English text
Peaceful flows the winding river,
By the weeping willow tree,
Pretty bloom the gay primroses,
In the meadow where they be.
Joyful sings the lark in heaven,
Gently coos the turtle dove;
But my heart is heavy in me,
For I live not where I love.
I would be with Mary wand’ring
O’er the hill and o’er the lea;
With her I’d be gath’ring flowers
Growing in my own country.
Joyful sings the lark in heaven,
Gently coos the turtle dove;
But my heart is heavy in me,
For I live not where I love.
