If you have binged Netflix’s latest star-studded show The Perfect Couple, then you know that Nicole Kidman and Liev Schreiber star as the powerful and utterly sophisticated couple Greer and Tag. And while the drama unfolds on all sides of their Nantucket family, the chemistry between these longtime friends is undeniable onscreen.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, it seems Kidman knew Schreiber was the one for the part, even if it took a little insisting. “Oh, I had to beg him to marry me,” she told the outlet.

But, before her non-stop calls to Schreiber, Kidman checked in with his ex-partner Naomi Watts, who just happens to be one of Kidman’s best friends. “I heard a story that you asked Naomi first if it was okay,” Schreiber said. “Of course!” Kidman answered.
“Isn’t that amazing?” Schreiber said of the gesture. “That’s how close they are.”
As a reminder, Watts and Schreiber dated for many years between 2005 and 2016 and share two children, Sasha, 17, and Kai, 15. Since their split, they’ve both gotten remarried. Watts married fellow actor Billy Crudup in 2023 while Schreiber also tied the knot last year with Taylor Neisen.
In the comments of the interview on social media, fans are praising Kidman for checking in with Watts. After all, while their split was a while ago, making sure Watts was okay with them being onscreen love interests would definitely avoid some tension later on.

“Love how she asked Naomi first! That’s a girl’s girl 🥰” wrote one user. “I guessed she’d have asked Naomi ❤️” wrote another commenter. “Aussie girl and old school code.”
Watts’ approval, of course, only shows how she and Schreiber have managed to go from partners to friends. “I’m pretty proud of us, corny as that may sound,” Watts said of their dynamic to Net-a-Porter in 2019. “We’ve made it our absolute priority to be good and kind to each other and we’re absolutely committed to that.” We love to see it!
