‘The Killer’
I wouldn’t call The Killer—which began streaming on Netflix on Friday—David Fincher’s best ever, but it’s still a very good movie. Though it’s a thriller about a trained assassin, it’s almost a quiet film. If not quiet, at least subtle. Most of the film’s “dialogue” is not conversations between characters, but an internal monologue shared via voiceover. Michael Fassbender is perfect for the role of an unnamed contract killer who messes up big-time on the job. Pay attention to the difference between what Fassbender is thinking and what his character actually does. The Killer is a clever, at times laugh-out-loud funny commentary on a character who’s not nearly as calm, cool, and collected as he thinks he is.
