From book jacket I felt this book is going to be “a story of reader chasing for the missing chapters of the book which he newly bought”
And when I finished fourth or fifth chapter I felt , this might be written on “HYPERLINK” structure (a individual stories will get connected at the end of the book) but it’s not…
It’s a story about art of reading and writing….it’s a book of genius. This book takes us “The Reader” into a quest circling the world from book to book and destination being:
““What harbor can receive you more securely than a great library?”
Amazing, brilliant, breathtaking…
“Do you believe that every story must have a beginning and an end?
Then go forward and read it…this book will certainly change your perception… ...more

"Among other things, you'll find that you're not the first person who was ever confused and frightened and even sickened by human behavior. You're by no means alone on that score, you'll be excited and stimulated to know. Many, many men have been just as troubled morally and spiritually as you are right now. Happily, some of them kept records of their troubles. You'll learn from them—if you want to. Just as someday, if you have something to offer, someone will learn something from you. It's a beautiful reciprocal arrangement. And it isn't education. It's history. It's poetry.”

Do we have our own thoughts or idea? Who started it first? We can say that we are nourished by parents, teachers, friends, society etc, but on the other hand it’s really a "chicken or egg" paradox, and we are in quantum catch-22 , we cannot even say from where the original idea popped up.
The fountainhead presents idea of Objectivism and Collectivism , out of which my favorite was discussion of creativity and being realistic and not being “Second Hander”.
I wanted to call “The Fountainhead” as great book on account of the first class ideas which it presents but its really first class set of ideas smudged in a soap opera kind of storyline which will test your patience…
At times you feel principal characters are unrealistic but that is the core idea which is presented in this book, when an individual starts portraying himself / herself with their unique nature of their own people around them hates them or feel unrealistic.
The noblest concept on earth is equality of human race but to attain this equality its not rebel or revolution which you need to take-up , firstly it’s your originality which you need to carry forward before any rebel or revolution.

I domicile in a village which is close to Tamil Nadu border, I can speak Tamil very fluently but I am not that good in reading Tamil. For ages I have I domicile in a village which is close to Tamil Nadu border, I can speak Tamil very fluently but I am not that good in reading Tamil. For ages I have been looking for English translation of Kalki Krishnamurthy’s Ponniyin Selvan in full set but I was not able to procure all the set (Five Parts in six books), so this was in long pending “To Read” list and finally I got it now , that too two books translated by Pavithra Srinivasan and four books by Subhalakshmi Narayanan. Both of them has done decent jobs , Pavithra Srinivasan looks little superior to Subhalakshmi's transalation, only issue is her translation of last two parts are still pending for publication.
Ponniyin Selvan one of the most celebrated novels in Tamil literature, which was serialized during 1950 to 1954 for in weekly editions of Kalki magazine. No need for introduction; Ponniyin Selvan is a historical fiction based on the Chola Dynasty, especially around the assassination of Aditha Karikalan the Chola prince who defeated the Pandya king Veerapandyan at the battle of Chevur. He killed Veerapandyan after chasing him on the banks of Vaigai river.
Kalki Krishnamurthy had done his research very meticulously in visiting historical places and reading stone & copper-plate inscription , palm leaf manuscripts etc when Google and Wikipedia were not invented and has developed a plot which keeps the readers entertained and educated on the various aspects of tradition and culture especially on worships, festivals , music, poetry , dance etc.
You have all the elements from romance , espionage , assignation squads etc.
In the emerging era of cinema Kalki had deployed the cinematic style of narration which is really brilliant and which makes the plot gripping and the interesting fact is pace of the plot is at snail pace but it will never bother the readers , that’s where Kalki is proving he is best in his narration. He never stick to a single mode of narration , flash backs , hyperlink kind of narration , multiple characters, twists and turns which we will never forget. Especially the fictional character which are planted makes the plot even better.
I am just thinking how people in 1950‘s would have waited for each weekly edition of Kalki magazine.
Hope, someday I will read Ponniyin Selvan in Tamil itself.

“The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles.”
When we look at the class struggle in our world , we can have two segregation that is a group who hunts and the other group which will get hunted or being hunted (ruling and oppressed). If we discuss it will be from the evolution, hunger for power , slavery, colonialization, capitalism etc. From the day of inception the game of hunter and hunted exist and in passage of time our human intelligence got implanted with the idea of betrayal and the hunters instigated crowd which was being hunted with the idea of betrayal and made the world with the foul crowd of backstabber and betrayed.
When we say hunter, does he/she goes informing to their prey and hunt. No hunting is a process where hunter tracks his prey , traps and kills.
"The bourgeoisie has stripped of its halo every occupation hitherto honoured and looked up to with reverent awe. It has converted the physician, the lawyer, the priest, the poet, the man of science, into its paid wage labourers.
The bourgeoisie has torn away from the family its sentimental veil, and has reduced the family relation to a mere money relation.”
People in current times quote “World is commercialized.” This is not new, world is commercialized from the time human race got the taste of power and wealth.
“…..only by the forcible overthrow of all existing social condition. Let the ruling classes tremble at a Communistic revolution. The proletarians have nothing to lose but their chains. They have a world to win. Workingmen of all countries unite!”
Forcible overthrow will be an utopia, till the time 90% of the global wealth is concentrated just within in 10% of the world population. But this manifesto is now sleeping in every individual who remain silent in thoughts of their near poverty situation. (An individual who doesn’t have additional income source other than salary is in near poverty situation.)
