Knowing the calibre of the people in my network I'm sure you all already knew this, but just in case you didn't.... 💡 Did you know you that a Rockwell Automation SLC 5/05 can read/write data to a Compact/ControlLogix? There is a prerequisite: ❓ The SLC 5/05 needs to have FRN 5 or later firmware to support CIP (Common Industrial Protocol) allowing Multihop messages to EtherNet/IP devices such as ControlLogix, CompactLogix, MicroLogix 1100 or MicroLogix 1400 processors. If anyone is interested in the knowledgebase article please let me know. This all came about as I was on site yesterday commissioning a new ControlLogix (1756-L71) for a Aquafilter (Gravity Belt Thickener) and one of the tasks was to get data from the new ControlLogix into an existing SLC 5/05 - previously this was done as a read. I know what you're thinking "Scott, why don't you just get the ControlLogix to write the data into the SLC, that way the SLC doesn't need to read it from the ControlLogix". ❌ But as we all know, it is recommended you use reads, rather than writes, so I looked into what I could do. Hence this little revelation that I thought I'd share.
Bit tight heat calculations done ??
We also knew you shouldn't use ductwork as a shelf, but here we are! 😅
If the Firmware is earlier or you have an SLC 5/04 or SLC 5/03 the reads are still achievable Scott S.
Scott S. Did you also know if upgrading a SLC 500 system to ControlLogix a chasis of the same size will use the same chassis mounting bolts as the ControlLogix chassis is made from the same mold as the SLC 500.
Top work Scott and always a pleasure to see you bud 👍 👌 🙌
Replace the legacy SLC with a Compactlogix processor.
Nice job! Very clean installation
Thanks for sharing
