This Underrated SoCal Airport Will Offer Flights to Wine Country for Less than $100

Getting to Sonoma from SoCal just got a lot easier.

Anyone who’s flown through Southern California can agree on one thing: LAX is one of the worst airports known to man. And it only continues to maintain its bad reputation as other airports in the region step up their game—Ontario International Airport in Ontario, California, for example, just announced they will start offering exclusive nonstop flights to Northern California’s wine country starting October 10.

Ontario Airport is one of the fastest growing airports in the United States, expected to to service over seven million passengers this year, the most it’s had since the 1990s. Ultra-low cost Avelo Airlines will be offering the new flights, adding to the San Bernardino County airport’s roster of airlines, which includes Delta, Alaska, and JetBlue. Currently, Avelo only offers nonstop flights to Sonoma from Hollywood Burbank Airport and Palm Springs International Airport.

The flights, operating twice weekly on Thursdays and Sundays, will go to and from the Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport in Sonoma County, the largest wine producer in the region, boasting more than 425 wineries, 55 miles of beaches, and lush forests full of redwoods. Sonoma County includes a myriad of charming, pastoral towns for every type of traveler, like the queer haven Guerneville, luxurious Healdsburg, and buzzing Santa Rosa. Plus, if you’re not into wine, you can instead embark on nearby Oakland’s Cannabis Trail.
