I write about ghosts and monsters and other things that go bump in the night. My books tend to include a liberal sprinkling of weird Canadiana and the occasional zombie metaphor.

I am an eternal fangirl for YA and SFF, but any book that makes me laugh, makes me cry, or creeps me out will have my heart forever. My very favorites tend to have a thinky, supernatural flavor and don't explain too much.

In my other lives I'm a public service editor, a mother of two, and a passionate gardener. I live in Ottawa, Canada, in a perpetual whirlwind of unfinished projects and cat hair. ...more

Hi Amelinda! I just finished The Dark Beneath the Ice and JEEZ that book is crazy good!! Thanks so much for writing it!! The question I have is what did you most want people to take away from the book? I know there's a heck lotta things it teaches but what did you have in mind when you wrote it? Also what age was Marianne in the book? Sometimes she seemed like she could be my age (14) but sometimes she seemed older.

I think mostly what I was trying to do was articulate what it feels like to chop off pieces of yourself to make others comfortable - and maybe encourage people to claim their own red shoes, if that makes sense.

Marianne's got one more year of high school left to go, so she's 17 - though a young 17, in many ways.(less)
