The Golden Bachelorette: Get to Know the 24 Men Vying for Joan’s Heart

Somebody get Joan Vassos an umbrella, because it is positively raining men up in here.
ABC on Tuesday revealed the 24 “distinguished gentlemen” who will be competing for Vassos’ heart in the inaugural season of The Golden Bachelorette, and it’s quite an assortment of suitors.
Vassos, who lost her husband of 32 years to pancreatic cancer, competed for Gerry Turner’s heart in Season 1 of The Golden Bachelor last fall, but she had to withdraw from the competition in Week 3 due to a family emergency.
Since we didn’t get to spend a ton of time with Vassos before her untimely exit, here’s a bit more about her, per ABC: “Vassos is a remarkable woman whose life has been defined by her resilience, zest for adventure and strong family values. It was those family values that led to her heartbreaking decision to leave The Golden Bachelor, self-eliminating after a medical concern with her daughter arose.”
“Despite that and other challenges she’s faced along the way … Vassos remains an embodiment of strength and grace as a devoted mother of four, grandmother of three, and school administrator while finding solace in the music of Elton John, spending time with her dog and cooking,” the description continues. “Now, as she steps into the golden spotlight and begins her journey to seek love once more, Vassos envisions a future filled with shared moments by the beach and cherished time with family.”
The Golden Bachelorette premieres Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 8/7c on ABC.

Seriously missed opportunity for reverse age-gap here. ;)
I’ve never understood significant age-gap relationships in general because there’s always seems to be an imbalance between the two in terms of experience if nothing else. Plus, there’s the fact that there’s a shorter expiration date on the marriage given that the much older spouse will usually die significantly sooner than the younger one.
Why are any of these contestants doing this show? Given their apparent desirability there’s no reason for them to go through this competition if they really are interested in a new spouse. It may be entertaining for the rest of us but what do they get out of this?
Once again, the show has picked men from all over the country, with no regard for where Joan lives. Ultimately, no matter who she picks, neither on will want to relocate, just as Gerry and Teresa did not want to relocate. It is all for show.
Once you get past 45, I feel like everyone has hit max maturity. But, sure, spoil my fun. (Raspberry.)
