A beautiful, raw, intense, soulful, seductive collection of poetry. Another work of perfection by this man who is extraordinary, too-good-to-be-true, sensitive, and all-soul-baring.
A perfect romantic series. I will be rereading a bunch of the poems in this in an attempt to memorize them because I just loved them so much.
Before I start my review, let me share how I meet this amazing author. Back in the early Instagram days, I came across a talented man who wrote poems as if I'm talking to the universe.
I followed Christopher Poindexter when he had barely close to a thousand followers, as time passed his art stretched and started getting noticed more. I always hoped that his talent would be recognized so he can get published. Now, years later, he has published his second book and he has never disappointed me. He writes with more purity than the universe itself-- and at times I can even feel myself transending into the world with words the heart is unknown to speak.
In that book I shared a quote that got to me right away, but of coarse there are more !
I don't know how else to describe how amazing this book is. The words are real, passionate, romantic, sexy, astounding, enticing, sad, mysterious-- okay I'm going a little nuts here ( y'all get what I mean) His poetry his amazing-- I really recommend this poetry book to sit and entice yourself to very deep words!
This poet speaks beauty into emotions in a way that just wildly resonates with me. I am quite often left breathless and in awe by a stance or even just a line of his poetry. I will be a forever fan.
Have you ever experienced something So astonishingly beautiful, You wanted nothing more Than for that moment to be burned And in your mind be born Fresh once more? The greatest second you will Ever have on this earth is The exact moment you fell In love.
Imagine the first moment of color But imagine it in this way- You never know of anything But black and white until you Fall in love, and then She comes to you, Like never before, stumbling Drunk through the front door, A hand full of purple and Blue and red and yellow, It is an offering, A surrender, "Here, Have my heart, Have my color."
I want to see what only the speed of light has time for.
I watch the dark green candle burn in its thick glass as I try to fall asleep but sleep will not grant me its reward. Sometimes I think I love you too much. You stand tall above my world in slow motion Playing the part of a mountain that changes its Shape every time my heart shakes. At night I dream we walk together in forests Of evergreen and climb trees pretending to be things only a child I can manifest.
it has always been you. There is no one else.
Will you walk with me hand in hand on days when the rain feels like soft bullets pressed to my porcelain skin?

Poindexter brings the readers back to old forms of poetry, which is a nice change from the standard free-verse form that many poets utilize in our time. Many poems were about empathy and poverty, a topic that not many write about either, giving us a glimpse into his caring soul. My only complaints are that it was too short and that the themes of each poem seem to remain the same for the most part.
Rating poetry is a bit difficult as it's someones soul on a page... but isn't all literature similar in that sense? I enjoyed a few of the poems quite a lot, while others fell short and I had to resist the urge to quickly skim through. Lovely writer, but I felt like something was missing.
So beautifully written. SWOON!!! Some of these poems...I want to secretly place them around so that my boyfriend finds them and reads them to me as if they’re his own 🤣 Love Christopher Poindexter!
