ANI: MMA deletions

An issue you are involved with is being discussed on WP:ANI. See WP:ANI#Off-wiki canvassing (MMA). —Tom Morris (talk) 21:47, 6 December 2012 (UTC)

If you could be so kind

Please kindly fuck off and leave the UFC articles alone. You can spend your time far more productively, such as watching re-runs of America's Next Top Model.

Stop taking your Aspergers fueled rageouts out on UFC Wikipedia articles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.76.160.22 (talk) 01:25, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

Ignoring RfCs

MMA Guidance

MTKing please consider: - MMA articles should reflect realities of the sport instead of housekeeping rules of Wikipedia. This, I believe, would reflect the goal of Wikipedia to be an encyclopedia that reflects and documents a subject fairly. - Future events should have an article to allow the development of the event background. Perceptions that help build an events notability can only occur if a proper background is created. For example, Junior Dos Santos knockout of Cain V was a turning point for boxing in the Heavyweight division against the previously dominant wrestlers. Information about favorites, betting odds, and recent past fighter histories could provide greater depth of each event and contrast the actual results. - MMA revolves around the individual athletes. Championships are not as important as the rankings/ relative standings determined by recent and overall results of an individual. For example, Timelines can be established inside fighter pages. Promotional timelines should not be more than one page, if the page exists, and as a link between event pages. - Event notability should be determined by matches that involve two fighters with 6 or more professional fights. Most fighters do not have more than 20 fights and even the best of the crop have less than 40. Also the most fights that commonly happen in a year is 4 and can be as low as 1 with the norms being 2-3. Events then become much more important considering the athletes versus other sports that may be involved in 20 up to 100+ games per year. Each fight is rare and a pivotal moment in an athletes career. - Event pages, fighter pages, and promotional pages can completely catalog this subject given that all links are present. By creating assemblies of these pages result in a convoluted subject that does not have clear boundaries. This is why questions of # of events on one page are surfacing. The assemblies are also edited more often due to the pages development cycle being extended. The assemblies also dilute the subject material resulting in editors asking why are these events important. Allowing the event pages to be created in advance and independent of editors is one of the goals of Wikipedia being a user driven encyclopedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.168.140.188 (talk) 04:35, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Reflect on this

Yikes!

Woops sorry about that. Guess im not in the loop of things. It wont happen again. --Imhungry4444 (talk) 04:12, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

Eelpout Festival

dude why would you put that flag on it?? 10,000 people attending it for 33 years straight, its been on Jay Leno and its probably one of the most interesting/unique events anyone could attend. Notability and popularity are two different things, I simply believe your subjective interpretation of the notability criteria may be lacking.Topgunner (talk) 05:02, 16 December 2012 (UTC)

KIng of the Streets

Hi. Since you seem to have great insight to this place could you take a glance st WFA:_King_of_the_Streets and tell me how it stacks of if it were to be proposed for deletion or moved to an omnibus thing? It seems like the press gave it decent coverage. The Adande and Portland Tribune pieces are great. I didn't know Loretta hunt was doing reporting this early either. I didn't realize Kampmann was on this card either. That was a great find tho about how it mentions him fighting in the ufc shortly after the fight. I also count 6 ufc/wec title holders,tv personality and Strikeforce title contender Mayhem miller, and olympic silver medalist and ufc title contender matt lindland. I also think the Eddie Goldman article mentioning it as a major card is significant. If you view Goldmans work history you can see he is an authority on MMA.PortlandOregon97217 (talk) 10:18, 16 December 2012 (UTC)

Flags

How are the flags on UFC on Fox: Henderson vs. Diaz in violation of MOS:Flags? The UFC uses flags. Why do they need to be removed? JonnyBonesJones (talk) 22:49, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

I was asking MTKing for his input, not you. So if we remove the table, then flags are ok? Gotcha. And that doesnt explain why the flags were removed from the bonuses section.JonnyBonesJones (talk) 23:53, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
And also, flags are allowed to be in results tables because the UFC has always been a competition between countries, and that is why they have always shown flags in the tale of the tape, or country name in the very early UFC days. JonnyBonesJones (talk) 00:39, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
(talk page stalker)Welcome to the collaborative project. The flags are not ok whether or not the table is there. --Nouniquenames 03:47, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
Where did it say that? I read that it's ok as long as it's a competition between countries, which is what the UFC is. JonnyBonesJones (talk) 07:43, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
This is a joke... SiMntjMMA (talk) 19:23, 16 December 2012 (UTC)

MMA Event Notability

You are invited to join the discussion at WT:MMA#MMA_Event_Notability. Kevlar (talk) 18:59, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

can you take a look at v3.2 on my User:Kevlar/sandbox before i post it to wt:mma? i wasn't really that happy with the wording when i posted it last night. do you feel that my 3.2 is a better re-wording? if not i can work on it some more. Kevlar (talk) 19:46, 16 December 2012 (UTC)
never mind, now i don't like my own rewrite... i think i'm getting close though. i'll let you know when i think it's ready. sorry. Kevlar (talk) 22:33, 16 December 2012 (UTC)
i think i've got it. my User:Kevlar/sandbox has what i think best lays out that last bullet points and i use UFC 94 in both examples. this could be "the version". let me know what you think, i'm not going to make changes until i hear from you if this version like v3.1 gets your support. Kevlar (talk) 00:28, 17 December 2012 (UTC)
kept your changes, and added a blurb on WP:CONTINUEDCOVERAGE. unless you can see anything else i think i'm ready to post it to WT:MMA as "Version 4 - possibly ready for RfC". Kevlar (talk)
Tinkered with the opening of the sentence, hope you don't mind , please revert if you do. Mtking (edits) 02:10, 17 December 2012 (UTC)
ahh, nice addition. Kevlar (talk) 02:17, 17 December 2012 (UTC)

Repost of 2012 in UFC

A tag has been placed on 2012 in UFC requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia, because it appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion process. If you can indicate how it is different from the previously posted material, contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this: which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's discussion directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Administrators will consider your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. If you believe the original discussion was unjustified, please contact the administrator who deleted the page or use deletion review instead of recreating the page. Thank you. 2012 in UFC

A subsequent AfD, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of UFC events in 2012, suggests that separate summary articles by year are not desired. If circumstances have changed, a DRV should be called to reassess the situation. Deryck C. 15:23, 17 December 2012 (UTC)

An idea, in the name of peace and MMA on wikpedia

Why create an omnibus separating the free events by type. Like UFC on Fox, UFC on FX, UFC on FUEL TV, and so on. And for PPV numbers we also have UFC 1-10, UFC 10-20 and so on in incrimants of 10? We can also made an omnibus page for the TUF Finales. But they must be AS detailed as the stand alone articles. And very notable events like UFC 94 and UFC 148 must have their own page. Also needs to be updated and have NO spelling or grammatical errors. Can this be an idea to stop the madness over MMA on wikipedia? JonnyBonesJones (talk) 08:32, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

That RfC only applies to results tables, not the UFC Roster List page.

So yes I undid the edit, and you also recklessly removed Shane Carwins name off the list. Be more careful please. JonnyBonesJones (talk) 03:12, 22 December 2012 (UTC)

Merry Christmas!

--LlamaAl (talk) 08:01, 22 December 2012 (UTC)

I'll send him some coal. lol. JonnyBonesJones (talk) 09:59, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

So let me get this straight.

Qwyrxian has allowed me to remove flags off the Formula One page because it violates MOS:FLAG. I get accused of being pointy. And then when you remove flags off an MMA page. Thats not pointy, thats perfectly ok even though you invoke a RfC that clearly says "RESULTS TABLES". LOL what? JonnyBonesJones (talk) 10:02, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

A question

Every time I see you edit something, you're always deleting it or proposing/endorsing deletion of it. Just wondering, can you name some things you've actually created? Because it seems like all you do is destroy. 174.70.132.164 (talk) 13:19, 18 December 2012 (UTC)

FYI: I'm pretty sure this comment has something to do with this. http://www.sherdog.net/forums/f2/wiki-deleted-ufc-155-event-2257217/index4.html. Please don't get mad at the messenger, just happened to be reading through some stuff on Sherdogg and saw it. I don't have anything to do with this comment or this Sherdogg thread, just thought you might want to know. Willdawg111 (talk) 01:46, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

Everyone is just mad because he has the rules behind him. I don't think any wiki big wigs could care less because the more fighter/fight related stuff that is deleted the more room it frees up on their servers. Plus the sherdog/Mixedmartialarts fight databses work great. PortlandOregon97217 (talk) 04:42, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

Whack!

You've been whacked with a wet trout.

Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly.

The fact that nobody else, apart from yourself, in the discussion felt that the nature of the sources were a problem. In this case, the sources presented from multiple real life newspapers from different countries that specifically cover the event are good enough. Lankiveil (speak to me) 05:24, 29 December 2012 (UTC).

Okay, one user. Doesn't change the fact that there was clearly not a consensus that the page did not meet the policy requirements. You're of course entitled to your opinion, but I don't think you're correct. Lankiveil (speak to me) 05:48, 29 December 2012 (UTC).

The main card matches of the UFC in most cases are equivalent to final eight in any championship tournaments in any sport. The "undercard" and other promotion's non title fights are almost non-notable but not quite. The argument that UFC numbered events are routine and not notable but other more uniquely named events are makes no sense if and only if you have no knowledge of the sport. I do believe it is Wiki policy that knowledgeable editors should contribute to an article's development and improvements. If you wish only to build up your Wiki account then I suggest you find some less notable articles and subjects to mess with. 173.168.140.188 (talk) 05:59, 29 December 2012 (UTC)
