‘John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in LA’
Netflix Is A Joke fest wrapped up last week, and among the new specials, roasts, and more that premiered on the service is John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in LA, which aired live six times over an eight-day period and is still available to stream. Everybody’s in LA is an unpredictable talk show hosted by Mulaney that deals with one Los Angeles-centric topic per episode (earthquakes, helicopters, and palm trees among them). Each episode features panels of guests that range from stand up comedians like Jerry Seinfeld and late-night hosts like Jon Stewart, to experts in the episode topics like helicopter journalist Zoey Tur and seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones. There are also musical performances, pre-taped sketches, and field pieces shot around Los Angeles. Everybody’s in LA is delightfully strange in all of the best ways (I didn’t know I needed Waingro from Heat doing a stand up set until I had it) and a great case for why Mulaney should keep making weird art, rather than only doing traditional stand-up.
