Let’s take a little time to reflect on the history of The View.
The venerable ABC talk show — which has its Season 28 premiere on Tuesday, Sept. 3 (at 11/10c) — has had a whopping 24 (!) co-hosts since its 1997 premiere, including current panelists Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro. And this year, Goldberg will set a View record when she returns for her 18th consecutive season on the dais, beating the record previously held by the series’ creator, the late, great Barbara Walters, who stayed through Season 17.
Behar, who has been a fixture for almost the entirety of The View’s run, ultimately comes in third place, having initially been let go after 16 seasons. This fall, she begins the 10th season of her second run, which started with Season 19.

Behar has appeared in all but two seasons, having been let go after Season 16, then reinstated at the start of Season 19. She acknowledged her sabbatical-of-sorts at the start of The View‘s Season 27 premiere when she said, “We’ve been here for 27 years. I was here for all of it, except for two, when they canned me. They sacked my behind.” But all has been forgiven.
The EGOT winner joined the dais in Season 11, on the heels of Rosie O’Donnell’s initial departure. She has been a fixture on The View since 2007.
The woman who started it all remained at the Hot Topics table until she retired in 2014.
The Survivor vet served as the conservative voice at the table for a full decade, beginning with Season 7. She was let go after Season 16 and went on to co-host the Fox News morning show Fox & Friends.
Along with Walters and Behar, Vieira and Jones were part of the original panel. Both ladies left after Season 9. Hostin, meanwhile, has been on the panel since Season 20.
Before she was dishing hot topics on her own daytime talk show, Shepherd was taking part in spirited discussions at The View‘s Hot Topics table. Her seven-year hosting stint came to an end in 2014. Haines, meanwhile, served as a co-host for Seasons 20 and 21, departed to host GMA3, then returned for Season 24. She remains on the panel for Season 28.
Ling was the first in a long line of replacements. She succeeded original panelist Debbie Matenopoulos in Season 3, and remained through Season 6. McCain, meanwhile, spent most of her tenure dodging rumors of her exit, so it came as no surprise when she finally called it quits after Season 24.
Symoné was enlisted for Season 18 and left during Season 20 to headline Disney Channel’s Raven’s Home; Faris was a fixture for Seasons 19 through 21; and Griffin and Navarro joined the panel in Season 26.
The two-season club is a colorful cast of characters. Matenopoulos was replaced after Season 2; O’Donnell spent Season 10 feuding with Hasselbeck, then returned for a brief stint in Season 18; Buré bailed as soon as Fuller House got off the ground; Bila returned to Fox News; and Huntsman resigned to run her father Jon Huntsman’s failed reelection campaign for governor of Utah.
And now, the one-season wonders! McCarthy was there for Walters’ final season; Wallace and Perez entered the scene following McCarthy and Walters’ departures; and Collins succeeded Wallace and Perez. All of them came and went between Seasons 17 and 19 — clearly the rockiest era in the gab fest’s storied history.
The View is “let’s see who they can bash today” television. Joy and Whoppi are vindictive to anyone that disagrees with their own opinions.

My favorite is Whoopie Goldberg and Joy Behar.
My least favorite was Megan McCain although l had much respect for her father Mr. John McCain.

My favorites are the original host and currently the present hosts. My least favorites were Abby and Meghan because they were so annoying. I’m a Dem but appreciate others points of view and enjoy listening to a Rep like Ana and Alyssa; also the lone Ind Sara. But I do miss Barbara and Bill.
I agree except for Abby Huntsman, I thought she was a reasonable Republican especially compared to Megan McCain. Megan was a total tool that came off as whiney and childish and I was so glad when she left.
Most favorite for me is Whoopi and least favorite is Meghan McCain!
The most insipidly vapid show on network television. It is hosted by ignorant women who are heavily bigoted in their political views.

I don’t watch on a regular basis anymore but I still like it! My faves were Meredith Viera, Joy Behar, Whoopi and Rosie! My least favorites were Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Meghan McCain ugh!

Pls replace Sara Haines. She comments (talks) just to hear herself. Her entrance usually shows her talking to Whoopi or Joy sharing a secret, displaying her position of supposed “teachers pet” much to the chagrin of Whoopi and Joy. She contributes nothing of relevance. As for Sunny her DNA appears to contain black, Jewish, Italian, Catholic, in youth welfare recepient, family loss to covid, prosecutor. In short, everything and everyone. Her consistent carping on the achievements of black lives becomes numbing. Her use of the pronoun “I” is mind blowing. All said I like her in smaller doses. Whoopi should shorten her astute but too long opinion. Anna Navarro is my favorite. She is biting coupled with humor. In my opinion, an excellent attorney and commentator. Alyssa, new kid on block, though I don’t agree with most of her politics, I respect her opinion. She delivers her opinion without personal attacks. We must all learn that. N

I love Ana Navarro, Alyssa for her experiences in the White House. Sony for her knowledge of the law and Joy for her humor. Sarah is a breath of fresh air.
Sara is the only one on the current panel who can be objective and thinks logically and speaks calmly without condescending attitude (ahem, Sunny). Whoopi, Joy, Sunny, and Ana are all subjective emotion.
Ana Navarro is my fave and Meghan was the most obnoxious cohost ever!

I thought Rosie O’Donnells first run around was amazing train wreck tv watching. Meredith and Barbara are the GOATS of the series. Nicole got the short end of the stick. Love Whoopi, but as an actor, not a talk show host. On a side note…does anybody else remember snl parodying the early days of the show? It was priceless.

I like the current line up, but it would be nice to have Ana everyday. The worst cohost: Meghan McCain. Her selfish whining and “Do you know who my dad is?” were so annoying.
Why should be friendly to a stranger?
I have watched all 26 seasons and have liked all host but Megan and Elisabeth. But my favorites are Joy and Ana because they tell it like it is with no apologies. Keep up the good work.

The View is a watch, for me most days. Whoopie is by far my favorite, I like all of the ladies on the panel, they have now. I have to agree with some others, about Meghan and Elisabeth. I did a happy dance when they left.

Griffin should never have been hired. Almost all of her sentences start with when I was with Tr____ who I don’t like an more. She worked for a liar cheat and criminal.
I would keep Whoopie, Joy and Ana. Sunny gets on my last nerve, she seems to manage to turn it around to about her. Alyssa worked for Trump WH. Enough said. Sara seems to talk too much, just my opinion folks. I was really hoping for some changes.

Love the View! Record it every day to ensure I don’t miss it. The only one that needs to be tamed down is Sonny. It is always about her and when a guest is on she attempts to “hog” all their time, and absolutely needs to be told to STOP flirting with the guests, they are not there for her! I am a Dem but absolutely love having Alyssa’s input. And Sonny needs to STOP cutting her off! ❤ U View! Xoxo
