A forbidden, small town, sports romance from Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author Devney Perry.

A coach. A student. The rules were concrete. We broke them anyway.

The night I met Toren Greely was the night I learned how to lie. He was a Treasure State football coach. I was the star of the volleyball team. Coaches and students were forbidden. My future was on the line, so I told myself it was only one night.

That was the first lie. They got easier to tell after that. The lines blurred. The boundaries shifted. Our relationship became a game of its own.

A chaste smile. A knowing glance. A veiled touch or a hushed kiss. We hid in plain sight. We were invincible. Or so we thought. Neither of us saw the blitz coming until it was too late.

Game over. The night I left Toren Greely was the night I learned how to lose.

i completely forgot what the tropes for this book for so i went in mostly blind and really loved them!!

i love forbidden and age gap any way i can have them but this was less a clandestine affair style book and more, we really should stay away from each other but we can’t because we’re in love type book and i loved it.

jennsyn and toren have one night as strangers at his 4th of july party and just as he’s finally going to call her a couple of weeks later because he can’t stop thinking about her, he runs into her… at work… where’s he’s the football coach and she’s the newest senior transfer on the volleyball team… when the school is especially strict about relationships because they are fresh off a scandal.

this gave everything. both tor and jennsyn were a little lost and just kind of living life day by day until they met each other and it really felt like soulmates meeting. AND THE TENSION/CHEMISTRY. jennsyn’s a stronger woman than me, that’s all i have to say. you could just really tell they understood each other better than anybody else and i loved it sm. sweet, spicy, funny, forbidden, a little bit of everything.

i wish we had gotten a bit more about jennsyn’s interests outside of volleyball and a little more info about her past but i loved this one.

Safety: SAFE 🙌
- Both are experienced
- They have sex the first night they met without knowing she is a student at the university he works as a coach. Any relationship between a member of the staff and a student is forbidden
- They are not without anyone else after meeting each other
- No ow/om drama
- Safe sex and then they have a talk and decided not to use condoms
- She is 21 and he is 33

It is a bit of a slow burn, well they slept together in the first chapter although its not described, but he get flashbacks along the book. After that is two weeks later and he hasn't called her because he was scared about how much he liked her and then they meet again at the university. Turns out they are neighboors. They are only together again in october a little over half the book.

They met the first time at a 4th of july party at his house, she was there because she moved right next door.

I dont know how a author who wrote Coach that I hated, could in the same series write such an cute, loving and romantic story. We can feel their tension, not only sexual, but they have a chemistry that goes beyond the sex, they have a nice and fun banter going along. They match not only as a couple but as friends as well.

I really liked this book. Way better than the first one, I think the author could have made it better by including some moments like the sex talk he had with his nephew. I bet it was awkward and it would have make me laught

2☆ You should judge this book by its cover.

I mean not everyone can pull off football pants. 🫣 After stories like Juniper Hill and Tragic, I was expecting good things. But this ‘romance’ was unconvincing and the plot forgettable. I liked the MCs’ memories of that first night and the small amount of time in their "safe place" on the farm, but that’s kind of it. My early doubts about Toren and Jennsyn’s booty calls relationship were doubled by a totally imbalanced dynamic; the h was constantly pursuing the passive, older H, who enjoyed dodging responsibility while still getting laid on the down low. And he’s a respected authority figure. Lame.

Toren had Jennsyn's number for 2 weeks after their supposedly magical night together, but just never called. There's no dramatic missed connection or forced separation; this 32 y.o.'s lame excuse is that the sex was so great that it freaked him out. Umm? That's the big, irresistible, world-shaking connection? Not impressed. Toren is upset to discover that oops, his ONS is a student-athlete at the college where he coaches, and btw she lives next door! So his brilliant plan is to go to ridiculous lengths to avoid her BUT then also has her sneaking over every night for a bootie call. So romantic you guys! The MCs both have emotional scars and try to support each other when shit goes down, but any progress is limited by the fact that all of that sexing isn't balanced with any decent communication. It’s a fumble.

*******
Help, I can’t stop looking at this hella awkward book cover every time I open my Kindle Library 😂😂😂

Review after reading: 4.5/5 ⭐️

I. Love. This. Series. Im not usually a forbidden romance girlie but this one hit. 😍

I had to take off .5 ⭐️ because of 1. Their names… Jennsyn and Toren… and because I didn’t love that addition of her Jennsyn being involved with another coach before that kust seemed like an unnecessary tidbit that felt rushed at this end but honestly Imma over look it 🥳 because I CANNOT WAIT TO READ ABOUT RUSH 🤌🏽

Well... this lacked pretty much everything. It was just BORING. There was absolutely no sense of direction and the plot was just them sneaking around and having sex and trying not to get caught. That's literally it. I should have known better, because it's coach/student, but I thought I'd give it a try. There was nothing to it, to the point where I thought the entire thing was just unnecessary. In fact, she doubles down with the whole coach/student thing, so not only is Jennsyn CURRENTLY dating a coach and it's forbidden, but she had already transferred schools because she was with a coach at THAT school and it was forbidden. Really? This is where we are at? It could have been anything else, but nope, it was her with her coach at two different schools, and each time she knew it was wrong and against the rules but didn't care. Once is more than enough, but TWICE? Okay... Also, what kind of name is Jennsyn? What kind of name is Toren? I think Devney Perry peaked at Juniper Hill and that's it because the last several books have been terrible. I can't imagine the next book in this series will be any better.

2.5 ⭐

First things first, the book cover is atrocious. I can't help but cringe every time I open my Kindle and see that in my library. Good thing, though; I'll be getting rid of that after I return this book.

Secondly, I felt so exhausted after reading this story. I didn't know this was a slow burn—well, technically not—because Toren (33) and Jennsyn (21/22) had ONS in chapter one, but that was FTB. Anyway, after that one night, the progress then became a slow burn that I didn't enjoy at all. Everything was dragged on, and my frustration is getting worse with every chapter.

These two had spent more time apart than together. And on the off chance that they could talk or have a decent interaction, it would only last for a few minutes, then they'd go back to avoiding each other for days, sometimes weeks.

But apparently the pull between them is too strong to resist, and their one night cements a bond that can never be broken. I would even say this was love at first sight; just reading Toren's POV and him all of a sudden spewing poetic stuff is more than enough to give that impression. I think it was the same for Jennsyn (weird name, btw).

Aside from the fact that they are apart most of the time, I didn't like that Jennsyn was the main pursuer in this freaking relationship. She's the one who's always seeking Toren out, making excuses to talk to him or just see a glimpse of him. She was the one who put in so much effort just to connect with him, and mind you, she did that up until the 63% mark. I mean, she's definitely something; I'm not sure to applaud or shake her hard, honestly.

Toren said he's hopelessly fucked in all the right ways when it comes to Jennsysn. But I think I could probably count, using two hands, the number of times he tried to show this affection for her. I have to admit, he has a good way with words. While it's endearing to read his inner monologues about his feelings for Jennsyn, there's not much action from him to support those feelings. Maybe because it's the forbidden aspect of their situation? Idk, honestly. Because if that's the case, why can Jennsyn find ways to see him and Toren can't do the same? 🤷‍♀️

Anyway, like I said, this is a slow burn, and they only decided to throw the caution at the 63% mark. Of course, it has to be a secret, and they have to sneak in at night to spend time together. But even during these times that they were together, they hardly talked about relevant stuff; most of it was spent getting tangled in the sheets. 😮‍💨

And the reason why Jennsyn decided to transfer schools was revealed way too late in the book. Actually, it was only brought up in the last chapter! Why, though? She spent 92% of the book on her own, excluding the time with Toren. She never made any friends on her team, thanks to her trust issues.

Had she tried to open up to her roommates, who happen to be her teammates as well, I think the burden she's carrying would be much lighter. Liv and Stevie have shown her time and time again how they want to include her in their activities, yet she keeps turning them down every time. I really hoped she'd eventually give them a chance, or at least the benefit of the doubt, but nah, she was more than happy to be a loner and avoid them all the time.

Ugh, I really didn't enjoy it, mainly because of the push and pull that lasted way too long, Jennsyn's trust issues (also parental issues), and Toren's indecisiveness. I wish I could say I had a great time reading this, but that would be a lie.

While this didn't work for me, maybe other readers might find this more up their alley.

“You can’t run far, far away. You promised to take care of me while I take care of everyone else. I need you here for that.”

This was better than previous book. I had no expectations but just wanted to read a book about a teacher and a student and this delivered that trope.

I usually have no problem with insta-love trope in Devney's books because she knows her way around this trope but I don't why it bothered me in this book. Maybe because it was more of a love at first sight and call me a cynical or sceptical or whatever but I just don't believe in this type of love. And Toren and Jennsyn had exactly that. They did developed some emotional connection over the time and that's why I liked it better in the second half of this story. The romance was fine. There is chemistry and sexual tension and all the ignited sparks between Toren and Jennsyn. But their denials and back and forth were tiresome.

“I can’t stop thinking about you.” His voice was no more than a murmur. “You were supposed to fade away.”
“So were you,” I whispered.

Toren was fine. I liked him better than Ford of course. He was kind and attentive and I liked the way he cared about Jennsyn.

Jennsyn was a little lost about her future and career as a professional Volleyball player and I liked how she navigated her way through it and did what felt right to her.

“Why did you come to my game?”
“Don’t make me answer that.”

Overall, Blitz was a sweet, spicy and forbidden romance story with an enjoyable plot and interesting characters. I am excited for Rush's book! Devney has been teasing us with all these little snippets in this series and though accidental pregnancy is not my type but I just want to read it for Rush. I like that boy already so much.

Blitz is the second book in the Treasure State Wildcats series. This is a small town, sports (he’s a college football coach, she plays college volleyball), age gap (she’s 21, he’s 33), forced proximity (neighbors), forbidden romance (he’s staff at the school she attends). This book actually takes place during the same time that the first book in the series does (Coach), so you see that couple playing out in the background.

Toren and Jennsyn meet at a 4th of July backyard party he’s hosting. They instantly are attracted and pulled to one another, and when she stays behind to help clean up from the party they end up hooking up. Two weeks later they end up running into one another again, this time when he is introduced to her at the college he coaches football at and where she’s a new senior transfer student who plays volleyball. Both are kinda floored to realize who one another is and know that any sort of relationship is off-limits since he’s college staff and she’s a student. But avoiding one another is hard since they quickly realize they live next door to one another too!

Jennsyn is a senior at college and recently transferred to Montana. Her mom was an Olympic volleyball player who has kind of forced volleyball onto her daughter as well. Jennsyn is trying to figure out if she even likes playing anymore and what she wants to do with her life. Toren has had a lot of grief and loss in his life and has been the anchor to so many, I liked how Jennsyn wanted to be the one to care of him. Their romance is a slow burn with them trying to stay away for a bit—after their initial hookup that is. The story moves quickly and while I loved Coach more, these two characters felt meant to be.

I received an ARC from the author, all thoughts in this review are my own!

no one, and i mean no one, is as shocked as me that i rated this five stars…

the past couple devney perry books i have read have really not been my fav, i think i got slightly sick of the all town vibes and i had just read too many. but blitz takes place at a college and this was coachxathlete and is was SO GOOD!!!!!

first of all let’s all give ms. perry her props for writing some of the best tension ever!!! like i was on the edge of my seat in nearly every scene these two had together!! even though they hooked up early this was not insta love, there were so many moments that helped grow their friendship and their bond so when they became romantic again i was SCREAMING!!!! toren and jennsyn were hot, sweet, adorable, perfect… JUST ALL THE GOOD THINGS!!!!

i loved all the discourse surrounding jennsyn and her volleyball career, and just her aspirations in life. those conversations need to be had more and i thought it was done beautifully in this story!!! while this book may be a five stars because it got me out of a slump and i just needed a solid romance book, don’t let that discourage you. pick this up immediately because it’s one of perry’s best!!!

Not me over here eagerly awaiting the release of this book for it to almost bore me to tears 🤡

There was zero character depth I couldn’t tell you single thing about these characters, what they liked what they disliked etc, they were so dull.

They sneak around for the majority of the book and yet nothing happens. I feel as though there was zero plot to this book.

The ending is far too rushed and where the hell is the drama you’d expect to find in a forbidden romance?

I don’t think I will continue with this series as I feel I have lost interest.

Coach was one of my favorite books of 2023 so I went into Blitz with VERY high expectations.

Now, before I start, let me just say - DEVNEY DOES NOT WRITE A BAD BOOK... now with that being said I was SO let down by Blitz.

The best way for me to describe this would be fine... this book was fine.

I liked Toren a lot but I found Jennsyn to be pretty unbearable. Her character was one huge contradiction in my opinion- she was a fun loving free spirit with Toren but also rude to her roommates and teammates, reclusive, and lacked self confidence (not an issue but contradictory to what we see when she is with Toren - and maybe thats fine but I do not like an FMC whos entire self worth comes from a man)

I am also not a fan of an age gap - like what does a 33yr old have in common with a 21yr old college kid? Because lets be honest, Jennsyn was a kid, she was incredibly immature in SO many ways - her communication skills were nonexistent and like I said before she was pretty terrible to everyone BUT Toren.

ANYWAY if Jennsyn has no haters I am dead.

Toren though, what a hunk and He really shined when he was taking care of his aunt and cousins, I wish we saw more of that!

One (two) more complaint - SUPER instalove which is not my vibe AND the 'issue' at the end was resolved SO easily... Like this big issue of no fraternizing with students was basically not even an issue.

I ADORED Toren throughout this whole dang book. He deserves the WORLD and he got it in his happily ever after. I wish we got a little more of their deep conversations but I really did love watching this couple FALL. It was so good. The sneaking around made me so sad for them but in the end everything worked out. And YALL download the extended epilogue because I needed more of their ending and it was perfect.

DNF at 32% due to the lack of shoes wearing and the obsession with the FMC being bare foot as well as being mislead by the synopsis.

I thought I’d get discreet glances and subtle touches but 32% later and NOTHING happens. NOTHING. This isn’t forbidden, this is non existent. The few conversations the MCs had were cringe at worst and uncomfortable at best.

I really enjoyed Coach but this is a no no for me. Don’t waste your time

toren and jennsyn had some of the best tension ever. these two had me so giddy. THAT TENSION WAS ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 nothing better than a forbidden romance tension 😩!!! the sneaking around, the having to act like they didn’t know each other while being in the same room GAHHHH SOO GOOD.

overall, toren and jennsyn were so cute. the romance and the plot line were amazing. could not stop reading. so excited for the next one 😭💕

I really had high hopes for this one but sadly it just didn’t hit the same as book 1. The characters have a one night stand right at the beginning which I tend to not like because it feels a bit like insta love. They don’t really interact again for a while after and I felt like nothing was happening for a good 50% of the book. I still liked both characters and was interested enough to see where it would lead but I didn’t feel a strong connection to the story or romance.

I LOVE TOREN SO MUCH. I AM OFFICIALLY A TOREN STAN ACCOUNT.

This man was willing to give up literally everything and just follow her around the world if he had to 😭 you can’t tell me that isn’t the best thing ever. I’m gonna cry.

These aren’t “sports romance” I mean they are… but they’re not so sports where if you’re not a sports romance girly (me) then you won’t enjoy me. Because I enjoy the heck out of this series and no one can give me any criticism on them. I love them with my whole heart.

I think what was beautiful about this book was that they were just naturally always pulled to each other. There was no escaping it and I’m pretty sure even if they weren’t neighbors, they’d still be pulled together.

And I love Jennsyn’s grow to appreciate the people around her and trust them. I know I said no criticism and this isn’t, but man I would love to read more about her and her roommates become life long friends. I could probably read an entire other book of Jennysyn just learning how to be a friend and normal person without the sport following her.

Toren is a 10/10 and I would like one for myself, please and thank you.

«Він міг дбати про всіх інших.
А я подбаю про нього».

Це було надзвичайно мило. Їхні стосунки такі ніжні, що аж тепло на душі ставало. Їхня підтримка, таємні зустрічі і те, як вони закохалися так сильно, то просто любов. Мені дуже сподобалась ця історія. Прочитала на одному диханні. Я не хотіла відпускати героїв. І переконана, що повернусь до них знову 🥰

Listen...sports romance, student/teacher (coach), forbidden romance is my jam. But this one didn't work for me. I was annoyed and didn't really enjoy it until the next to last chapter, 90%. And then BAM all was resolved and it was over 😭

I liked the characters enough, Toren was a great hero. So giving and helpful with his aunt and her kids. Jennsyn was ok but I hated how she never wanted to talk. 90% of the book was them barely talking, not seeing each other for a month, falling into bed together, repeat. I wasn't even sure how they could have a connection since they never had a conversation.

And their first interaction was initially off page and then flashbacked throughout the book. Jennsyn was the most beautiful, most stunning, most electric person he'd ever met in his entire life leading to the best night of his life. But I never really felt it since it was sprinkled to me.

I liked book 1, Ford and Millie's story, so fingers crossed I like book 3 better 🤞

Blitz takes place during the same time line as Coach. Normally, I had books that repeat timelines from multiple povs but not this one. There were very few things that were repeated so it seemed like a completely new timeline. Toren is a football coach at Treasure State that is ready to settle down and meet the one. Jennsyn is the new star athlete on the women’s volleyball team. Both of them meet before the semester starts and have no clue who the other person is. The rest goes from there.

I think this is a good follow up to Coach. The only thing that I wasn’t a fan of was most of the information comes to light at the last few chapters and it felt a bit rushed. Can’t wait to see where this series goes next. Thank you for the Arc!

Thank you to Devney and Valentine PR for sending me an early copy of this book in exchange for a review!

I flew through this book. It was addicting to have the tension and the will they won’t they. I also really enjoyed the fact it had overlapping timelines with Coach. It was done in a way that I didn’t feel like I was reading the same story again, but could find those key points that aligned with the other book.

I also loved that there was some dual timeline within the book. Back and forth flash backs to the night of the Fourth of July party and things happening in the present.

The pacing of this book kept me going back for more. I wanted to know more about Toren and Jennsyn. I love the forbidden aspect. Sometime I felt like the only thing between these two was sex, and I wanted a little more character development in their relationship and why they truly loved each other, but overall it was a cute read! Spicy too!

Took off just a little for my rating because the ending felt so rushed. All that we waited for to learn her secret and it gets resolved in a chapter and we find out the sneaking around wasn’t for much. Felt like we could have seen a little more. But the epilogue was cute.

Can’t wait to read Rally and see what is next!

I was so excited for this book and was not disappointed! I loved Ford and Millie so much and they are definitely still my favorite couple out of this series so far, but Jennsyn and Toren were still super cute! I just felt like they were obsessed with each other a little too quickly, I would have loved some build up. But, I still really enjoyed this one and can’t wait for Rally later this year!

I like the names of the MCs, they are unusual. The book was a good older man/younger woman and coach/student trope. I thought I was done well. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

4.5/5⭐️ forbidden in a small town will never ever ever let me down!! this forced proximity (next door neighbors) age gap between a college coach and an athlete (not his athlete) delivered on everything!!!

what started as an all night long (i believe we lost count after 5 rounds) between two strangers that just met turned quickly into a forbidden romance and fighting their attraction and emotions. torren has been taking care of everyone and a character you felt down to their soul was a good person and jennsyn is almost like this free spirit wanderer who just wants to take care of torren.

i especially loved that we got flashbacks throughout this book about their first night together which added to the tension and spice!
