Sales of previously owned homes in the United States fell sharply in August, despite mortgage rates plummeting that month. But much more housing demand will likely be unleashed onto the market after the Federal Reserve finally cut interest rates. ➡️ Existing home sales, which make up the vast majority of the market, slumped 2.5% in August from the prior month to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 3.86 million, the National Association of Realtors reported. ➡️ Meanwhile, home prices continued to climb last month, with the median price of an existing home rising 3.1% to a record high of $416,700. Once a holdout on using third-party services, Olive Garden is reversing course and will let Uber deliver breadsticks and pasta. ➡️ Darden Restaurants, the chain’s parent company, announced an “exclusive multi-year delivery partnership” with Uber that will begin later this year at a limited number of Olive Garden locations and likely expand nationally to its more than 900 locations next May if the pilot is successful. ➡️ Olive Garden already offers delivery through its website and app, delivered by the restaurant’s employees.
