The official trailer for Mickey 17 is here, offering us a good look at director Bong Joon-ho's first film since Parasite swept the globe in 2019. This time, he's killing Robert Pattinson in space.

Set in a space-faring sci-fi future, Mickey 17 follows Mickey Barnes (Pattinson), a man working a dangerous job in which death isn't just a risk — it's a guarantee. However, every time he shuffles off this mortal coil he is swiftly shuffled back onto it, his company essentially replicating him so he can continue his work as usual.

It seems like a truly awful job, particularly as Mickey appears to remember every gruesome death. Unfortunately, his terrible life gets even worse when he discovers that one of his "human printings" survived, putting both of them in danger of a more permanent demise.

Though Mickey 17's plot does seem rather grim, the trailer is much more lighthearted than its premise suggests. It seems as though we can look forward to more of the black humour that first propelled Bong to international attention. The film also has a star-studded cast, with Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo appearing alongside Pattinson.

Mickey 17 arrives in theatres Jan. 31, 2025.

UPDATE: Sep. 18, 2024, 2:37 p.m. EDT A previous version of this post referred to Robert Pattinson's character as a "clone." Within the world of Mickey 17, the character is a human printing.
