Israel and its neighbors

[edit]

Some editor refuses to acknowledge that Landau didn't single out Israel, but rather according to the NYSun he "pleaded with Secretary of State Rice to 'rape' Israel and its neighbors into resolving their problems." (from here: http://www.nysun.com/article/68612 ) Many who want the occupation to end and for the Jewish nature of Israel to be preserved without having to resort to an apartheid system in an Israeli West Bank, do want drastic action. The longer the occupation goes on and the more the settlements expand, the more likely a one-state solution is, a solution that will destroy the Jewish nature of Israel. It is thus necessary to deal accurately with Landau's statement and not to distort it into a form that is more easily attacked as that is nothing more than dishonestly creating a strawman. Those who want to preserve the Jewish nature of Israel by accomidating a Palestinian state are more courageous Zionists that those who advocate for the settlements and permanent war. --70.48.240.9 (talk) 23:12, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is you that created the Strawman

[edit]

Landau to the Jewish Week: 'I did say that in general, Israel wants to be raped — I did use that word — by the U.S., and I myself have long felt Israel needed more vigorous U.S. intervention in the affairs of the Middle East....I told [Rice] that it had always been my wet dream to address the secretary of state' on these vital matters." Your link to the NY SUn article reveals you are not correct in your claims. This time around Landau specifically referred to raping Israel: "Rape it into resolving the problem." The comments made about "putting the squeeze" on Israel and its neighbors were made in the 1970's, when Landau was working for the Jerusalem Post. It's all in the link you provided. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.68.95.65 (talk) 19:47, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Don't try to salvage sense from these nonsensical statements. They reveal a serious lack of objectivity. Using words like rape and wet dream to describe a relationship between countries shows that this guy is out of his depth. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.68.95.65 (talk) 19:42, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
