‘Cruella’
Look, does Cruella actually make sense as an origin story prequel for the villain in 101 Dalmatians who skins puppies? Absolutely not. But is it enjoyable to watch Emma Stone absolutely stomp around in combat boots and sparkly red lipstick to the tune of popular ’70s rock songs? Absolutely! The thing is, Cruella knows that it’s silly. Thankfully, director Craig Gillespie embraces the camp, the results are pure fun. If you want to have a good time, let go of your preconceived notions of Cruella de Vil. Just enjoy Emma Stone’s talent for playing an unhinged baddie, and how fabulous she looks in those costumes.
