Moving this section?

[edit]

I suggesting removing this entry and linking Asian dust to mineral dust; the mineral dust article already incorporates the important points of the Asian dust article. Waiting for feedback. Marenco 08:55, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure that's a good idea. Although mineral dust is an impressive article with lots of room to grow, it would seem best for that article to cover the general phenomenon of mineral dust and its effects on health and the environment... Methinks that article should deal with particular dust phenomena only in summary style, leaving the details for other articles. There is more than enough encyclopedic information out there about Asian dust, and no doubt about Sahara dust as well, to easily fill a full-length article (or several). -- Visviva 09:45, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, then leaving Asian dust where it is. I will shorten in Mineral dust the details repeated from Asian dust. Marenco 15:59, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is a natural disaster caused by human's development and desire to further improve lifestyle. I am not saying it's wrong to desire comfort and convenience; but I just hope, people should leave space and respect to our nature and stop picking on those things which could damage us.

"In the last decade or so, it has become a serious problem due to industrial pollutants (previously not a threat)" What does this mean? I think industrial pollutants have always been a problem. Are we saying the dust contains industrial pollutants or that the pollutants are increasing desertification? --Gbleem 23:43, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I changed words around so it should now look better. --Revth (talk) 04:47, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Illustration

[edit]

We could probably move a shitload of images from the JP Wiki that are already onto Commons to this article; more images would dramatically improve the quality of the article. Images can explain things much easier than text.

Picture

[edit]

According to the text ("Dust deposition in Beijing during the 2006 season.") the picture should be from 2006. But how is it possible that one can see badges from 2007 and 2008 in the window? 79.255.69.108 (talk) 17:51, 8 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

They're permits which expire in 2007 and 2008. --benlisquareTCE 05:38, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Cause section needs update

[edit]

I'm far from an expert on this topic, but it seems to me that the Cause section overemphasizes anthrhopogenic factors and, more notably, fails to account for demographic developments in China (where a majority of Asian Dust comes from, as per the image on ja:黄砂) over the past several decades. Given the country's modernization and declining fertility rate, the narrative presented here no longer holds true for it; it may still hold true for Kazakhstan and Mongolia, but it's hard to know for certain without any citations. This being the case, it would be sweet if anyone more knowledgeable about this topic than myself could take the time to rewrite this section. -- ErrorDestroyer (talk) 10:43, 22 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
