“Aviv is one of the people that I'd be happy to work with in the future. In the architect's role you're always required to tell people that they are wrong. Aviv managed to do it professionally and pleasantly. His ability to get down to the specifics of many complex systems, understand flaws in the design and suggest better solutions is impressive.”

I wanted to seek the advice of my friends, colleagues and peers regarding AWS EKS. it seems that the default settings are to build it with the API public to the internet. This feels like a very bad Idea to me, but on the plus side, it means my helm charts are very easily deployed by git hub runners. So my question, what do people do regarding EKS API access, and if people keep it private only, how do they then connect from services outside of AWS like GitHub actions? Thanks in advance... ** UPDATE ** Just to close the loop on this, and many thanks for all of your thoughts and suggestions. I've implemented a hosted Github runner inside our VPC which is running perfectly. Thanks :-)

Here's a practical example of how Formal Methods can make code faster: AWS's new proven-correct authorization engine is 65% faster (even at p99.9) than the previous version. https://lnkd.in/gVCdurKh Sean says in the talk "we wouldn't have attempted a lot of optimizations we did without this backing of proof". Formal methods allow us to optimize systems more boldly, by removing the risk that optimizations will affect correctness. They also allow our teams to move faster, with lower risk, by building confidence in correctness early on in the software development process.

JFrog reported its quarterly earnings on Aug 7th. ProntoNLP compared the JFrog earning call transcript to 3 other similar SAAS (DevOps) companies as well as to the average of the software GICS group. ProntoNLP's Aspect based LLM signal gave an early warning for JFrog on May 9th 2024 (their last earning call) when the Aspects score dropped from 0.52 to 0.4. ProntoNLP analyzed the earning call transcripts of these 4 SAAS (DevOps) companies JFrog, Atlassian, Dynatrace and Datadog. As can be seen in the image below the only company that had an increase in the LLM score compared with its score last quarter is Atlassian while JFrog had a much lower LLM score (-16%) compared with their last quarter (Color Legend is at the top part of the image below). The dotted navy blue line shows the average LLM score for each of the last 4 quarters for the whole software GICS group. All these 4 companies are SAAS companies and hence the customer related LLM categories are extremely important. The image below shows that Datadog and Atlassian have extremely high values for Customer Acquisition, Customer Behavior and Customer Retention. ProntoNLP's new LLM Aspects based signal for these companies shows the following trend: JFrog: a huge decline from 0.4 last quarter to 0.08 Atlassian: score stayed the same at 0.43 Dynatrace: slight decline from 0.45 last quarter to 0.42 Datadog : slight decline from 0.47 last quarter to 0.42 Based on the LLM scores in the Customer related categories and the change in the Aspects scores of the 4 software stocks it seems that Atlassian and Datadog are the top picks now and JFrog is at the bottom of the pack. The new comparison feature of ProntoNLP is extremely powerful and can support picking the winners and losers within any GICS group based on the latest #GenerativeAI technologies. ProntoNLP provides via SFTP real time quantitative signals on earning calls, filings, macro and news. The speed at which these models improve is staggering, so is the cost to build them. Only way to keep up is to leverage principles such as AWS Bedrock so you have the flexibility you need to quickly select the model that works best for your task. https://lnkd.in/gNAR63YC https://lnkd.in/g_FtP6e9

Well done #AWS for promptly fixing an S3 billing edge-case! Interesting S3 cost issue in this blog: "How an empty S3 bucket can make your AWS bill explode". In brief: external unauthorised (denied) requests to a new empty S3 bucket were being charged - $1,300 within two days. The author had inadvertently chosen the same bucket name that was the placeholder default configuration in a popular open-source tool! https://lnkd.in/eNEqedR8 That blog was published on 29th April 2024. On 13th May, AWS fixed this problem: "Amazon S3 will no longer charge for several HTTP error codes". https://lnkd.in/eMXuhhu8 To quote that announcement: "bucket owners will never incur request or bandwidth charges for requests that return an HTTP 403 (Access Denied) error response if initiated from outside their individual AWS account or AWS Organization."

Some early next-day thoughts about #DASH2024 in New York City this year: 👌 Logs Workspaces look super promising ☀️ Flex Logs go GA (can't wait for Flex Traces 👀) 💥 On-call (👋 Opsgenie & PagerDuty) 🙈 GitHub is on Datadog (and OpenTelemetry!) 💸 Paypal is on Datadog too! 💜 OpenTelemetry + Datadog are getting closer than ever 🎉 Serverless improvements 🥂 Product Analytics revamp, becoming a proper competitor with products like Amplitude 🤖 Bits AI is being used in more and more products 👏 App Builder (custom UI components you can build yourself into the Datadog UI) is better than ever. 🤯 Live Debugger - merges the concepts of debugging and tracing 🔐 Datadog secures the entire software development cycle My biggest takeaway though is that Datadog is bigger than ever. But they are still developing products at an incredible pace and quality. From a Product perspective, they are hitting the nail on the head over and over again. Datadog releases things as early as possible as "Beta", "Private Beta" etc. This may frustrate users (as early products are immature), but it actually provides incredible opportunities for feedback. A bit of an observation: There are a lot more instances where Datadog goes past this "understanding platform" idea. It's now moving to be able to take action. This can be a slippery slope but I do think in many cases it makes loads of sense. A roundup from Datadog themselves of the keynote:
