Kafka’s short story, “Poseidon,” depicts the God of the Sea as disgruntled and bored by overwhelming administrative tasks. Meanwhile, Poseidon’s followers see him as a showboat, always “idling through the tides with his trident.” What they never see is the endless paperwork and managerial duties associated with managing the waters. Poseidon, as Kafka explores him, is misunderstood due to his title

Good question. I haven't been so active lately either. I'll ask Charlie about it--she was the one who picked the books each month, so hopefully we can get it back up and running. :) Though she might be super-busy with her new book that's out...

Katherine Marple Hi Jen! Just wondering if you know anything about the Pay It Forward group and if it's still in use? I haven't seen any new pick-of-the-monthes since... I think August? Just curious. Thanks!

Sherrida Woodley Thanks for noting Quick Fall as a "pick." I'm so glad to have found this site--and to have connected with you. Your book sounds interesting--the description makes me think (in a way) of Pack of Two which is one of my favs. I'll be in touch, and you too.

Katherine Marple Hi Jen! Just checking in to see how you're doing! I was MIA here for a while. Are you still a part of the PIF book group here? I've totally slipped off the face of that planet for the past few weeks. Last book I read in that group was Charlie Courtland's. Did you end up finishing that one?

message 16: by Jess

Jess Scott Nice to meet you too :) I reply really slowly -- so many things to do, so little time...hell yeah to Vladimir Nabokov :P!

message 15: by Anna

Anna Thanks! :)

Katherine Marple haha. Glad to hear things are easier for you then! I had a marvelous weekend. Was sad to see it end! But my entire month of June is packed full of fun. Hope yours is as well!

I'm still reading "Dandelions". :) I can't believe that I haven't finished it yet. I still need to read the book of the month! I'm not usually this far behind on reading, but I just haven't had time lately! I saw your review of "Dandelions". I have about 80 pages left to go and I totally agree with your thoughts on it.

Katherine Marple Did you end up moving? Or are you still packing? :) I'm settled in now. Now to get back into the game of reading. I'm reading "Dandelions in the Garden" now. I love the story. Have about 200 more pages to go which I intend on reading this evening.

message 12: by Mystee

Mystee Thanks for the friends :D

Katherine Marple Thanks for the awesome review of Okay! I have been kind of out of it on this site lately, but I'm trying to get back in. I moved to a new place and have been living and breathing paint to make it a "home." :)

message 10: by Jaree

Jaree Francis Thanks for the kind words + I wish you much success =)

Katherine Marple I saw you marked "Dusty Waters" to-read. Do it. It was a really good story. Not like horror "ghost story", but... it was good.

Katherine Marple yay! I hope you love it! :)

message 7: by Katherine (last edited Apr 13, 2010 11:55AM)

Katherine Marple I thought it was VERY funny. :)
(the double entendre)

Katherine Marple I like the new coloring of your profile pic. I can see more of your face! :)

If you HAVEN'T bought any of my books yet, I think "Okay" would be a good first read. Only because my favorite story is "Wretched" but it is currently in the making of its 2nd edition. I'm just waiting on the proof (which should be here any day now!) and when I approve it, the 2nd edition will be ready for sale.

If you HAVE bought my books already (thank you) and I would read "Wretched".

You might relate to "Test" a lot (it was my first work) but it isn't my favorite. Though the stripper scene in "Test" actually resembles the same in "MC". I laughed at how closely they resembled each other.

So... I hope that helps!

And you've very welcome for the review. It was a great read.

A lot of people say they feel like they "know me" after reading my books. My books are fiction, and aren't even about me, but since I write in the "narrative" and don't name my main character, they think "Katherine" is the voice. haha.

I can't wait to hear what you think.

message 5: by Jen

Jen Knox Katherine wrote: "Sorry it wasn't very in depth of a review (as mine usually are) but I'm just not really being able to focus today- but I still wanted to let you know that I loved your book."

Your review was beautiful, and I appreciate the reading, and the attention... to women sharing our stories with the world--I look forward to reading your works. Jen

Katherine Marple I left a review for Musical Chairs on GoodReads discussion and the book page. Also on Amazon. Good job! I'm glad you've pulled through and decided to share your story.

Nurture Your BOOKS™ - Bobbie Crawford Hi Jen,

Thanks so much for the friendship! :-)

Katherine Marple omg I just noticed your "influenecs" listed at the top of your profile. I LOVE the Golden Girls! I watch them every single day! I have the full series on DVD and have been watching them so much that it's almost time for me to go out and buy a back up set else they won't play in my DVD player anymore. Every single day. Swear it's the truth!
Awesome. :)

Stuart Hello, my dear friend. I hope life is treating you well. Thank you for recommending my book, (as you know) Musical Chairs is one of my - all time - favourite books!

Stay well and happy, Stuart :-)
