Christine asked Nancy Lawrence:

Is there any chance you are still working on a sequel to Mary & The Captain? I have just done a long overdue review and remembered how frustrated I was when, after her unhappiness throughout the story, we were not going to actually see her happy and beloved. Also (and against the tide of almost everyone else) I though Caroline escaped the consequences of her actions far too easily, in fact she got clean away.

Nancy Lawrence Hello, Ann! Thank you for reading my book and taking the time to write a review; I appreciate it so much. And I really like the points you made. My favorite kinds of stories are ones where the characters grow and learn something about themselves that absolutely has to change in order for them to be happy in life. In Mary and the Captain Caroline tiptoed right up to the line of doing that, but--as you said--she didn't deal with any consequences of her behavior. I did write a sequel that focuses on Robert and Mary's wedding, and the conclusion of Caroline's story. I haven't published it because I'm not entirely happy with the Caroline part of the story, and I have some plot points that need to be resolved. But you've reminded me that I need to get back to work and get that book finished! Thanks again for your message, Ann. All my best to you!
