RED TIDE (SEASON 10, PART 1)
Simple and spooky, the first half of Season 10 felt like a return to form for the long-running franchise, delivering the same energy that drew us to the series in the first place. It even got bonus points for letting us spend time with delicious characters like Frances Conroy’s eccentric Belle Noir and Leslie Grossman’s no-B.S. Ursula.
But as the six-episode saga slumped towards the finish line, culminating in a rushed finale that left way too many loose ends untied, we couldn’t help but wonder: Did the writers stop taking their little black pills?
The Name Game… Jessica Lange was fantastic.
I thought Coven was the best! And I really enjoyed how they tied some history into the story!
I agree with pretty much all of these rankings. The show definitely had a lot more creative juice in its early years.
–
I might swap the places of Freak Show and Cult – I was won over by the atmosphere of the former, despite its narrative messiness (much the same way I feel about Asylum). And I just never clicked with the latter.
Looks like my decision to drop out after Coven was right on the money. But Asylum was superb.
I don’t feel good about this list.
Murder house should be #1
I would put Delicate at the very bottom. It has been the absolute worst. It was practically unwatchable. I ended up fast forwarding through 90% of it.
Delicate is the only season I haven’t finished because it was just awful so it would be at the bottom for me. Honestly unless the next season sounds great I may take a break from AHS.
Roanoke should be last.
Roanoke was brilliant. My favorite.
Roanoke first part was so scary. The reenactment part was true horror. When it got to reality show part it was more campy. Still good but I loved the first part more.
I definitely think Roanoke is Top 3. My personal favorite will always be Murder House, and I would also place Delicate at the bottom. The final episode was tragic.
I can’t quite understand why FX, such a prestige network, would let so many subpar seasons air. Up until maybe s09 it was still kind of okay – bad TV, nonetheless – but the last three seasons have been truly awful. In a landscape where shows take two, three-year hiatuses, why not take some time and fully develop a story?
By the way, for any AHS frustrated viewers out there: Prime Video just released THEM s02 and *that’s* a respectable terror show.
I agree that Asylum is 100% the best
Hotel and, particularly, Cult are way too high on this list. Otherwise, the order’s pretty accurate.
I have a very different ranking.
13.Death Valley-Never even finished it. I thought it was terrible
12.Cult-I really didn’t need this political themed season
11.NYC-The killer being AIDS seemed like a stupid thing that was tacked on at the end.
10.Delicate- Not all that impressed. I thought the season was a little boring too.
9.Red Tide-It’s ending just wasn’t great
8.Apocalypse-The opposite of the last one. Good ending but I didn’t like the start of the season
7.Freak Show-Thought this one was pretty good actually. Twisty was cool.
6.Coven-Good season and great cast
5.1984- What can I say? I love a good camp slasher.
4.Hotel-The one season ranking I agree with.
3.Murder House-The one that started it all. Great season.
2.Asylum- Loved this season. The one thing I didn’t care for is mixing aliens and demons in the same storyline.
1.Roanoke- I watch the kind of shows that inspired this season and it’s probably why I enjoy this one so much.
Sorry but what a terrible list you guys have
From worst to best
Delicate
Double Feature Part 2
Double Feature Part 1
Cult
1984
Roanoke
Freak Show
Murder House
Apocalypse
NYC
Hotel
Aslyum
Coven
I think NYC used the backdrop of this horror franchise to tell a story in a heartbreakingly beautiful way. I thought the story was consistent and acting was superb. Some are more fun than others but artistically, I thought this one was so well done.
I loved NYC, it told a true heart breaking story.
I think it was hated more due to the LGBT+ being front and center but of course that’s something most people won’t admit.
This season was awful.
13. NYC
12. Freak Show
11. Delicate
10. Death Valley
9. Asylum
8. Apocalypse
7. Red Tide
6. Cult
5. Hotel
4. 1984
3. Roanoke
2. Coven
1. Murder House
I think the worst is debatable because the biggest issue AHS has is fully fleshing out a story and creating a worthy conclusion which is what several season suffer from. I did not care for Death Valley at all so I would put it last. I think the top three including Alyssum, Murder House and Coven makes perfect sense.
If only they had stopped after season 5. I could not even make it threw first episode of this season. When heard it was starring Emma Roberts / Kim Kardashian. Knew this was not a good thing.
