Synopsis for "Midnighter's Tale"

After the Authority's defeat in the arena of Warworld, Midnighter teleports away and materialises inside a Warzoon who is about to kill Byla, the Phaelosian storyteller who taught Thao-La and her friends. Later, he tracks down a bloodpriest called Thargil of Bog and tortures him for Apollo's location. He also breaks a slave's chain and tells her that the chain is a tool Mongul uses to control them rather than an accomplishment. This inspires her and others to rise up.

Later still, Midnighter and a squad of rebels ambush some Warzoons and interrogate a veteran named Tsugren, who helped design the Star Forge where Apollo is being held. He forces Tsugren to tell him how to free Apollo, despite warnings that removing Apollo would destroy the planet. Midnighter and his troops return to their headquarters in the Necropolis, and he sends a message to Steel telling him what he is planning. Byla warns him that he doesn't have enough people and that if he destroys a star forge he'll kill thousands of innocents, but Midnighter does not care, saying he just wants to get him and the Authority off Warworld.

One of Midnighter's rebels tells him that a squad of berserkers is headed to the arena to kill the Phaelosians, and that OMAC has joined them. Midnighter admits that he doesn't have enough time to free Apollo before the berserkers reach the arena, and without Apollo they can't stop them. Fortunately Superman, with his powers restored, arrives and tells him to gather his forces. They lead the rebels to the arena and charge at the berserkers.
