MaryAnne has been named the guardian of their only son, Joey. So MaryAnne travels to the Wilkenson’s ranch home in Sugarloaf, Idaho, with her two young children (Logan and Alison) and her husband, Alan. MaryAnne is having trouble with Joey, who goes out a lot at night in the forest. Then, some campers are brutally murdered. Sometimes MaryAnne feels like they are being watched. Should she stay at the ranch or go back home? This story was interesting and captivating at times, but I just didn’t enjoy this book as much as other books I’ve read by this author. I found Joey to be an unlikable and annoying character and I didn’t really like his backstory with the mountain man, etc. A so-so read....more

His father is accused of the mother’s murder and goes to prison. Marcus believes his dad killed her. Some years later Marcus falls for a girl and brings her home. After a night of passion, the girl gets up from the bed in the dark and the Ankle Snatcher gets her. Now Marcus believes the story his father told him. I didn’t find this story scary at all, and I found the main character to be a bit weak and wimpy. I enjoyed the other books in the Amazon Creature Feature series much more....more

Three years later, Amanda’s eighteen-year-old sister Brenda, who, after all these years, wants some answers, goes looking for Amanda herself. There is a myth/legend about a wooden bridge in the forest owned by a hoofed, faceless creature named Opso who is always near the bridge. Whenever people go missing in the forest, it is said that Opso abducted them and wants to use their face. What will Brenda find in the forest? Will she finally find out what happened to Amanda? Is the tale of Opso true?
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a totally creepy and captivating read. It was quite unusual and I couldn’t wait to find out what was going to happen. The setting in the deserted woods was spooky. This was a fast, short story. I look forward to reading more from this author....more

They eventually decide to leave their Brooklyn home, to get away from old memories. They move to a farmhouse in Hobomeck, Maine. While shopping in town one day the store owner gives Willy a pram to push his many purchases home. The pram is dirty and smelly, but Willy uses it anyway, it’s better than carrying his purchases on the long walk home. While pushing the pram through the eerie forest, he thinks he hears a baby’s cry. It seems like a baby is in the pram. Days later, Willy’s wife discovers the pram in the shed behind their house and wants to get rid of it. But Willy refuses. It seems that he has become attached to the pram… This was a captivating, strange, and unusual story. It had some very creepy moments, especially with the pram and the baby. The book also had good atmosphere. An entertaining and scary read by Joe Hill....more

Her children, (sixteen-year-old Julie and nine-year-old Molly) and other children, get stung by bees, with severe reactions that seem to change some of them. Especially Julie. A shady scientist (Carl Henderson) gives them shots (an antivenin) that the children say make them feel better, but they don’t. Why are the children lying, and suddenly disappearing? What is Carl up to in his isolated home? Where are all the bees coming from? There is a lot more to this book, but I don’t want to give anything away. I really enjoyed it. It was very strange and creepy, especially with the bees, ants, and other insects. I really hated some of the characters and I couldn’t wait for them to get what was coming to them. Charlene gets unchained over twenty years later by a couple of unsuspecting young boys (one is Daniels’s son) who find her dead skeleton in the river where it was hidden, and Charlene rises and begins her reign of terror and revenge with a very sharp knife. A totally creepy read with some pretty scary moments, especially with her skeleton wandering around in the shadows, in the dark, at night, around the river and the ranch house where she used to live and where Daniel’s family is currently staying. This was another great horror read by Ruby Jean Jensen with an interesting cast of characters, really great atmosphere, and some spooky and tense situations....more

Ted is an alcoholic who was just fired from his job so this seems like a fresh beginning for them. But the house has a legacy of evil that, at first, they try to overlook. But as time goes by, and strange things start happening, along with the total change of behavior in their son Jared, they realize they were wrong in moving here.
I totally enjoyed this book. It was a very creepy, chilling, and captivating read. The house itself was quite eerie, with descriptions of long gloomy halls, darkness outside the windows that goes on and on, a dank and spooky cellar, and people having horrifying dreams (or are they) within the house. The story was easy to read and I was always looking forward to getting back to the book to see what was going to happen next.

I enjoyed this book even though it was slow and talky at times. The story took place in the late 1960’s and the era was described quite well. I liked the eerie feelings in the house, the cold in certain parts of the rooms, the apparitions. I was curious to see how everything would turn out in the end.

John Avery has spent the last seven years looking for his missing girlfriend, Michelle. (Michelle went on a skiing holiday with some friends and they were never seen again.) Now John is contacted by the police. A ranger has found a videotape machine with a video in it in the wilderness, and on it is a message from Michelle. This prompts the sheriff to form a search party. The party goes into the snowy wilderness in search for some answers. But they discover something more terrifying than they would have imagined…
This was a very eerie and tense read. It had great atmosphere… the snow, the cold, the wind, the isolation, and the characters not knowing what is out there. I didn’t like how the story ended, though. This book can be read as a stand-alone, but it is better to read with the previous one, “Snowblind”, which I enjoyed a bit more....more

He is extremely intelligent and he keeps skipping ahead grades in school. The kids don’t like him because he’s too smart. Josh is younger than his other classmates and they pick fights with him and they think the teachers favor him. Josh’s mother (Brenda) is barely getting by. Her no-good husband has left and she has another kid to feed (Melinda, Josh’s baby sister). After Brenda gets called in to talk to the principal about Josh getting into another fight at school, the principal suggests a school that would be interested in Josh, the Barrington Academy, a cliff-top mansion overlooking the pacific coast. Eventually Brenda gives it some serious thought and takes Josh there to check it out. Josh finally feels like he fits in and decides to stay. But what about strange Dr. Engersol and his weird experiments. And some people at the school aren’t what they seem. As time goes by, many people are turning up dead…
I really enjoyed this book. As the story progressed, and I found out what the experiments were all about, it was quite creepy. I liked some characters, like Josh, his young friend Amy, and their English teacher Mr. Connors. Then there were some annoying and evil characters that I hoped would eventually get what they deserved. The story had good atmosphere, especially the Academy, with its creaky old elevators, secret basement rooms, etc… I found myself quickly turning the pages to see what was going to happen next.

This was an extremely enjoyable thriller, and I had a hard time putting it down. I loved the setting, in a very large museum, with tons of dark creepy rooms filled with rare artifacts, dinosaur bones, and lots of winding tunnels running underneath. I really liked some of the characters, like Pendergast, Margo, Dr. Frock, and Lieutenant D’Agosta. Some characters were annoying and I looked forward to them getting bumped off. The creature was quite horrible and scary.
