoyed it and have very little to complain about.

One thing that did hit me wrong, and not very far into the book, was the name for the company Georgia works for – LiveAbout, which is a take on the Australian aboriginal term. And while, yes, she even says as much IN the book, it just . . . didn’t sit right with me. She’s a white American woman who decided to suggest an Australian aboriginal term (slightly changed) as the name of an American company (which they ended up using)? This shit goes on enough IRL, with white people using cultural terms and ideas, etc., from marginalized groups – I don’t really want it in my romance, even as a fictional company name.

There were also a few sentences, especially in the first few chapters, that were a bit awkward and unclear. However, since I didn’t notice that issue continuing through the rest of the book, I’m willing to write that off as simply something final editing would polish off (since this is, of course, an ARC I’m reading).

I also had a couple small “Hmmm, really?” thoughts when Georgia, who is a corporate businesswoman very dedicated to her job and definitely not a rookie in the field, didn’t look at her reservation information, etc., before leaving for Scotland (a business trip) – that doesn’t match with her character at all. A minor thing, and nothing big enough to make me dislike the book. Mostly just me being picky, I suppose. Though connected to this, I wasn’t sure why she was there, when it sounded like Callum had never even been approached about this business idea. I was just left feeling a bit unclear about her job and all.

It’s a quick romance, taking place over – you guessed it – ten days, so yes, there’s DEFINITELY insta-love and rushed feelings going on. But since that’s what the entire story is being billed as (very short time line, category length), I can’t complain about that. And honestly, I liked their romance, quick or not, anyway.

There’s some fun banter, mostly filled with great innuendos, in this one, which later leads to some fairly hot scenes. Both of these things made me a happy reader.

The supporting characters were nice to visit with as well. And I gotta say, Callum gets some bonus hero points for looking after Delilah, his mother’s goat. I don’t know many heroes in romancelandia with a goat, so that was different.

My only other complaint was with Callum’s character. I could understand why he didn’t want to let a company come in and ruin his small town and all the townspeople that he cares for. But there was a moment towards the end when he had this lightbulb moment – I thought! – of “Hey, maybe I’m hurting them by clinging so tightly to my selfish desire to resist alllll change, let me go talk to Georgia” . . . but then his entire talk with Georgia is right back to him being firmly Anti-Change. It was a bit frustrating.

All that being said, this was a nice Scottish romp, with some heat and laughs and small town (village?) charm. I definitely recommend it and I’d be curious to try another from this author in the future.

P.S.: I want – neeeeed – more contemporaries set in Scotland. And Ireland. Okay, and really ALL THE COUNTRIES outside the US, but those two are my two favorites and I can never get enough of them. Are you listening, authors/publishers?

Georgia Paxton is a woman on a mission and her mission is to convince Callum McGregor to team his quaint hotel with the tour accommodation company she works for. However, she only has ten days to convince him to sign on the dotted line of the contract, but with how stubborn Callum is, it seems she has no chance. Will Callum realize what a good opportunity Georgia is offering him, or will he lose the woman he's falling in love with?

If you've never read a book by Ms. Manning, then this is the perfect book to start with, as it's an incredible read that started off brilliantly with the heroine finding herself in a tricky driving situation she might have trouble getting herself out of without help; and then just kept getting better because it had me laughing all the way throughout due to the playful banter between the main characters. However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine meet that had me completely captivated and made this story a real page turner for me, as I wanted to know more about the hero and heroine. Since Georgia is all about chasing an adventure and not settling down for fear of being hurt while Callum is determined not to be dragged back into the corporate world.

As for the dialogue, it was well-written, spellbinding and I couldn't get enough of the moments the hero and heroine conversed. The heroine is sassy and I liked that she didn't give up on her mission to convince the hero. I also liked her enthusiasm for her job and how much she loves it, which is proven by how well she's done for the company she works for. Yet, what I liked most of all about the heroine is how much she grows throughout this story. Callum is good for her in the way he shows her love and happy ever after are worth fighting for. While the hero, he was a wonderful character and I loved his back story. He's against everything the heroine has worked hard for and I could understand why he wasn't willing to agree to the heroine's business plan. I also liked the close relationship he had with his mother and how protective he was of many of the secondary characters. How could the heroine's plan benefit the town without changing everything that he loves about where he lives?

Overall, Ms. Manning has penned a delightful read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was strong; the romance hot and did justice to this couple's intense chemistry; the journey these two take on their path to happy ever after was fantastic; and the ending left me completely ecstatic due to the decisions both the main characters make, as the heroine realizes she'll never be truly happy unless she gives the hero a chance. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up perfectly, as the hero and heroine are happy and the secondary characters are loving what has happened. Who knew they could come up with such creative email addresses that made me laugh because of the address they've given Callum. I would recommend Ten Days with the Highlander by Hayson Manning, if you enjoy romantic comedies, the opposites attract trope or books by authors Kadie Scott, Sarah Ballance, Robin Bielman and Naima Simone.
